Barry is on another plain when he plays, just awesome, that shows he plays from pure passion for the love of his music. I love his Yamaha APX with the puka.
I love Hapa, as my dad seemed to inadvertently choose them as the soundtrack to my childhood :) also, if it wasn't for Hapa I would have never branched out into slack key tuning. God I love Barry's little intro solo piece...insane!!!
@korie37 I also chose HAPA as the soundtrack for my children's childhoods, in fact, played the first record as the First Thing my son ever heard besides his mother's heartbeat!
I've seen Hapa perform at least 13 times. I've seen them in Maui, Kauai and about 11 or 12 times in Maryland. I enjoy every performance as if it was the first time I saw them. I love seeing them perform over and over again. They are just the greatest entertainers and so, so talented. Love, love, love them.
Just saw them at the Great Park in Irvine over the weekend for free... I usually go to Whittier College to see them perform, so this was a real treat... they performed to close to 4000 people, which was the biggest turn out this summer... they were funnier then I've heard them... and played this song and many others for close to two hours... it was awsome.
I saw Barry at the airport in Maui last Sunday. He use to visit us at the store we worked in at Ala Moana several years ago. It was good to say hello again, very nice man.
HAPA is awesome and Barry is an amazing guitarist! We've seen them several times live and it's always a wonderful experience. Mahalo nui for posting! Regards, Chuck & Deb
Keli'i indeed has regular solo gigs on Kauai. I saw him at Saffron in Princeville in March, 2009. He looks and sounds as wonderful as ever. His lovely wife is teaching hula in Japan for several months and he released a solo CD there, Japan only (I asked). Watch for him stateside, though. He said we just missed him at Gordon Biersch in SF but he will be returning. The power of an ancient tradition and spirituality comes through this man in pure form.
I just saw them last weekend for the second time in a year, and they were wonderful. I'm going to make this a yearly event. I've been playing their CDs over and over in my car.
So much talent. You should have a shelf full of Grammys. Please Barry, keep writing and playing. I would be so sad it you guys no longer made music together.
These guys deserve a Grammy not another Compilation of slack key,Hey Barry that gives me an idea next title: A compilation of original Slack Key songs by HAPA Surely that will give you guys a grammy CAZ Bros you can use this tune just substitute HAPA with The Brothers Cazimero.
just calms me down.
