just keep practicing dude. don't give up. I've been playing for over thirteen years and recently discovered elliot smith oddly enough. i'm about to sit down and try to learn this song. what you should do is not try to learn the whole thing at once. take it part by part. and don't worry about the double string picking with your index and middle fingers. hit whatever notes you need to all at once, get the melody and then seperate it out later. I hope this helps.

The whole guitar is tuned one step down. This is Elliott's usual tuning. But the recording on XO sounds different becuase he has it 'nashville tuning' but don't worry about that if you're a beginner with this piece! :)

which fingers are you picking with in the begining? obviously your thumb covers the bas notes, but what about the high strings? Are you using your middle finger at all?
