  • Really nice song.

  • aahhh finaly . i found this

  • best band EVER right here people!

  • Damn... this guys has an incredible range.. truly amazing.

  • great song, but what the fuck does it mean

  • Actually there is meaning to this song...a story of misunderstanding told from three different perspectives. I won't go into any more detail so those who really want to know can find it for themselves.

  • Ahh man, Fair to Midland is my favorite band. This song is awesome.

  • This video is similiar to "The Pot" by Tool

  • You mean the fan-made one. There is no official video for "The Pot"...but yeah, it is pretty similar.

  • Pardon my mistake, I thought it was an official video. It is very beautiful, nonetheless.

  • Yeah i agree. When i first saw it i thought it was official myself.

  • Nice song:D

  • i know right me too

  • this reminds me of last year for some reason...good feelings.

  • this is also why andrew will never explain the lyrics, because they mean absolutely nothing. hell they stole their band name from dwhite yokum after not having a band name before playing a show and having to think of one off the cuff.

  • Regardless...they've done pretty well for themselves for be such a slip-shod band as you explain it.

  • haha yea they went farther than i ever thought they would for sure. too bad rock and roll is dead as fuck.

  • industrial revolution buddy says it in the documentary

  • documentary? industrial revolution? what in the fuck are you talking about?

  • rofl the documentary on their EP. darroh says his big inspiration for lyrics is the industrial revolution. if you dont know what that is you never took 7th grade history :/

  • no, i'm wondering how in the hell anyone could get the industrial revolution out of the lyrics? care to try explaining it?

  • he had to say it was about something didn't he? how would it look if you said, oh it means nothing i just sang words that fit the melody there's no point to even listening to them.

  • cause he didnt thats just retarted hes lyrics are really well written the "We marys had ourselves a ball" was a reference to the girl factory workers at the start of the industral revolution who really liked working at the factories so they had a ball.

  • bwahahaha okay.

did you miss the part where i grew up with these guys in high school, and was one of the first people to ever hear this song after making a demo? i'm telling you exactly what andrew told me.

  • also you need to go read what the industrial revolution was. women were happy working in factories? LOL

  • most of the work done in the start of the industrial revolution was child labor and those people were more or less treated like slaves.

  • Factory conditions were great when they first came out and alot of the childs were girls taken from farms search the lowell girls

  • LOL look up the industrial revolution on wikipedia. factory conditions were great?? HAHAHAHAHA

  • my bad i meant the housing they gave him. but i just thought of something prove that their about nothing and dont make sense..

  • why would they explain them? they sound cool imo. You can say Tool lyrics mean nothing but they actually do (or do not) its all about what you personally make of it

    :)

  • yea i think you missed the point. i was simply saying there isn't some cohesive idea going on with the lyrics in case someone was interested. sure make whatever you want out of it.

all of tool's songs are about anal sex, everyone knows that.

  • i love hooker with a penis great song

  • not sure if it is still up but maynard actually explained a lot of the lyrics on toolshed . down . net

  • i know but still.....were not talking about tool hehe im just making a point about lyric interpetation

    :)

  • it's okay these guys fanbase is probably mostly teenagers anyway so the lyrics really don't matter. if you are okay with a song that relies on trite cliches as its lyrical basis that is your prerogative.

  • That statement's sort of ignorant, dude.

  • i personally know andrew sudderth and cliff campbell, i graduated in the same class they did at sulphur springs texas. this song means nothing. none of their songs mean anything. andrew has maybe read 5 books in his entire life which is why they are all full of stupid cliches and fairytales....

they didnt even have lyrics for 2 years when they started playing this, andrew would just mumble the lyrics and try to modulate his voice.

    there you have it....

  • as you can see from the video that the title "dance of the manatee" is referring to the giant. cause manatee's are called the gentle giant. and thats him. i think thats cause dance of the gentle giant would sound wierd. :P

  • lmao a manatee is a marine mammal look it up haha

  • i know there is no way anyone can believe this but I am sure Andrew still isn't satisfyed with this song or video, and look andrew 5 stars. you rule man

    ja

  • i saw them live once and andrew couldent stop smiling while he was singing the song

it look like he as having a real good time singing it

  • this isn't the real video

  • a friend of mine told me that in an interview or something, the band said that even they don't know exactly what their lyrics are about. they said that they aim to let the listener make up their own stories and theories behind the lyrics. in my mind, that's awesome.

