hey im trying to install linux mint 9 on my old laptop and it stays stuck on this black screen with 4 white dots i apears to be loading but its been over an hour. Any suggestions? i can get to the linux menu star linux, star linux in compababilit mode, check cd, memory test, and boot from hard drive
If you want to be able to dual boot, first make a backup copy of your windows OS, then FIRST install Linux, then install your Windows OS because I think Linux will ask you if you want to install your second OS for dual boot.
I need help, I installed Linux mint 7 just like you did except that I wanted to keep my current operating system which I did. Everything when well but when it restarted (after installation) it when straight in to my old operating system (WinVista). I Didn't see any Usplash screen or grub menu. Is there a way to force Linux to start instead of vista??? Thanks in advance.
Yea it is really good i used for a bit the only thing that I don't like is that is a pain installing programs that weren't meant for Linux and it won't always run windows executables (EXE). That's probably the only reason why I'm stuck with vista.
My current xp machine is currently broke. But if i downloaded linux mint, burned it to a cd, and booted it on my xp machine. Would it install linux on that old xp machine ?
Can i boot up the Linux mint cd after my Windows has crashed? Windows is still installed. but can i boot up the install for it just like i do with windows?
ive got ubuntu

it would install over it. creating a new machine without windows. being that its broke it wouldn't matter
jmosler9 2 years ago
actually it would format the drive and install. I had Vista on this one before i went back to Ubuntu and haven't been more happier with my machine

Insert Linux Mint CD, reset your computer, boot to your CD rom drive. On my dell it's f12 on the first screen to get to 'one time boot menu.'

and then do I have to completely reinstall a new version or can I directly upgrade from 9.04 to let's say 10.4 / 10.10 using the console ?

2 simples questions . When it'll be the official release? Were you use a system cam or a normal one?
