  • Many years ago as a college student, I heard Rudolf Serkin perform an all-Beethoven concert at Royce Hall, U.C.L.A. It was a spectacular performance. A couple of ladies sitting behind me commented: "nicht, da Schnabel". How right they were.....

  • One of the truly great pianists of all time.TY Nodame 2006 for posting and TY James for sharing.

  • Beautifully played by a great pianist! Thank you Nodame2006 for the posting! I found it an exciting experience to hear him perform on the concert stage

  • he hammers that intro!! watched it 4 times ;)

  • Behold, "True Greatness"...

  • Where is the 2nd mvt???

    We all want it!!

  • so far in YouTube, this is the best Les Adieux, interpretation.

  • agree!

  • @MrDesperateArtist To many of us, there is just no other "Beethoven" than Rudolf Serkin. One can always have a different opinion, "liking" certain pianist more than others, but there is no question about Serkin's total mastery of the great piano literature really from start to finish. I first heard him play in Ann Arbor, MI in 1971; every season for the next 18 years included finding what venues he was playing that were close enough for me to beg, borrow or steal tickets and attend.Bravo!

  • Great to experience Serkin again. I heard him play this sonata in Paris 25 years ago. He seemed so fragile that you hardly dared to breathe. But what a power!

  • you can tell just from his face that he really loves his music. so much skill and hours of practice in order to give a rich, stunning sound. masses of power, but also delicate and dainty in parts.

  • Yes,indeed,we miss maestros such as Serkin,Arrau,Kempff,I don't even need to mention Richter, and Horowitz and Rubinstein are one of a kind. There are so many professional pianists today, but nobody's even close to 20th century maestros, except Barenbim,a living legend, and one of my favourite pianists,Zimerman.

  • @wolfram6ful

don't forget serkin's star student, licad

  • This is one of my favorite pianist. I've been searching for this on DVD for almost two years now. Is it available on DVD? Where do you get it form. I want this so badly. Please let me know. Thanks God for such great talent Like Rudolf Serkin
