The Borg battle of this movie should have been much longer, lethal looking, it was just too short in content. The producers of the movie should have made the Borg more of a threat instead it was more a ship in the bottle approach. Despite this it was still a good movie to watch even with its flaws!
Borg Queen to Data: ''You are an imperfect beeing, created by imperfect beeings. Finding your weakness is only a matter of time.'' Well, wouldn't the borg sensors have detected the on/off switch on the side of his torso?
Interesting. Data is like the robot in Not Quite Human who wishes to be human, the giant cube is like that of Star Fox's Andross, the time travel is like that in ST IV, the Borg is like the cyborgs in Quake. Star Trek certainly inspired and was inspired by a lot of media.
@Fraktalus well it was data that smashed it.. come on! not some weak ferengi ..but i guess it proves the borg aint that smart after all .. looks like perfection still alludes them and clear skin
The borg put things IN your Eye. Now I Remember why i didn't watched this film for Six Years or so. Don't watch Star Trek: First Contact with an eight Year old Kid.
I can't believe you missed out the classic line. "The line must be drawn HERE! THIS FAR! NO FURTHEERRRR!" ... "Blow up the damn ship!" ... "No.... NOOOOOO!" *smash* lol. Classic.
Much as I love this movie, I cannot figure out how a "rocket missile" that can travel faster then light is supposed to be some type of warhead. Why would that be the first application that springs to mind, given you can now TRAVEL FASTER THEN LIGHT. The professor is like "nuke of course, what the hell else would you use that for, space travel to other stars? Pffft. Nuke baby, I likes the nukes!"
Yes the Borg, the most feared and advanced race ever encountered, can't destroy a primitive human wilderness camp with ten shots, much less one.
Aren't these the same guys who destroyed the surface of entire planets ,despite them being advanced, in a matter of hours?
I like First Contact as a Next Gen movie because, let's face it, the rest were terrible. But First Contact is still pretty bad. Bad like Rocky Road ice cream :D Delicious and sinful, but you just can't help yourself.
Don't forget that they were hauling ass out of the cube. There's every possibility that they were damaged in the escape. Also, they had little idea exactly where they needed to target. There were any number of possible sites to hit.
"Captain Ahab has to go hunt his whale!". Neat how they sneaked that one in there as Patrick Steward did play Capt. Ahab in a Mobey Dick movie remake some years back.
@ACLTony Yeah, but if I remember correctly, Moby Dick came out after Star trek, First contact. I could be wrong about that timeline, though. But I thought his playing of Capt. Ahab was intriguing.
--__--- interuption--- this is the borg--- you will surrender your ships and your pussy ass comments and just listen to this beautiful song... resistance is futile... and we will be back bitches. we have built a new ship with a 140 disruptor bays super max quantom torpedoes. 234 phazer banks and now have the abiility to cloak and fire without giving up our postion. you will surrender. hahahahahahahahahahaha
This has ALL the best points in Star Trek: First Contact. If you have never watched the entire movie...watch this and tell me you DON'T want to fill in the blanks. This was one of the GREATEST Star Trek movies ever made. Rent or purchase it now and see what you have been missing.
@slou1 Yeah I know, (spoiler alert) he died in nemesis, I was commenting on data in general, not just his actions in this movie. For the record I have seen both movies in their entirity.
@Mittau data isnt dead at end of this, just his organic skin. or if ur refuring to the end of nemesis then he is also not dead, his memory chip he put into B4 kicks in and he comes back, u find out about this in star trek countdown comic. data becomes the captain of the enterprise, and jean-luc becomes ambassador to Vulcan
hey, JJ did great, nothing is like the original but you can't make a modern star trek film and it appeal to anyone but us (trekies). The new movie honors the original series and sets it up so that nothing future movies do will change the importance of the original movies since it is another reality. The new movie doesnt have the epic character convos the old ones have but you have to admit it was a great step in a new direction for a different group of characters (they only share the names).
Compared to this, that new Star Trek 2009 movie is absolute trash. Take out the special effects, and you've got nothing there. JJ Abrams turned the Star Trek franchise into Star Wars, and had the gall to use the characters of Kirk, McCoy and Spock to do it. Idiot.
First Contact is the epitome of Star Trek goodness, bar none. When Roddenberry, in his last years, said that his one wish is for some young bright thing to come along and do it better and bigger than he did, he didn't mean fuck it up
@bellerophon602 you, on the other hand, are far more accomplished sitting on your fat ass in front of the computer in between shifts at the video store

