  • Incrivel !!!

  • He could still see , Jackie talks too much.

  • He was the only driver who could drive a formula car ,sideways!!!. AND STILL FINISH FIRST.

Jimmy Clark and Gilles were the best there`s ever been . Salut Gilles

  • That was in Montreal 81 l he fininish 3rd :)

  • well as niki lauda once said, "he is the craziest bast*rd i've ever met!" Senna and Raikkonen both mad ballsy moments but Gilles was like this week-in-week out :)

  • God bless you Gilles !

  • crazy! first time seeing this one. Got Balls!

  • Gilles was a daredevil, driving on 3 tires and driving with a wing covering his view (and driving perfectly down the race line), and going FULL throttle down Long Island.

  • @sookster54 I mean Long Beach...

  • Gilles, the true wet weather driver...

  • i think he should have got black flag for that

  • This proofs that blind people can drive.

  • @KyleDarron still faster than any of these piece of junk cars of today

  • Only Gilles. That's why we love him so.

  • @farfromperfect85 As brilliant as Senna or Clark were, I wouldn`t see either of those two doing this. He was one of a kind.

  • Great video. Thanks for uploading!!

  • ウィングを落とすために凹凸のあるところを

    選んで走っていたそうな。

    ウィングが取れた途端、明らかに速くなった!

  • I remember this, he wasn't exactly the rainmaster (that goes to Senna) but he handled very well and put the right amount of gas to the ground. I still don't know how he managed to maneuver around the track with a wing in front of him, much less not losing control going around corners.

I don't think this was the short lived "fan car", Ferrari were very weak in the chassis category back in those times so their flat 12 and turbo V6 made up for it.

  • @1982Mallory

Too much politics in the era where Senna and Piquet drove.

But give you right, it would have been interesting, too see Villeneuve vs. Senna.

  • Maybe he died without Championship, but for me, Gilles would be the greatest artist of wheel and the greates Pilot of the World.

    Grazie Gilles

  • Sigue acelerando Gilles, desde donde estes. Sigue acelerando.

Gilles continues to accelerate, from where you are. Continues to accelerate.

  • What an absolute hero!

  • Le meilleur pilote au monde! R.IP Villeneuve!

  • Ahah... what to say today???? SAFETY CAR. Dumbs safety

  • Does he need the front wing.truly immortal

  • back then men use to race. salut Gilles!!! we miss you

  • That WAS a driver. Senna almost seems gay compared to Gilles.A Real racing Driver

  • as he goes on his merry way

  • Who need wings anyway when you have a ground effect car. ;)

  • @Erik2Ammo wasn't a Ground car for FIA

it had 5 cm from the ground "when was at Boxes" when was at track the car go down to make the Ground Effect just for avoid Miniskirts rules ;)

  • @RedhotIta1

Ah ok, I didn't know that! Interesting to see how creative the teams were back then about the 'rules' ^^

  • @Erik2Ammo oh ye, Creatives 80s :D Best times for F1

  • @Erik2Ammo If it wasn't raining in that race, he would've fallen back in the pack, in the rain the wing wouldn't matter that much because of lower racing speeds.

  • Watched every race since 1975, never seen anyone else drive like him. Only Senna had the same magic touch

  • @fabsternyc You really just contradicted yourself there =P

  • This is from the CBC isn't it? I rememeber watching it. Gilles would never be black flagged in Montreal....I believe he finished 3rd! This is what happens when you put a good old Canadian snowmobile racer in a Ferrari....I think his brother still races snowmobiles.

  • which race track?

  • @Austria4ever1000 Canada - Montreal.

  • @Jejking That's his track? looks REALLY different now

  • awesome driver , awesome style , awesome heart ....That's Villeneuve!

  • Habrá habido otros mejores o con mas resultados, pero Gilles siempre será mi máximo ídolo de la F1

  • I'm proud to say I was there watching from the grandstand at that corner in the pouring rain that day, with my brother. We were there for the first Montreal Grand Prix when Gilles won his first GP too. He was the greatest. Obviously you can't really compare drivers of different eras. But when you read what his contemporaries/ fellow drivers thought of him, it makes you wonder what other drivers inspired that kind of awe and respect from their rivals. Maybe only Clark and Fangio.

  • Gotta give him credit for driving the 126C1 wich according to Harvey Posthlewaite was crap undrivable with a massive turbolag and broken front wing. That's what I liked about Villeneuve he never gave up and allways battled to the end but he was fair and square and at the end of the day he could say that it was a good dice. Only Driver who comes close to him is Kubica lets hope that can get back behind the wheel

  • Awesome footage! I should watch more gold era videos.

  • i wish i had of been alive to watch him. his son tries to have the same spirit but from what i can compare, jacque pales in comparison

  • "Quite seriously, I've never felt anything like the same about racing ever since. I nearly packed it up."

Nigel Roebuck, motorsport journalist and friend of Villeneuve

  • Mansell on Gilles Villeneuve: "He was a great friend, he took me up in his helicopter once and he flew it the same way he drove."

  • what a legend!!

  • Read the comment about Jys not being Villeneuve, I really rate Gilles the man was a genius of that there is no doubt but Jackie Stewart was a triple world champion & Villeneuve killed himself without winning the title once. That speaks volumes, formula 1 is a thinking mans game, the fearless are usually listed amongst the dead.

