I have been with AMD for as long as I remember and I do appreciate a good OC board and chip, even though it's Intel. It does seem like a lot of fun trying to get these up to 5G(me being stuck at sub 4 :( )
@reach313 If you like the fun of overclocking then it's X58 all the way, but if you want very decent speeds with little effort(too little in my opinion), then sandy is the way to go. Both chips are going to deliver at a satisfactory level(i.e. max out all games), but it's up to you to decide how much you want to tinker with it. Look up the sandy bridge reviews(somewhere on the channel), see for yourself how easy sandy is and then decide if it's too easy. Also remember sandy don't do 3-chan DDR3
@reach313 You'll have good fun with the X58. A decent i7(920/930/950) will do the trick. Those will all do 4GHz with a decent air heatsink(of course the NH-D14 will give you that extra edge). As it is I'm still stuck with a Deneb core AMD CPU, so there's no chance of me getting anywhere past 3.9GHz with any stability lol
@reach313 I'm mainly with AMD for the great value they offer. Their chips may not be as good performers as Intel's, but they're certainly priced to match. I think they are getting close, however, with the new hex chips they introduce they have a good base to challenge the earlier i7 quads. Rumour has it they are also working on a system similar to HT to utilize extra threads, however it should be way more efficient than Intel's HT. Only time will tell.
@reach313 Only trouble is they can't take much more than 60*C(stock, near 3GHz models) or 70*C(stock, near 2GHz models), so I need a water cooling system for something Intel can do on air(both in OC and on benches) without HT and with the same cache(i.e. analogous models). I mean I'm running a Ph II 965 C3 at 3.9(ish) and I run as hot as 51*C with a 240mm EK rad and an EK Supreme HF block, cooled by 2 yate loons runnin up to 78CFM. I bet sandy will do 5G with that setup, but AMD is toast at 55*C
@reach313 Check the AMD product sheets, max temps are listed as either 70*C or 62*C. They like to be cold. the very same model 965 set a 7.something GHz record under LN2 or LHe, so I know it can do it, but I hit a wall at 4GHz, it just dies when it reaches 42*C. That's why Intel clock way better.
@reach313 The new Thuban core has been said to reach somewhere around the 4.4GHz mark, which is good for an AMD core, never mind a hex. The Phenom II 960 I believe is Thuban based, so you should get an even better clock out of that(as two cores are disabled). The new Bulldozer will do really good as well as it is 32nm based. Let's not forget Intel rolled out their 32nm line way far back. That's the reason they clock well. I bet their 45nm chips were just as bad as AMD's current line.
@reach313 No idea, personally I'm getting a Crosshair V when it comes out, selling the IV and getting the baddest Bulldozer I could get my hands on. Then there would be a point overclocking and having my water system. The alternative is of course to go Opteron, but they are downright expensive. One thing is sure though, they do beat the Xeons.
@233kosta ya i think i am going to wait till is see the specs of 1356 socket maybe it is alot better i do not know but amd is getting better and if the bulldozers are as strong as the i7 thats the way to go i think
@TheTrafficker85 1,000% Agree! My build is an X58 and I love it. Sandy Bridge hasn't been out that long and X58 has been out for a while and fully matured to the point where it has reached it full potential. Sandy Bridge is like a little toddler compared to the X58. ROFL.
@TheXtremeGamer90 to X58 indeed. But this is for benchers, like proper enthusiasts looking for every last MHz. Its not for n000bs or people that obviously dont understand that.
@JeromeRyan88 I just buy i7 970 and this is really impressive processor ! It's still expensive but performance are amazing !! I can wait to overclock this thing :D
Lmfao ye full size soon I hope. Mine will have to go on hold too. Bought a 120gb vertex 3 on eBay on Wed, box arrived on Sat, unfortunately that's all it was a box!! TTL you on holiday or something I am looking forward to my choc biscuits and cuppa with yout next video, seems ages ago since you had new content lol if you are on holiday then enjoy :) and sorry for disturbing you
@thunderflash55 lol was only a few days ago dude! Im just having some time with friends and family for easter. Not sure if Ill make a video for a week or so because of the work I need to do on the gigabyte.
For someone that overclocks and in competition tournaments its a nice board. As for me regular user its bad mobo... Seriously no features at all.. Not even pci-e 1x for sounds upgrade. I give 2/10 for features. It performance better be bloody good.
One thing we never hear about on motherboard reviews is how the sata ports work in the bios. Which ones can you boot from? are they all on the same controller? What raid do they support? Most x58 boards seem to have only a couple of sata 6gb ports but its never clear how they can be configured in the bios.
I'm not sure if you knew this at the time Tom, but at the Scan stand at Gadget Show live they were oc'ing a 990X on this board with LN2. I was there watching, they got it up to 6.1GHz then the system stopped responding.
do the onboard overclocking controls synchronize with the BIOS? I mean if I press the "4G" button, and then access my BIOS, will it read 4GHz of cpu clock? and the multipliers as well, what about them?
Think of this as the gigabyte X58 Superleggera/ Scuderia/ Spec V/ RS ... Strip everything out, give you that bit more power and charge you more... ohhh yeah
Tell me 1 thing, Why do any 1 need a CPU 3Ghz to 5Ghz, I mean now a days 95% of game is made for consoles then import back to PC, so bcoz of the console limitation PCs dont have to be high-end & OC monster to run a fking game. Unless next Crysis game is made for PC exclusive.
@DJShayper bad point bcoz again u dont need 3Ghz CPU OC to 5Ghz to use on video rendering softwares. it doesn't make any diference on Speed. & Latest video editing software incorporating GPU as video rendering device which far far better & faster than CPU. & I am also into video editing, I see 90% people using MAC when it comes to video editing.
@CJ2GAME Well then 90% of people are bandwagon hoppers. Yes, the mac has a much nicer user interface but I could build a machine for 1.5k that would be nearly 1.5 times as fast as a mac for that price point >.>
And this is an OVERCLOCKING ENTHUSIASTS BOARD. 99% of people don't need this, but for those people who bench haaaard this is perfect. I can't help but feel you have missed the point of this product..
@CJ2GAME I am sorry my Primary language is not English. but still u get my point, people use MAC for the software support not hardware. & yes for benchmarks OC useful. but U dont get my point here in my first comment I said OC is no need for gaming bcoz game developers are primarily make games for consoles & PC is way more powerful than any console, but still all this OC, & latest hifi hardware are getting wasted bcoz 90% games dont utilize powerful hardware.