I have this on vhs recorded from the tv, and that doesn't have the shot of the borg queen dissolving? Was there a TV edit or something? Or was that part just cut from the film anyway?
Achally no, just the new series says that they remove the brain and put it in a metal shell. In the old ones they were even more like the borg because they slowly replaced sertan organs as they wore out, so they were all at least half organic, thats why they change in appearance so often in the original Doctor who series.
Think the Borg were Rodinberry's original creation Thhink again. Watch the Michael Jackson Captain EO video on youtube. Wholy crap!!! 1986 vs 1999. Geoge lucas helped. Borg queen was not original!!!! I still love star trek though! spread the word!! They even havin docking stations in captain EO. RIP Michael Jackson!
the whole film was once on u tube. but i cant find it no more. dose any one know if there is a website where i can see it all again. plzzz help if u can. i have cold turky for this film.
that rocket launching from the ground looks like a big dick. Come to think of it phallic symbolism is an ancient motif, an occult religion. Dick symbols are everywhere around us; light poles, architecture, weapons, and on and on....dicks everywhere, whether you like it or not.
Consider how far we've come in just the last century, from horse drawn carriages and the very earliest automobiles to such marvels as the F-22 Raptor and the space shuttle Enterprise. The progress we've made since the first car til now took only 100 years, and how long had we been putzing around with the crap we've replaced in those hundred years? a few THOUSAND?
Our tech progress is speeding up at an unbelievable rate, so who knows?
we only do good when developing technology when we are in a war of some kind. i think that even if we are in tense situations such as wars we should develop technology at the same pace.
I think that's when it makes it's grand appearance, when whatever side developed something needs it the most. The internal combustion engine wasn't made for war, but once war came and we needed an edge, it got dragged to the forefront.
Atomic weapons also were not the first application for splitting the atom, which was to produce electricity, although not on the scale of a nuclear power plant, which came immediately after WW2.
Often times we've developed new technologies for non-military, peaceful purposes, but when war came, militaries the world over from as far back as taking a simple hunting implement in the bow and arrow to using atomic theory to wipe out entire cities, the tech came for peaceful purposes first, and then was turned into an engine for war later.
Yeah, my thoughts exactly...that's why I always find anti-gun politicians and the like distasteful when they cite civilian using/owning "military type assault weapons", when in fact it is usually the military that adopts civilian use weapons. The technology that is a rifle was designed as a survival tool, which was to hunt for food. But, it can also be used as a tool to cause harm.
Oh yeah, you´re right. But then again, we have advanced so much in such little time (think about it, just some 60 years ago people didn´t have fridges or tv´s or lots of other stuff). One never knows.... cheers!
That was a great way to see a boring film in less than 10 minutes .... at that rate we could go out to the cinema and see 20 movies in one night ... :-)
The Borg battle of this movie should have been much longer, lethal looking, it was just too short in content. The producers of the movie should have made the Borg more of a threat instead it was more a ship in the bottle approach. Despite this it was still a good movie to watch even with its flaws!

What does that have to do with this movie?
The day before First Contact is April 4th.
The day of First Contact is April 5th.
When I watched this movie, I was floored.
I know it's ONLY a coincidence, but still.
It's a really good movie, but not because of those dates

He spent like 90 seconds on the cyberporn with Data and that queen thing.
Make it about 12 minutes, show just the kiss with Data, and add a few things that were left out.

"I'm a doctor, not a doorstop" should have been included.
Also "assimilate THIS" and a few others.
raygordon 3 years ago 2
The "assimilate this" part was undoubtedly the worst part. Cringe worthy.
