@04warrior350 if u want to keep the fur no a good gun, but if your just want to have fun it would work great, but for long range i would go with a .223 or .243 even a 22-250 would work. faster guns when there running and long range, with big guns the bullets tend to drop
@04warrior350 I use a .270 when its real windy out but I dont take a shot at anything more than 100 yards. I prefer my Remington 700 in .243 for average days, but I also have a buddy that won't hunt coyotes without his .17hmr. I prefer a little bit larger round for a cleaner kill he likes his .17 because his hand loads are carrying some serious velocity. To answer your question no....a .270 isn't to large but in windy conditions please be very selective of your shots.

I love animals. I have a kennel with over a dozen rescued dogs. I cant count the cats we have. I raise cattle, sheep, meat goats and chickens. For years we have co-existed with the coyotes. Never once considered them any real threat...until lately. They have abused the welcome. Cats, chickens,I wont tell you how they did the sheep. @Cheevus Shotgun works great but I would keep shots not farther than 50 yards. Also use something larger than BB's. Shotgun slug would be dramatic and decisive. Any accurate rifle would certainly do the trick. Stay away from FMJ ammo.
I like a bolt action in .223-.270...270 being the largest I would go. I use a .243 and have had good luck over a couple years, but then again the coyotes are starting to overrun southern Cal. the quail population has taken a large hit, in my opinion because of the packs of coyotes.

i completely agree, these coyotes have killed many dogs and cats around my home, and in eastern washington where i hunt on cattle farms and they have killed anywhere from 40-60% of calf born each year. If you are ignorant of the reasons we harvest these animals then fuck off.
I agree with you... I live in western washington, and if you ask some farmers around here to hunt coyotes on their land some of them will pay you to kill coyotes on their land, because they are so much of a nuisance. And even if they don't pay you, they will gladly agree to let you hunt them.

Agreed. I have blown away my fair share of small furry woodland creatures in my time, but I have a hard time understanding why folks want to hunt predators unless they're killing livestock. Dad always drilled "don't shoot it unless you're going to eat it" into my head when I was a lad, so it's hard for me to relate to these guys.

However, after seeing and hearing the neiborhood cats get eaten (not bad cause they were wild) and a dog a street over get snatched off his porch (bad/sad) I spoke to the wardern and was schooled. Coyotes have no predators above them to control their numbers. Humans have to intervene or chaos will occur with other game (their targets) species and their #'s. That is not to say that we should make them extinct, but balance.
Dead ones can and do smell terrible but all animals smell terrible to me when field dressing or skinning in the case of coyotes. And some smell worse than others. I have known a couple people that have raised coyotes from pups and they are no different than a domestic dog. Trouble is they turn wild for the most part and it is best to kill them rather than turn them loose.
I live in northern PA and I tell ya what coyotes are a huge problem around here. There averaging around 14 deer per den and theres a ton of dens in mckean county alone. Pretty tough to hunt them around here because of the heavily wooded areas but if anyone wants a challenge and wants to kill some big coyotes please come here. They are even taking on new names, Brush Wolves, because of there size and cross breeding with dogs and wolves there no wolves in PA but hybrid coyotes have been introduced

i completely agree, these coyotes have killed many dogs and cats around my home, and in eastern washington where i hunt on cattle farms and they have killed anywhere from 40-60% of calf born each year. If you are ignorant of the reasons we harvest these animals then fuck off.

I agree with you... I live in western washington, and if you ask some farmers around here to hunt coyotes on their land some of them will pay you to kill coyotes on their land, because they are so much of a nuisance. And even if they don't pay you, they will gladly agree to let you hunt them.

I would offer to shoot coyotes for farmers and ranchers at no charge just to have another place to hunt. Nothing like a coyote fur lined coat to remind you to do you part to keep their numbers in check

Only if cooked to the consistency of shoe leather. Issue is they carry lots of diseases. But that said, their fur is good as long as you don't have a manged animal.

Ya same thing with the lynx. Just wear gloves, put them in a big black bag filled with some buhach and carry them out like that. Then after like an hour, maybe two you can take it out and all of the lice or fleas will be dead in the bottom of the bag.

Agreed. I have blown away my fair share of small furry woodland creatures in my time, but I have a hard time understanding why folks want to hunt predators unless they're killing livestock. Dad always drilled "don't shoot it unless you're going to eat it" into my head when I was a lad, so it's hard for me to relate to these guys.

However, after seeing and hearing the neiborhood cats get eaten (not bad cause they were wild) and a dog a street over get snatched off his porch (bad/sad) I spoke to the wardern and was schooled. Coyotes have no predators above them to control their numbers. Humans have to intervene or chaos will occur with other game (their targets) species and their #'s. That is not to say that we should make them extinct, but balance.

Dead ones can and do smell terrible but all animals smell terrible to me when field dressing or skinning in the case of coyotes. And some smell worse than others. I have known a couple people that have raised coyotes from pups and they are no different than a domestic dog. Trouble is they turn wild for the most part and it is best to kill them rather than turn them loose.

I live in northern PA and I tell ya what coyotes are a huge problem around here. There averaging around 14 deer per den and theres a ton of dens in mckean county alone. Pretty tough to hunt them around here because of the heavily wooded areas but if anyone wants a challenge and wants to kill some big coyotes please come here. They are even taking on new names, Brush Wolves, because of there size and cross breeding with dogs and wolves there no wolves in PA but hybrid coyotes have been introduced