  • they only possible way to know what the lyrics mean is to personaly know darroh

  • i think the whole thing is very subliminal. beyond even their minds can comprehend. i think they wrote this in some kind of sub-concious thought that not many people achieve. maybe manatee is mana tree? who knows but there is definitely something wierd about this song. i say dont be mislead about the video. someone just tried to put something to the song at the record company. ive never done acid but i think i want to just for this song. maybe figure out what these guys are on.

  • artists usually have a big part in making the video. this is the kind of art that they use in a lot of their stuff.

"take a gander, the bigger they are the harder they fall"

  • Comment removed

  • your a dumb ass a manatee is a marine mammal lmao look it up

  • i didnt know who they were till last year when they opend for serj nd i was hooked

  • This whole video looks itchy.

  • I heard this song 2 years ago, and I recorded a piece on my cell phone so I could see if any of my family knew who sang this song. It had driven me crazy, and I drove my family nuts trying to find out who sang this. It has taken me til this very moment to find this song. I soooooo Love this guys voice!!

  • yeah thats about the time i heard them and got hoked 2! but i found them on the radio stations website and have listened to them ever since. sucks your just now getting to find them haha... haave you heard tall tales taste like sour grapes? its another of my favs from them!!!

  • Check out my channel for more awesome fucking fair to midland songs!

  • we Mary's had ourselves a ball, I must admit.

  • neither the video nor the song features manatees, let alone dancing manatees. i feel hoodwinked

  • This music is one of my favorites thanks to my dad this is one of my favorite bands.

  • one of the best songs ive ever hard

  • Wohoo, the video is back!

  • does anybody have the bass tabs for this?i am begging for them i can not find them anywere at all and im having alot of troube making them as i cant get it to sound right.if you can send them to me that would be awesome

    thanks

  • After my bassist gets back from bootcamp I can have him type some up for you.. he can play it pretty flawlessly.

  • alright thanks a ton man,i was beginning to give up on looking.

  • great song!

  • the tuning is different i think it might be in drop C

  • mb dadadd :)

  • anyone know what string the bass is being played on at 0:21 to 0:54?I cant figure out if its A or E.

  • try it in E. But I'm not making any promises. hope it helps! XD

  • thanks alot mate! i tuned it a bit and it sounds almost exactly like the song now.

at first i thought i had to tune the A string to make it sound kind of like the E string

  • no problem!

  • They're not from Vermont. Nothing is from Vermont. Not hard to figure out either. Anything press wise on them always mentions being from Texas or Dallas(close to enough to SS)-neither of which is in Vermont.

The name is a play on words. Fair to Middling-often confused with Midland since most southerners can't annunciate it. Midland is not far from Sulphur Springs-although it's still pretty far from Vermont.

  • i was looking for these guys for about 2 years!

    FINALLY!

  • well shit, they removed my original comment, what a bunch of fascist bastards.

  • God damn, I've been trying to figure out the name of this song for a year since I periodically heard it on the stereo at the gym. This is one hard song to find. (Find the name of, or just find, period.)

  • Me to! Believe it or not i was looking up Dwight Yoakam songs and he has one called fair to midland, and i thought holy shit thats it!

  • completely vacuous goth girls like our music, we must be doing something right.

  • nothing is going on.

grrlattherockshow what a brilliant little girl, music is opinionated but your opinion is wrong lol. looks like mcdonalds has a new manager.

and you're a vampire as well, just brilliant, im sure these guys would be so proud to call you a fan.

  • And you have no capacity for humor, adrenacrumb.

The fact that you went to her profile and did "reasearch" to bash her for her comment kind of makes you look lame, buddy.

  • Haha wow! "Your opinion is wrong" Did you seriously just say that? You have to keep in mind that everything in art, visual or auditory, is subjective. The aesthetic appeal that one work of art,(or song) may be present for one person, but not another. You don't like fair to midland. I understand that; they're not for everybody. But you can't run around with your head up your ass thinking you're right and everybody else is wrong. Then again I shouldn't be looking for rationality on the internet...

  • hilarious you wrote a 6 line response to my use of internet sarcasm. look on the next page of comments, i was mocking someone.

  • also hilarious that you cant count.

  • omg so sorry, 6 lines and then not even half of another. better now?

  • Hey man dont get so defensive, just pointing out that its funny.