Finally a motherboard that ticks all the boxes! It's LN2 time! :D
I just can't understand why that onboard audio and front panel audio is there, it just seems like something to keep "noob"/ "I got it because I can", tech fetish people happy...Haha
Yeah, Same here. Fall should be dope. BF3 might be out by then. All we need is better internet, The local connections are fine. But pinging out to servers. Could use work... At least there was a patch server.
@001alski He is known specifically for his thoroughness. If you dont like it scrub through the vid or piss off. Most people who watch him are here BECAUSE he spends extra time on the explanations. Go watch the Tiger Direct videos you you want something shorter, cause obviously this isn't for you.
@001alski we who subs actually are alright with it since he is very thorough, if you dont like it, then there are other channels, easy and simple as that :)
it seems the only way you could actually even challenge this boards potential is with LN2, even the most exotic watercooling setups wouldn't be able to cool the CPU enough to reach the clock speeds this is intended for...damn
hey guys, im lookin at mobos atm, and can't decide between the ASUS Maximus IV Extreme or the Gigabyte P67A-UD7-B3.. any opinions or advice is much appretiated :) thanks!
@Kdri21 both of them are good boards, but if you look at the reviews and everything the ASUS board seems to do a bit better in a lot of tests. Hope that helps.
I personally love everything about it except the fact that the onboard sound is generic, so I would need to use a PCI or PCI-E just for a HQ sound card which would eat up 1 or both of the bottom PCI-E which ruins TRI QUAD single GPU cards. Would have to get a dual GPU and a single GPU, but I think it could work. :)
@teletran8 its built for overclocking not a system build dude, thats why its all so cut back ;) TBH Im not even sure why it even has on board audio AT ALL!
Why a triple SLI bridge if the board supports quad SLI? Other than that, I can't express how dumbstruck I am with this board's awesomeness, both in features as in design, and I can barely keep myself from flying off to China to friggin GET ONE RIGHT F*CK'N NOW *drools*
Is it still good to buy the motherboard. Because someones want to sell it (non used) for 80 euros.. Should i buy it?

Stephenbriles 10 months ago
@Stephenbriles
Yeah, Same here. Fall should be dope. BF3 might be out by then. All we need is better internet, The local connections are fine. But pinging out to servers. Could use work... At least there was a patch server.
Velcrochickensoup 10 months ago
@Velcrochickensoup BF3 would be amazing, and ya pings sucked. So that was a disappointment. But it was still legit!
Stephenbriles 10 months ago
this would fit perfectly in an aerocool xpredator case

@GT5Enthusiast Haha good point.

Skip to 6:50 to skip the intro. And I still think I would have been more impressed if it was 1155.
djsi38t 10 months ago
Don't even think about not using ln2 for testing.Screw the noctua.
djsi38t 10 months ago
Dude get to the point enough B.S, 3 min of a you looking at the camera.
001alski 10 months ago
@001alski He is known specifically for his thoroughness. If you dont like it scrub through the vid or piss off. Most people who watch him are here BECAUSE he spends extra time on the explanations. Go watch the Tiger Direct videos you you want something shorter, cause obviously this isn't for you.
refboy4 10 months ago
@001alski we who subs actually are alright with it since he is very thorough, if you dont like it, then there are other channels, easy and simple as that :)
Styka 10 months ago
Should be a 1155 motherboard.
djsi38t 10 months ago
it seems the only way you could actually even challenge this boards potential is with LN2, even the most exotic watercooling setups wouldn't be able to cool the CPU enough to reach the clock speeds this is intended for...damn

hey guys, im lookin at mobos atm, and can't decide between the ASUS Maximus IV Extreme or the Gigabyte P67A-UD7-B3.. any opinions or advice is much appretiated :) thanks!
Kdri21 10 months ago
@Kdri21 both of them are good boards, but if you look at the reviews and everything the ASUS board seems to do a bit better in a lot of tests. Hope that helps.
MikeC3mods 10 months ago
wow awsome xD i love the colors....soon as you turned the box over it stung me lol its nice to see new colors for a mobo specially orange and black

LynxAdvert 10 months ago
Good Luck OCing that board Tim!!
teletran8 10 months ago 2
@teletran8 its built for overclocking not a system build dude, thats why its all so cut back ;) TBH Im not even sure why it even has on board audio AT ALL!
TimeToLiveCustoms 10 months ago 11
Can you use it with amd cpu?
OGRMaster 10 months ago
If I had a mobo like that the other half would be cranky for weeks.
AudibleOpinion 10 months ago
Why a triple SLI bridge if the board supports quad SLI? Other than that, I can't express how dumbstruck I am with this board's awesomeness, both in features as in design, and I can barely keep myself from flying off to China to friggin GET ONE RIGHT F*CK'N NOW *drools*
