Dollars to poutine that if you threw on a 4-blade Garret you could get that last 50 knots and cruise at 400....throttle back to, say, 270 and you could maybe make it from Bellingham, WA to Anchorage, Alaska in one hop?
Hahahaha! I spit my iced tea out when "Shit Disturber" popped up! Great video and let the owner know that he is a wanker because I am extremely jealous!
lucky im 12 we only have a piper sport and a lear jet i ask my parents to get 1 and we searched 1 and we couldnt find anything but sport planes we r getting a new plane and im talking him into getting me an legend edition the piper sport is a beginner plane so when my dad is sitting beside me i get to drive to point a to point b ive seen these at airports and im trying ti talk my parents in to it all we have is a piper sport and a bomier learjet
i hate tpe-331 1000hp garretts i have them in my planes (ac690) and they keep brakeing down and they are soooo noisey but the good news in thye get a hell of a lot of power out of them but good luck
They don't break down if you take care of them. This is the reason why the garrett TPE-331-10 is the only turboprop engine with a TBO as high as 5,400 hours. And personaly, I think the fact that you taxi up to FBOs making all kinds of noise is a cool thing. And plus, Garretts sound beautiful when they idle.
Must be nice to be super rich. I gotta move up from the fast food counter and become a high end male prostitute. Maybe then I could afford one one day
@ismasamov55 The owner of this plane is actually co-owner of Springbank Air Training College, you should look it up sometime it may give you some inspiration to actually do something with your life, not just write rude comments on youtube all day about someone's accomplishments.
@CA477544 Whatcha talk'in bout willis????? The comments I have presented here are self deprecating. Maybe not about the Lawyer bit. but there are a lot worse things said about lawyers. oh oh are you one of those? Grow a thick skin boy.
both are close in size with the legend being a bit smaller.
both share the same top speed
vipers a bit more heavy
both share the same approx range...... but the fuel load for the legend is 120 + 40 (long range) gal and the vipers is 250 + 70 (l.r.)..... thats the biggest difference right there
climb for the legend is higher via 2000ish fpm
stall speed is 5 kts faster for the viper...
personally i lover the viperjet and would love to build one... who knows, might happen :-)
Thanks JD, wow the specs are very similar indeed, I love this little Legend and the Lancair Evo as well, however with the Javelin off the cards the Viper or a used L39 are tempting as well, but full props, no pun indeed :) on the Legend you have there, awesome craft indeed.
@jetdoctr The people want to hear the magnificent aircraft only, nothing else is required. I had to shut it down at 30 seconds. Do the owner a favor and show him this comment.
@b1cc2 People utterly destroy otherwise great videos with music. I turn the sound down so I can at least enjoy the visuals. These are the same kind of people who move next to you way out in the country where it is nice and peaceful and quiet and play gangster rap that can be heard for miles.
When you say 'other guy' do you mean the young man with the goatee beard and the young lady as accompanyment? I still think your aerie is great albeit primer gray. Just the performance specs sound really whack. To get 350kt TAS or IAS? Surely you re getting close to Airbus cruise speeds.
andy that would be correct as to who i am, the aircraft remains in primer grey due to the fact that we keep tweaking it.... and with a 20k paint job who wants to mess around and scratch the paint... specs at fl290 are pushing 400 ktas with cruise at anywhere between 330 and 380 ktas depending on how fast we want to get to where we are going. the aircrafts vne is set at 400 ktas so the highest we have dared to go is 398 ktas and still had some power remaining in the engine. IAS low is over 300
Ok, so then we have met. What kind of special training would a private pilot need to fly a turbine legend? I'm sure everyone who seen the legend would like to own one. I think the prohibitive facts would be hot section services on the turbine, and running costs as well. What is the economical range on the Garrett vs say a Walter 601 or a PT6A?In South Africa major airports are not mre than 700NM from each other. Is $300k a fair cost for building a legend to C-GUTT spec? Interesting to find out.
I had the pleasure of seeing C-GUTT on the ramp @ AirVenture '07 alongside Lanny Rundell's Legend. Although C-GUTT was still in primer gray, she looked awesome. She has a higher front e-nd (ground clearance) to clear the big prop as well as a longer nose. Awesome. Andy - South Africa
no there are no piston legends flying at the moment and most likley wont be any anytime soon. the prototype was converted to turbine and noone has looked back since. couldnt meet the numbers with the piston.
the reason we installed the oxo. system is due to the fact that cruse altitude for this aircraft is FL250 to FL290 at those heights we true out very close to 400 kts at near the same fuel burn that the walter engine has at 280 kts at 17000 ft.... the helmets are military and I belive were sourced on ebay like all the other gobs of military stuff in that bird
what is the total cost of the plane...i've been on the website and it looks like the airframe build costs 120,000? what about avionics, pwrplant, etc.?
total cost really can vary quite a bit, go with a -all out- glass panel setup and you can be around 70-90k, walter engines can run around the 50-70k mark and the garrets can run up to 120k... and that doesnt include build costs... i have seen some flying units up on ebay for 400k and go up from there... the one featured.... is on the high end of "up there" with the work our shop has done to it
that must not be the Walter M601-D engine.....i thought it had a different start sequence. my dad was a crop duster at winnsboro airport louisiana where lany builds these legends.
Aircraft sound is half of the fun waching turbine powered aircraft. Why would u put gay music over sound?

yes, the kits are still available. but im unsure of cost. best to either call our shop, or legend directly

@jetdoctr I think the kit is $120k without an engine. Don't quote me on that but I seem to remember that number.

Viper - stable, well supported.
I've flown in the original TL years ago back when it was based at OJC... stellar performance!
But with similar numbers the jet wins - smoother, quieter, less maint, better supported, better looking.