  • i've honestly watched this video about a dozen times, i still don't know what in the living fuck is going on.

  • its an acid trip in the central plains... most likely oklahoma lol

  • No, Texas, because they're from Dallas :P

  • melodramaticismbfake: They are from Vermont, dumbass. Maple syrup ring a bell? Anyhoo, there is no fucking Manatee in this video anywhere! This would be artsy to someone dying of dehydration while nursing a snake bite riding a bike in Death Valley. Faggotry at its best.

  • You're a fucking moron. They're from Sulphur Springs, Texas. Leave me the fuck alone if you can't come up with anything better than that

  • I stand corrected. Still did not see a Manatee, though :(

  • Sulphur Springs, Texas is IN Vermont. I guess we're both right. Good catch, though.

  • ummmmm what?

  • They are from Vermont, dumbass. Sulphur Springs, Texas is IN Vermont. Maple syrup ring a bell? Anyhoo, there is no fucking Manatee in this video anywhere! This would be artsy to someone dying of dehydration while nursing a snake bite riding a bike in Death Valley. Faggotry at its best.

  • i still dont get were your coming from with the whole vermont , texas thing

and your an idiot with bad taste's

  • I did not expect a person of your... Ahem... Caliber to "get it". Whats wrong with my taste? Oh yeah, and another thumbs down for you. Go to your room for time out for backtalking me.

  • did you mean theres a Sulphur Springs in Vermont, but then again i didnt expect a person of your Caliber to provide such information

  • Look, don't be such a lazy fuck. I'm not going to do your research for you.

  • idiot........

  • Who let you out of your room? You are grounded!

  • uummmm no, theyre from sulpher springs TEXAS

  • Sulphur Springs, Texas is IN Vermont. I guess we're both right. Good catch, though.

  • sir, music is opinionated, and i appreciate you speaking your mind, but not when your so wrong

  • Awesome song.

  • Damn, the singers got a hell of a range.

  • I've been to a lot of shows. I've heard a lot of vocalists. This guy is a fucking beast on that mic. Best show I have been to in a long time. Other than SYL on the transgression tour.

  • blasphomy!

  • ok the video has completeley lost me

  • XD same here

  • good song

  • One of the best bands I have ever heard! So original and unique. My 2 fave types of music Metal and Alternative! I wish they had more albums!

  • What about the post-hardcore?!?!?!?!

  • Okay. The video scared me. The song left me speechless.

  • one of the most fucked up bands ever!

  • where the hell did the guy on the cliff go at 3:37

  • I am never tired of this song !! I listening it again and again it's incredible .

    watch?v=DdVkZv0H4-4

  • Hey guys, fair to midland is playing a free show on April 23rd in Newburgh, NY to help a family with breast cancer....EVERYONE who lives in New York will be there.

  • i like how he switches his voice in the song. HOLDDDDD NOOOOOO VIRTUEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yeah, he has amazing vocal range

  • haha NOT

  • good vocalist

  • TAKE A GANDER THE BIGGER THEY ARE THE HARDER THEY FALL

    such a sick song

  • BAD ASS!!!!!!!!!!

  • omg yay i didnt plan on any videos being on this band i thought i was the only one in the world who knew about them finnally i found people that know my favorite band

  • This song gives me confidence :]

  • I like the tuning the guitarist uses. He plays in (lowest to highest) CGCGCC. Fucking crazy, I still have yet to try it...

  • Just Google'd the lyrics. Powerful. Although, I must admit, I'm not entirely certain to it's meaning. This song is like poetry to me. Just got hooked on this band!

  • so good. they need to get bigger so the whole world can know the gravity FTM brings

  • but the bigger they are the harder they fall

  • :O heavy

  • this saturday, FTM IN HOUSTON

  • this is my fav band from Serjical strike....even though System of a Down is way better

  • I used to think so too... But I now think that Serj has found someone with true talent, that is not in any way lacking. I think, after being a hardcore system fan for many years, that FTM is better than System.

  • I wouldn't say that they are better than System of a Down just due to the fact that no one can exactly replicate System's style. This is the first time I've heard this band, though, and I genuinely like it.

  • That's what I thought at first too. But the more you listen to them, the more you are addicted. Just you wait. A year and a half, and this is just about all I listen to.

  • hang us those limbs have no virtue ...thats a powerfull statement

  • omg i really wanna learn how to play this on piano!!

  • Dude, I totally agree.
