  • This dude can make that guitar sing!!!!!

  • Oh yeah...we're "gonna know your name...by the end of the night"!!!!

  • Yes, I found it!! I just saw this a couple of days ago on PBS for the fist time, and it was an amazing time!

  • Love this dude's vibe. And you gotta love the bass player's swag!

  • Wöw! :)) I love him

  • WOW WOW WOW THIS IS AWESOME

  • I like Gary for his old school, dirty blues style but honestly, style, technique, technical ability and feel dont come near to JM. It wil be interesting to see where he is at musically after 4 or 5 albums but i doubt he will still be playing the blues.

  • This brother looks like he stepped straight out of 1970. Great sound and presence. This kids got it all.

  • Who are the 7 or so soul less motherfuckers who disliked this video?

  • CHRIST at 7:05 he had some celestial sounds goin on.

  • Gary you are an AMAZING TALET!!! KEEP ROCKIN THAT SH!T

  • Keeping him going! I hope he does not die young! Is he over 27?

  • It's so great when people find their true calling. I'm pretty sure GC wasn't meant to be a doctor, accountant, rocket scientist, etc. Groovy musical perfection.

  • We as a nation allow opinions to be given freely. Lets not forget Music as an art and not fall for the business aspect of competition. Some may be great to you but good to another. If we can just enjoy without calling any better than any other we could progress into acceptance more so than desktop critics. Like comparing famous paintings or wine snobs with vintage vino. The point of anyone picking up any instrument at the root I feel is to entertain and not be compared.

  • Damn... Heavy, heavy stuff! We know your name Gary Clark Jr.!

  • i would not necessarily call him a better or more bluesy guitarist than john mayer, blues is too varied for that kind of comparison. but he is DEFINITELY a better blues singer than mayer.

sorry john mayer, you just ain't got the voice for blues!

  • thanx for sharing , chees

  • It doesn't even look like he's trying... His fingers are just kind of moving. Pretty damn good

  • I am not a fan of blues. I am not a fan of Jazz. I am not a fan of soul.

In fact, I don't even know which of those genre this falls under...

But this song is PURE FUCKEN GENIUS!!! I heard it last night driving back home late at night on the radio and instantly fell in love. I didn't want the song to end. It fit so perfectly with the lights of Montreal. I was in awe of this brilliance.

Will definately be checking these genre's and this artist out more!

  • @CharlieSheensIdol If humans feel the need to identify with labels and categories in order to allow something good seep into their enjoyment area of their brain, it could be said said human may be limiting themselves as slaves to a certain industry. No disrespect but from the realm of creativity that behavior pattern could lead to boundaries. If this is your first trip to the "thinking outside the box" world, I say Bravo and wanna welcome you to it. Peace, and may this be the first of many more

  • @bakedsushi

I agree. But day in and day out, people are bombarded with "genres" and even "sub genres" that it becomes almost innevitable that it will end up eminating in whatever they create. When I play guitar, no matter how hard I try, I will always hear a vibe that sounds almost Tool or Deftones-like... even though it is my own, unique sound.

To create something completely void of any influence is extremely hard (and, ime, is usually achieved through drug use)

  • @CharlieSheensIdol Well no matter how u achieve your own vibe represent it well and do not allow the man to brainwash you. Music is communication genres only manipulate you if you allow them too. Folks would be shocked to learn what their fav players have listened too. Most wont reveal it but MEN have no prob doing it. Muddy Waters listened too "little jimmie rodgers" and learnd chord progressions from him....lol

  • This dude rocks!

  • LOVE THE LICKS THIS MAN CAN PUT DOWN,,,thought he was related to Stanley Clark, a most incredible blues man.... We are surely going to know his name

  • This is the best song on the Crossroads 2010. The rest was as usual.....

  • When you listen to Gary, John Mayer, Joe Bonamassa, basically the future of blues. It makes it even more annoying when untalented people do better than them in music! So frustrating!

  • Or is it Robert cray you crave? Yes stevie had a spine tingling way about him but robert tells his stories in similar manner.

  • 4 people are deft

  • gary Clarks the Man!!

  • I can't watch this enough! Such a fascinatingly stellar performance! If other work is great as well!

  • This man and Black Keys gonna save to word from shit music!!!!

