I'm working with this product. easy to use if you have you sht together. New wood floor. Pre sand using a pole sander like drywallers use. Vacuum. Cut in with brush. Use a 3/8ths 9in. roller nap with roller pole. After rolling use this pad or in my case I use an 18inch roller like painters use. I make it so the roller doesnt roll. So it take the place of a pad works great. Sand the first coat/vac. Then 2 coats over the top. MONEY!!!!
unfortunately the onnly way to get a great finish using the Varathane is hands and knews 220 grit between coats with hand palm techniques to smooth then apply with a good 4'' brush with long even strokes. Let dry for about 4 hours depending on humidity and temp 4 coats recommended. The finish will be perfect. I top mine off with a Briwax natural (original) People always ask how I get my finishes to look so good. There you are!
You might be right, Billchatz, but the floor turned out very nice. We researched how to apply the Varathane and followed the directions closely. He still lives in that house and he still gets compliments on the beauty of the old hardwood floor.
Never apply the way he is doing it. Any drops WILL show if not wiped immediately. Especially after the amount of time he has left it. This will turn out to be a very shiny sloppy floor that will last years.
