I like the males better than the females. The guys seem to be more fluid and elegant, while the girls are a little stiff and maybe imature espescially in their arm work.
@polandjesus That shouldn't be a hinder. They are proffesional dancers, and are supposed to be as fluid en pointe as without shoes. The males have to jump higher and turn more, and we (the girls) have to do the stuff en pointe - without the arms getting affected. Believe me, i know from experience..
I love this ballet and recently found out the music was by Knudage Riisager (after Carl Czerny) Regarding the dance style of the Bournonville female dancers, I feel the Men are much stronger techically Their elegance pulled up core and footwork is brilliant.. I like Kenneth Greve very much
I do believe that was Lander's whole point in this ballet - it's inspired by ballet classroom exercises. Like it or not (and not everyone does), it's one of ballet's most often-performed, popular ballets for whatever reason..a good one-act technical showpiece filler ballet. It's in the reps of ABT, Kirov, Paris Opera Ballet, among others. I think Landers choreographed it as a showpiece for his famous ballerina wife, Toni...
Yes. An étude (a French word meaning study), is an instrumental musical composition, most commonly of considerable difficulty, usually designed to provide practice material for perfecting a particular technical skill.
The female corps in RDB doesnt look very strong, has this always been the case or is it just these recent years? I saw them a few years back doing some Balanchine and I got the same impression. They also must have been able to find a better etoile for this, maybe Yao Wei? rather than Caroline Cavallo here.
wow...she´s just not good enough for this , sorry

@boonchuey I think they are Izabella Sokolowska and Dawid Kupinski to the left. No idea about those to the right though.

But girls are on point. So that makes it harder for them. I know from experience.

This Ballet shows the diversity of the Danish School.

So the ballet reflects that.

Kenneth Greve does GREAT fouettes! It is amazing when he and all the others fouette together. Such precision!