  • How is it that lady gaga can be a superstar but practically no one has heard of this guy? I mean just listen, that's real talent. He doesn't need any gimmicks to show his ability.

  • @scroggs56

Gonna have to disagree with you a little, dude. i grew up listening to blues with my dad, and it's a joy for me to listen to young talents like Gary carrying the delta torch; but you can't deny lady gaga's musical talent either. sure, her commercialism is over the top, but if you've ever actually listened to her singing voice or watched her play the piano, there's true talent behind all the showmanship. there is room for both gary clark and gaga in the musical world.

  • This song is fucking amazing! But idk while i hear this i.jus picture an assasin prepari.g to take out someone. Cleaning his gun, loading his own ammo, gettin geared up than walking out to finish his target. All in epic slo-mo. This isnt weird is it?

  • @randomazn420 it is weird lol

  • you are watching a living fucking legend right here

  • wonder what doyles saying to him in the first solo??

  • This reminds me of some of those magic field concerts in Ireland/Scotland back in the 70s where guys would just show up and blow your ass away with their music from out of nowhere....why isn't this cat the main attraction everywhere he goes???

  • THAT is some of the BEST tone I have ever heard in my life.AWESOME

  • 3:30 fucking awesome tone !

  • fuckin freakin great! <3

  • Bud lights baked ziti going to my headd

  • Maybe he'll re-introduce Blues to the brotha's?? I'm tired of Hip Hop's reign! LOL..

  • @Zhorellski love your thoughts on 'the matter' of music in the younger-gens eyes.. HA! I dont hear the music part, I hear the bong bong bam bam in Hip Hop..no music. So its not even music and we are right, blues are outtasite.. nice goin Gary Clark.. getting into the big ole Crossroads fest! Nice soundboard share too, thanks for this!

  • Fuck, now I need more.

  • I hate how some people could even think about disliking this awesome performance!

  • Ya'll need to watch the entire Clapton 2010 Crossroads festival. It features great players, but in context you'll see just how great Gary Clark Jr is. He totally stole the show while the sun was still out. Totally rocked it. You can see how the crowd was like "WTF??" when he played it was so great.

  • Comment removed

  • I never leave this comment, but who could possibly dislike this???? Wow.

  • He totally rocks and is about to blow up bigtime. New EP out 3 days ago. Get it now!!! Also if you watch the entire 4.5 hour 2 part Crossroads 2010 video you'll see he TOTALLY stole the show while the sun was still out. The crowd was FLOORED for obvious reasons. Gary Clark Jr yo!!

  • Comment removed

  • His name deserves to be very widely known indeed! Powerful, powerful performance.

  • What guitar does Gary play?

  • @zipzagger99 Looks like a gibson archtop

  • WOW!!!!!

  • Saw him open for and play with Robert Randolph and the Family Band last week for $2..... i would've paid $50 for that.

  • Austin, TX!

  • this isn't HD - the other version at 360p looks and sounds better than this at 480p (watch?v=x_ZeDn-hHGE) in my opinion

  • rock on Gary

  • Love this

  • this guy is fucking nasty

  • @rocknroll8928 in a good way??

  • Do not miss ''When my train pulls in'', the older version, no video, just picture. The link below somehow does not work, sorry

  • just saw this guy for the first time on a pbs special last night--im officially a fan now. he's brilliant.

  • Thanks god for giving him this truckload of talent :) So un-comparable to Mayer, for good :) Like style, sound, stunning voice ....So nice, just listening non-stop ... So true to his soul, so authentic (as they said) ....

  • @SanchinnDachi I just found out about this guy the other day, but I've gotta agree with you about his authenticity. He even looks authentic, meaning he looks like he focuses more on his music than trying to conform to the current societal standard of physical attractiveness. I'm impressed!

  • el alma del blues siempre es nueva

  • Clark is great.. No reason to insult Mayer over it though haha. Love this song though, especially the horns and drums

  • progress back to old school !

  • I don't see how anyone could compare Mayer to any of the great "white' blues players-Clapton, Page, Allman, Betts, Roy Buchanan, Trower, Johnny Winter, Gary Moore, SRV etc. He just can't be named in the same breath as those guys. He's benefitting from belonging to a generation where fewer people play instruments, let alone play blues.

  • If John Mayer is the future of the blues, then it's a bleak future indeed!