  • @footlongtallywacker: Type "Stewart Senna interview" in the YouTube search field and hear Jackie argue with another fearless dead driver. Yes, Jackie was of a generation wherein if you drove too frisky, certain death was the penalty. I've heard him rail against the younger's generation's irresponsible driving, brought on by the increased crashworthiness of the cars. I was at that Montreal race - in those days I and others thought "Kamikaze" wasn't too extreme a word to describe Gilles.

  • WHICH RACE it happened?

    Gilles the legend

  • @poussyledzep I`d say it would be the 1981 Canadian Grand Prix cause he's got the 27 on his car. But fantastic stuff, and he finished 3rd! -Daz in Oz

  • Gilles, competitive, determined, fearless, a true great.

  • I am a huge fan of Gilles but he should have stopped or been ordered to stop. Probably because it was the Canadian Grand Prix so he was allowed to continue.

Yes, it was great that he could control the car in that condition but for the safety of the other drivers and the fans, it should have been stopped.

  • @smegweevil canadian gp has nothing to do with it, FIA calls the shots, always has and always will.

  • @SuperColossal33 At the time, if I remember from some magazine... They had a panel at the steward office One of them was from the Canadian GP but was only to supervise, one from USA, and some FIA guys (2 or 3)... And, at one point the Canadian say what is that? And the others one start looking at that with really big eyes and, when the wing fall off say "I've seen Nothing!".

Since nobody complain, that they see "nothing" except for the Canadian who can't call the shoot (neutrality)... Well!

  • @therrydicule I don't think, I think it's all FIA. Gilles did something similar to this at Zandvoort driving around with 3 wheels on the car shooting dirt all over the track, he got no black flag, and then got upset that his pit crew werent repairing the damage, only when he got out of the car did he notice a wheel was missing lol.

  • @SuperColossal33 Well, from what I remember it was "worst" than just FIA because.... Well, the neutral representative did see it and say a comment while the guy from the FIA decide to do like they did not see it. These guys from that time were more liberal than now and liked a good show... Which Gilles was putting. So they decide that they seen nothing; the Canadian did his job, to stay neutral.

However, if Brabham (for instance) would have been complained, it would have been different ;)

  • I remember watching this race live on TV when I was a little kid.

Anybody remember what was the date at which this race was taking place?

  • @THESKYMASTER 9 27 81 cold rain

  • @dsg1100xx

    Thank you

  • @THESKYMASTER September 27, 1981

  • Schumacher?, Alonso?, Hamilton? NO!!! VILLENEUVE!!! esa es la forma en que se conduce un formula 1, que los otros fueron campeones? que es ser un campeon sin tener el corazon que tenia Villeneuve? MAGICO!!! IL piccolo aviatore!!!

  • I don't think there's ever been a driver whose car control can rival Villeneuve. He was practically superhuman in that regard.

  • Great piece of driving!

  • 'If I were he now, I would make no attempt to do another lap'

But you're not Gilles now, are you Jackie? Not even close.

  • @csykes23 Jackie Stewart won three world championships. I'd respect his opinion if I were you...

  • @wahaya2

Not only that, Stewart fought for despeartely needed safety regulations during his whole career.

A lot of drivers indirectly owes there lives to him today.

Of course Villeneuve was a great driver but Steward definately was more professional than him.

  • Yes the drive that made the City rename the track after him..Oh man i was like 5 when i seen this on tv.

  • awesome!

  • The great Jackie Stewart on the comments.

    Gilles forever!

  • Fantastic car control at the hairpin!

  • he couldve been the canadian phil hill

  • BALL BEARINGS!

  • Imagine how much faster his car would have been if his incredibly huge balls weren't weighing him down.

  • nice :)

  • A Lost nose cone would not stop him the car had to lose all 4 wheels for Gilles to even think of retiring from the race.

Even then he would probaly still try and carry on.

Gilles Villeneuve a true Racecar drive

    R.I.P

  • @falmark187

i think even Gilles would probably quit at 3 wheels gone! LOL

  • He was a master in handling the formula 1 car...!

We miss someone like Gill today!

    R.I.P!

  • in which race and in what year was it?

    Fanatastic Gill!

  • @GazerS1

    Montreal 1981.

  • @UomoLele

thanks and congratulations for the video

  • It's not mine :-P But i love it!

  • Typical of "Gil" Villeneuve. Simply amazing. I miss this guy very much !! Forever remembered.

  • Absolute car control ! Maybe not the best driver of all time, but in my mind, definetly the fastest.

  • Absoluely awesome!!!

  • I bet he was still faster than the others lol

  • what year was that?

  • 1981 :)

  • I don´t like the title, is misleading....

  • That was Gilles..Never give a car if u can still drive it!!!

  • Forza Villeneuve!

  • gill ke pazzo eri.guidare senza visuale per colpa dell'alettone anteriore.del resto se nn eri così nn saresti stato il nostro amato villeneuve ke oggi conosciamo. go go go gilles! :D

  • Aujourd'hui, un pilote qui ferait cela serait "puni"....

    Déclassé + une grosse amende..etc..etc
