  • is this really a good gaming laptop cuz i want to play games with really good graphics but dont want a desktop and take up a lot of space

  • 17.7fps is no way near unplayable... I play sc2 on a netbook at about 14fps in combat and I manage fine

Also runs crysis on about 14fps and I play that fine to :)

  • Wow its loud! Does it over heat at all??

  • @MobileTechReview what driver version are you using?

  • Very expensive to what its really worth. HP needs to lower the price, increase videoplay back quality and it will be top class

    we want 16" Please !!!

  • we want 16" Please !!!

  • what game were you playing?

  • @bearmare it takes a gay to know about gays

  • @EyeYamAffaKingWeTodd So why are you asking? Advertising?

  • @bearmare nope dont swing that way.

  • Not bad.

  • @bearmare lmao

  • computer is great, but you cant play man!!

  • Hp Envy 15 vs the best Sony Vaio..... decisions, decisions...

  • @KnightMD HP!!!!!! all the way Im getting one! And A 17 inch one :D if they have one though.

  • does it get hot

  • does anyone know how this 4830 model compares with the new 5830 model?

  • The 4830 outperforms the 5830, but barely and solely because of drivers. The ATI 4000 series cards have very stable drivers. The 5000 aren't up to par. But the ATI Catalyst 10.3 update will give the 5830 an average of 10 fps over the 4830. Also the 5830 supports the new DX11 graphics api and gives better battery performance.

  • bullllshit, dont get ati. DO NOT GET ATI

  • What are you talking about? I already have ATI. My PC has a 4850 X2 running smoothly and maxing out everything. Got a 9800GT as my dedicated Physx card.

  • @bearmare

At least over population would no longer be an issue, because we all know how much thats helping the environment.

  • it's probably the best because you have it

  • nope, try to check on custom laptop such as notebook guru, kobalt, deviltech or malibal. They are way better than alienware m17x! Better specs for the same size, but as always; they all battery eater. All DTR are like that.

  • Alienware 17x or HP envy? Wich one!

  • @monstaslaya mobility or performance is more the question there.

  • i rephrase my question, Alienware 15x or HP Envy for great performance and okay mobility

  • i would probably choose the envy, it has great performance, and up to like 6 hours of batteri life.

The only minus the envy has from being a perfect laptop, is the disk drive. It can only use external disc drives, so if you plan using discs on the go, go for the alienware.

(personally, i almost never use discs, because all games, movies and other stuff are pirated, so you don't need a disc drive.)

  • well it really depends what u want... this is a laptop designed for being a desktop replacement and for being mobile... but the alienware is more of a hardcore gaming machines... I'd get this one

  • get hp if you like buying laptops from the company with teh highest failure rate.

  • @monstaslaya hp envy if u didnt just win in the lottery

  • I dont know wich to choos an alienware m15x or this one

  • I'd love to own one of thess! I only wonder if it heats up like most of HP's other laptops.

  • pretty soon when my online get rich quick plot starts working i'm goanna buy one of these lol

  • why are you gaming at 1920x1080, do u have superhuman vision? hi-res gaming is like running your car on wine...

  • @TehKashmir

If 1920x1080 is the native resolution, then anything else will look unclear.

  • @TehKashmir Because that's his native resolution? Dumbass on LCDs unless it's at native rez it looks like shit.

  • THis is my next laptop. If your a college student you get a discount for the Envy 15 @ about $1200. I was gonna get a MBP 15 but damn. Those specs for $1200 can't be matched.

  • @krjcook How? What can I do to get this discount?

  • @krjcook I have an HP Pavilion DV7 and I wouldn't trade it for a MacBook Pro. I love it.

  • For a non-gaming laptop, those are amazing framerates.

  • Is this the i7-720QM or the i7-820QM?

  • @rx4zyh 1.6 GHz is 720

  • Bullshit

  • thats not bad

  • 17.7 fps is not good at all.

  • For a laptop that's not so bad.

  • @NateN34 was that sarcasm?

  • @KayWildcat No, it was not. 17.7 fps is unplayable.

  • does it get really hot when you play games?

  • ok what about the envy 13..can that laptop run it as well?? even though its smaller..and can it run it as good as the 15..Thanks

  • No, it will not. It does not have the intel i7.