  • @robertmacisaac Have you heard what he did with 'I don't need no doctor' ? Or how about Try? It might not be your taste, but calling it a bleak future is just uninformed.

  • @robertmacisaac its called innovation of outdated music

  • I typed this song in on YouTube and some guy named "Cee Lo Green" showed up, who the hell is he? Gary Clark needs to be known!!

  • Very soulful voice..killer song!! I am glad i bought the DVD.

I will have to keep an eye on GCJ..I wish him the best..

    best wishes

  • Just bought the crossroads 2010 dvd and what a pleasant surprise discovering this excellent guitarist!

  • Gary Clark Jr. is one of the most amazing Unkowns out!! Just a bad ass all the way around. He fits the bill 100%

  • I was lucky to be front row for this show - the entire PA system went completely OUT during this performance!!! We could barely hear the band on stage. Obviously a seperate audio feed was being recorded.

  • yeah four minutes in.. paydirt. and of course the man can sing! but guitar.. speaks what words can not/

  • killer, killer!!! cool, calm, collective, one of my new favs..

  • COME TO BRAZIL!

  • SO good!! One of the best songs of the concert! Im addicted to him!

  • Can someone please send me the lyrics for this? at least the second line

  • @offthewall68 "Just outside of Marcy's - West 54th" is the second line

  • @Austexmusic Thank you very much!

  • That boy went there to play.

  • @GuitarMaster6567 ''that boy'' i really do hope your black.

  • @BigTimeBluesFan989 Black/hispanic =P but why does it matter?

  • @GuitarMaster6567 i'm sorry bro, it just sound a little racist when you said ''that boy''

  • Same here. He blew me away.

  • if anyone wants tabs for 95% of the licks in this message me or check out my cover in my vids

  • 2 dislikes REALLY.......

  • Heard him on PBS last week. Found him today on You Tube. Shared on FB. Let's all know his name.

  • Reminds me of Robert Cray. Great, soulful sound - the voice AND the guitar.

  • Reminds me of Robert Cray. Great, soulful sound - the voice AND the guitar.

  • @kirkpendergras, I agree. Gary Clark Jr. is fantastic -- I didn't know who he was until I saw this video. And Doyle Bramhall II is great too. He always finds a way to play just the right thing.

  • Glad I stumbled upon this last night. Reminds me of SRV.

  • Yep, just learned his name too. I wont forget it either!! Just saw the performance on pbs tonight, did't catch the name so came to youtube. What an amazing performance!!!

  • @kirkpendergras ditto on that one. Flipping around the channels and caught this gem too!! Amazing!!!

  • @arsenalfan98 same here bro, caught it on PBS lol. Talented guy.

  • Gary Clark Jr. > John Mayer

  • @JMoonOnRye needless to say

  • Absolutely smoking performance. I haven't been riveted like this since Stevie Ray passed away. Just brilliant.

  • @kyster17 and @weebles777, the guy in yellow's name is Doyle Bramhall II and he's actually a very highly regarded blues artist in his own right. He tours as part of Eric Clapton's band and has appeared in all three of Clapton's Crossroads festivals to date. I think what you're seeing is just his stage persona -- he's always kind of fidgety. And, he's doing a "sit in" appearance in on Gary Clark Jr's band. He's probably just trying to figure out how to play with this particular group of guys.

  • @mutt3135 He sounded great to me!! I don't care what he does onstage!!!!

  • @mutt3135 Doyle's dad wrote songs with SRV.

  • I know his name now! Hot damn!

  • 2 people never got his name.

  • And people say John Mayer is the future of the blues, this video deserves another 100x views and 1million more likes, one of the greatest performances I have ever seen. Thank you Clapton for introducing us to this talented man

  • @GuitarMaster6567 thank Doyle Bramhall!!! i totally agree john mayer is good but this is that down home shit lol

  • @marovellia And Doyle is no slouch either..Gary is Awsome!

    best wishes

  • @GuitarMaster6567

i thought justin bieber is the saviour of the blues...

  • @GuitarMaster6567 . I agree with those saying we don't need to insult Mayer to compliment Clark. Clark is awesome but Mayer is amazing too.

  • @GuitarMaster6567 wasn't it doyle who introduced him

  • @hangdrumdude It's Doyle on the voice-over, introducing Mr. Clark Jr., but I'm guessing the OP was thanking Clapton for "introducing" him by including him in the festival. Supposedly Clapton hand-picks the performers for the irregularly scheduled Crossroads festivals, serving as curator.

  • @GuitarMaster6567 You're completely wrong. It's musicians like John Mayer and Glary Clark Jr. who'll help the blues live on! The blues doesn't care about the amount of views or listeners you have. It's here to make you feel the passion and souls of the musicians!

  • @andrew1schaeffer You're right.

  • wow

  • The guy in yellow seems to not know what he's doing up there. Also, Gary's got vampire fangs. This song got me.

  • @kyster17 I agree. The guy in yellow doesn't seem comfortable... looking around... "when we get paid?" or something... lol!

  • Just saw him at the Stone Pony, was awesome and a real treat as the crowd hadn't built yet.

  • @pd1030 I was there, I found out about Gary and how damn talented he was only days before, and I gotta say he absolutely lived up to his billing for me. He really is one of a kind in today's music world.

  • who ever disliked this song is a dick!!!!!

  • @wallace133133 Agreed. Great song and artist. Apparently, so far, 2 people have complete lobotomies.

  • who ever put thumbs down 4 gcj is a dick!!!!!

  • he does EXIST jackass you see him playin and killin your soul!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • who is that talking

  • MEAN!!

  • MEAN!!

  • 3:50~ dope shot with reflection. u can litterly feel his music

  • Gary Clark Jr. is a genius

  • pfouah...!

  • young guy with the old sound!!!! aaaaahhhhh ya boy...

  • I finally had a chance to watch the Crossroads DVD I got for Christmas in it's entirety this afternoon. I left the room and this song started...immediately I went to see who it was and went looking for more. This is a stand out performance at Crossroads for sure!

  • those boots are delicious

  • One chord for 8 minutes and I can't get enough of it! This is my favorite performance on the Crossroads DVD!

  • @anothermustang its 2 chords, and the low E string in between each chord on most parts

  • @theflyingdutchmanxD its one chord - A listen to the bassplayer.

  • @vibroluxor pretty sure its two, listin to the intro, you can hear the 2 chords more clearly in the intro

  • @theflyingdutchmanxD If you want to work out a tune, listen to the bassplayer, this will almost always be the purest form of the song. in this case the bassplayer never changes. he is pumping A throughout.

I will agree that the guitar is changing chord voicings - he's alternating between an Am and a Asus4. this is open A, A-C-E. the only thing you change is raise the C to D. try it. play 8th notes, use moderate palm muting, and only hit those 4 strings.

  • There is one perso who does not like this video... Is he/she crazy???

  • another reason to love clapton. he makes people aware of the good guys around like him

  • Im lucky im from austin texas, he's amazing!

  • Im lucky im from austin texas, he's amazing!

  • I also read about Gary in the WSJ , need to check him ouy !

  • Great review of Clark at SXSW in this morning's Wall Street Journal! Hadn't heard of him before!

  • Just saw GCJ last night at SXSW!

  • well Th'ts what we can call TALENTED PERSON!!! I first know this guy in "Honeydripper" movie e every since I've been searching for videos, music... I hope he come to Brazil someday

  • I had never heard of him till today while watching an episode of Friday NIght LIghts. And oh dear... he is absolutely fantastic!

  • One of the many perks to living in Austin... Gary Clark Jr. I remember watching him tear it up in Joe's Generic Bar back when his dad had to be there because he wasn't old enough to go alone. If you haven't seen him live before, put it on your short list.

  • no dislikes, as it should be

  • Saw him at Buddy Guy's Legends on Crossroads weekend. He was amazing. Wish he played some where other than Austin, TX. Would love to hear him again.

  • The guy is flat out awesome!

  • He Killed it!

    and NICE NECKLACE!

  • It makes me sick that little fags like the Jonas Brothers or whores like Britney Spears are out there making millions upon millions of dollars when a guy like Gary isn't even known.. What a wonderful voice and style this man has!

  • And the BLUES lives on. Thank you Gary. I'd be happy if I could play half that good.

    Hope he can now :)

  • @BryceShuster

I think it might be a Riviera. The pickups are the giveaway, but I could be wrong.

  • @aarlow nah bruh its a casino i researched it bcz i really wanted to know