  • ok thanks

  • Just ordered mine, Beats Edition though cause I needed the headphones anyway.

  • does anyone know who it runs the sims3??

  • Ok just ran 3dMark on the laptop

I am running Win7 Home (Fully patched with all security updates including drivers, etc..)

Virus scanner is disabled and got the following scores:

    3D Mark Score P4098

    GPU Score: 3422

    CPU Score: 10065

CPU Heat peaked at 80C - Fans noise wasn't bad at all. I am not using this laptop for gaming but for customer demos and extensive use of VMware.

So far the laptop is what I expected.

  • Thankyou, but I just couldn't wait... bought one at the weekend, seems great!!!! LOL

  • And its great for games, too!

  • My 800 pounds laptop can't even handle this video.

Why do HP keep doing this to me?

  • Fucking awesome, but expensiveeee.

  • i just read on AMD website hd 4830 only have 128 bits of memory, but as for gtx 260m or gtx280m have 256 bits of memory.

  • If this baby come with nvidia gtx 260 or gtx 280, i will be the first 1 to order it.

  • Keep waiting. ; )

  • F...ing awesom man.. People are stupid who order alienware... Just stick with other customs.. THey are waay cheaper like yours..

  • I just ordered this laptop after reading a number of reviews and watching a few youtube videos. My choices were limited as far as what I was looking for - Fast, slim and able to support 8GB or more of memory.

I hope I made a the right decision!

  • I just got my envy and so far so good. The laptop does run hot just running normal tasks and gets hotter when pounding it.

Under normal usage (email, watching youtube, surfing the net)

    System Temp: 54 C

    HDD: 41 C

I will run 3D Mark on it and see what happens.

The power brick is at least 1/3 larger than the HP6210 brick.

A lot of HP bloat on the laptop.

  • What is "bloat"? excess software?

  • Yes its just a lot of HP software on the laptop. Its not all bad though. So far I'm happy with the laptop. I am going to run 3DMark on the weekend and measure heat under some real load. I will post whatever the results are.

  • Just posted some 3DMark results. I will be running some additional tests.

  • 1. This should just top my laptop now, 7805u. Gpu is a tad weaker but the i7 will make up the frames compared to my 2.26 duo.

    2. The guy is wearing a Harvard sweater

  • can't hear a thing.. and y is there no explosion effects on crysis? i wanna see the particle effects, blurs and glows all at the same time.. and the movie HD is a trailer.. that means the file wasn't very big right? no full movies? testing it on the jump to scene responsiveness.. but the machine itself is a beauty..

  • what on earth are you talking about

  • no i mean i just wanna know it's performance while handling massive explosions and stuff.. most pc's run smooth on light scenes but then sumtimes it lags when huge explosions (or any heavy war sequences) shows.. like when the guy threw that smoke bomb, i was expecting a frag grenade blowing up the insides of that house.. i wanna see how the Envy performs.. i mean i'm just curious that's all.. no biggie..

  • 2800$ :S but ...simply perfect exept.... no mic or backlit keyboard

  • or CD Drive of any sort, which is where I draw the line. HP got it ALMOST exactly on the dot.

  • y do they have to leave gaps... I DONT GET IT@!!@!@

  • @mcdudly00 idk, but if they make a 17" version with a blu ray and a battery that lasts at least 6 hours, I'm buying. Until that, I'm looking at a dv7t quad eddition.

  • External drive is included and it's one of the best external optical drives iv seen

  • Yes, but I would have MUCH rather had one of the best internal drives ive seen though, that's what bugs me. The standard is internal, and the only notebooks that can get arround it are called "net books". A internal drive wouldve made this 10x better, and a 6ish hour batter would have made it the best laptop ever. But, nope. Sticking with my dv7t qe

  • I can see what your saying. I guess its a matter of opinion however i do agree that an internal drive is a lot better.

  • On that note I would also like to add that they could (seeing how it's obvious competitor has a 17" version) make a Envy 17 that would probably alot enough space for a supermulti blu-ray drive.

  • Ya but HP is trying to keep it portable but like i said it's a matter of opinion.

  • how do you get that thing in the corner to come up on call of duty

  • reviews on the HP website stated that the computer runs REALLY hot..

that true? you guys said this computer runs cool..

  • it is a quad core in a 15.6" form factor what do u expect

  • damn, i can hear those fans running loud?

  • What are the framerates like?

  • @

    BeSweeeet

Look in the upper right of some of the gameplay videos and you will see an FPS counter.

  • I heard that the ATI HD 4830 runs a little hot. I was wondering if that was a problem while running any of these games.

  • We've played several game titles including Crysis. The notebook runs unusually cool for playing games like these demanding titles compared to other notebooks we've used.

If you read our full review on mobiletechreview, you will find we detailed the temp numbers for various tasks.

  • My Macbook Pro's 9600GT runs at an unacceptable 90 to 100c while gaming, it often shuts off during gameplay to prevent heat damage.

I just checked the temps posted by mobiletech, 48c while running Crysis is very very good! :)

  • Thanks for the info. I just wanted specifics so I could compare the Envy to my HDX 16t

  • is this laptop good?i mean,i7 man.sounds really cool.but is gaming smooth in it?and how is the price?

  • If you're looking for bang for your buck stay as far away from the envy as you can. They are luxury product. And their price:performance ratio is even worse than Macbooks. If you have unlimited money however you can't get any better (well actually you can get faster gaming lappies but not as portable).

  • @ipbalkenende So you've used one then? Curious to see where your info is coming from. Please also post some similar Macbook benchmarks to backup your statements.

  • he wasnt using turbo mode i think thats y crysis was low fps

  • if playing games does it really get hot.... because the fan is working toooo much on the video...

  • it would be great if u could run some more games like prototype.... street fighter 4.... gta 4.... modern warfare.... left 4 dead.... just to know little bit more about graphic card....... can u compare ati 4830 with nvidia 260m?????

  • which one do u think is better?

  • do you know if it has multi channel output for djs?????

  • I don't believe so, but I don't have any dj equipment to test it with to be sure.

  • thanks you very much for your time..... great laptop!!!!!

  • Getting this in December for my birthday cant wait!

Can you possiblly do a hands on review of the machine (battery life, more games, cpu performance, heats, personal opinion on if the laptop is worth buying)

    5/5

  • Lucky you!

We have an in-depth review published on mobiletechreview web site covering all that.

  • sorry for making alot of comments but it doesnt say anything about audio....

  • btw can u comapre this laptop to alienware m15x???

i was thinking to get either one of them

  • i wanted to ask you....... i like dj mixing i have traktor scracth pro software for mixing songs..... does this laptop has multi channel speakers..... imean u can basically listen two songs at a same time while one playing on external speakers and one on headphones...... i really like the laptop its this and amazingly fast...... if u can respond as quick as you can i would apreciate!!!!

  • am getting this laptop for sure

  • i7 quad core and ATI 4830 is already a lot of raw computing power for a laptop and it is definitely better than most of the laptops out there by far

  • the GPU is a tad weaker then my laptops now, but im hoping the i7 makes up for it.

Its also about 5 pounds lighter, half an inch thicker and about 2 inches smaller.

  • meant thinner =]

  • this is comparable to my laptop now, just 2 inches smaller and way better battery life, def getting this

  • As expected, Crysis is somewhat laggy in this computer

Quad Core is a good in its own way, but I'd rather get a faster Dual Core for the same price

  • Great... how good is the battery?

  • check out the full review which covers the battery.

  • it's too much money.

  • you're looking at 2k-3k depending on ur custom build

  • Full review posted. Visit mobiletechreview web site to read the in-depth review.

  • that was fun watching her play the game lol

  • Nice. Is this the i7 720 or 820?

  • i7 720QM.

  • ~1500 shipped on launch day with 25% bing cashback. Runs 2k normally.

  • explain please

  • HP ran a 25% coupon through BING cashback. Oct 18th (launch day). Might keep you head up for a similar deal Black Friday as last year they ran a 40% cash back on Black Friday.

  • wow thanks

  • How is the temperature while gaming?

I've heard that the fan is almost always on even when the laptops idle.

  • It actually runs very cool for a notebook with this kind of power. The fan doesn run while idle, and it cools down very fast. We will have an in-depth review covering this soon on mobiletechreview web site. The first look review coming today.

  • who said they only review cell phones you idiot??
