  • i like russian tortoise i am mongolia my tortoise name is Zog he s 20 years old

  • About 6 to 10 in in daimeter of the shell

I own one and they r so cute

  • FAKE! You don´t feed Russian Tortoises. Russian Tortoises feed YOU

  • I adore watching my russian tortoises eat; it's about the cutest thing ever!

  • You're quite right there, while plenty of people think of a tortoise as about exciting as a fish or a rock, an owner (although I thought of my Kazakh tortoise more as a family member) can find much joy in the everyday's adventures of their tortoise friend, from exploring a new room to noticing tricks as holding that leaf there at 1:25 and realizing how much of a very own personality each tortoise has.

  • Heh, i have same turtoise she's 14 but earlier when she was young she was exactly like your. Have fun with him/she. ;D

  • he is gonna hurt his shell having to rub agenst that rock

  • om nom nom nom nom

  • i really think it's cute :)

  • in Soviet Russia tortoise evolve into Blastoise

  • I lol when my cat jumps to me while I'm playing a computer game because then he looks at me like he's saying "Er..... That wasn't me why are you looking at me like that..." and then goes back to his chair and starts sleeping :3

  • well done gunman207, i knew there had to be someone who would make that fucking stupid soviet russia joke about this.

  • You can tell by turning him over in the sink and giving him a bath...his little thingy will stick out...also they are not rounded in the back but flat if it is a boy.

  • what is he eating?

  • Thats so ADORABLE!

  • We got ours a couple days ago, and he simply won't eat (we have provided a variety of what are supposed to be his favorites, but nothing). Doesn't drink either. Seems healthy otherwise. Any thoughts?

  • in soviet russa turtle feed u

  • what are you using as bedding and do you use d3 supplement?

  • what is that on the floor for bedding and can the tortoise live long in this condition. thanks

  • what does your tortoise eat

  • want one!!! :3 I had one....but my uncle let it out and he dissappeared!! :(

  • dude was your tortoise on icarly

  • funny.

  • lol.

  • mine wont eat anything but letuce help

  • @440876 if you feed certain reptiles like iguanas iceberg lettuce, they have a chance of getting addicted to it and refuse to eat any other veggie.. sadly this is fatal because iceberg lettuce has little to no nutritional value

  • ok im thinking About my tortoise mating but i alredy have a male and hes pulling scales off the girl! why?

  • what are u feeding him, he looks like he really likes it?! :)

  • just a question my turtle is really active but doesent really like getting wet what should i do and alsohow do you tell the difference between amale and a female and lastlywhen is the proper mating season? please answer^-^ thankyou

  • @232drago Our tortoise really hates being wet too. He doesn't even like drinking water. I think it depends on the climate they (or their ancestor) were born in. It is imaginable that if the tortoise comes from a very dry place, an inch deep water might mean the beginning of a flash flood. So I don't think anybody can change this (at least we haven't had luck). Tail length is the easiest sign to tell male(longer) vs female(shorter). Sorry, don't know much about their mating season.

  • @232drago you sure it's a turtle? turtles are 80% of the time in water. the rest is either laying eggs or basking.

if it's a tortoise then i don't think you have anything to worry about.. they're usually in dry areas in the wild.

  • @232drago Im not really sure about tortises but in turtles the position of the cloaca can tell you if its male or female. i think mine is male lol. The closer to the body, male further, female.

  • you are freaking luck to have that turtle tell me where you got it and tell me where id be looking for a turtle like that please

  • 1:37 "the hell are you staring at?"

  • i got a red eared water turtle......

  • I thank you hakugan for being so very helpfull for all those ppl here :)

Tortoises are some of the funniest pets xD

they have that angry look on their face and that laid-back boring attitude :D

it's so funny to see them chase stuff , real slow , thinking they'll get'm xD

second come hamsters i think , and third cats :p

  • i dont find it boring its more fun than watching my res destroy fish

  • i JUST GOT MINE TODAY YYAY!

  • if it bites you ....does it hurt

  • Why is my tortoise not like this i just got him and he is very nervious is he scared

  • @DarkxKarma i believe it may be individual personality. i have 6 russian tortoises and 2 of them were very shy at first. they do warm up to you eventually with regular hadling. :)

  • I want that turtle to give me head.

  • hey just a question, i fed my russian tortoise green mustard (which looks like a lettuce not really sure) and when it was eating, i saw some bubbles forming around his nose. I only saw it a couple times happening and it doesn't happen that often. Also the bubbles disappear quickly though. is that normal for it to happen?? o.o

  • chazz681> We see it often when our tortoise eats watery/juicy things. For example, if it is a tomato, you would see reddish bubble forming. He also sneezes if the bubble doesn't disappear right away. So I think it is normal, and seems tortoises do have a way/ways to coup with this issue.

  • What is the plant your tort is eating?

  • Is this some feeding enclosure specifically made so he can forage for his food? Sounds like a good idea to me that way the stuff my tortoise doesn't finish can be easily cleaned up and not lost under the cypress bedding. Or is switching them out of their normal enclosure something that makes them uncomfortable?

  • .he/she needssx bedinq.all russian tortoisessx aree supposedd tuu havee beddinqq.i'havee a tortoise named charlie:D

  • whoa.... where is that plant going?

  • i have one his name is Toby, he is my life!!!!

  • Totally awsome, Toby is the name to be...Mine is named Tobe. After my all time super tortoise Toby; he had real dog behavoir. He would always come running to greet you. And he loved taking showers, he would do a little dance when the gardener was watering the plants and him. I had to leave him with a new owner when I transferred from the dessert back to Holland. I didn't have a travel permit for him. Tobe or not Toby, Tortoises are great.

  • he/she needs bedding that he/she can burrow in

  • russian tortises burrow =o

  • wow it just sucked down the stick of veg.

  • is he young?

  • the plant just dissapears! lol

  • I'm getting 1!

  • so em i!

  • i hav 1 (:: georgee !

  • i love Russian Tortoises, there my favorite......

    :)

  • its shell looks like caramel mmmm caramel

  • wow he sure can deep throat that. he just munched it in like pulling a rope. lol cool tortoise. I want to get one they last around 50 years or more if taken very good care off

  • That was pretty boss

  • It just Scarfed down that stalk of stuff...thats what im going to call that leafy thing: stalk of stuff

  • Actually Russian Tortoises don't understand the concept of glass, so they tend to get really stressed if you put them in glass aquariums.

  • oh ok then thats good to know i would much rather him be happy than confused by the way do you know how big one of those cute little lettece processing plants price tags are i want one

  • you are not supposed to get it a glass aquarium!!! It drives them insane....

  • ok i kinda found that out from keeperofthecheese88 but thanks anyway

  • @lc1996rox is that with all tortoises and what else are you ment to put them in ?

  • @lc1996rox do you get them a cardboard box? kinda like a hobo?

  • watch his vids lol i think that was a temprary pen.. he treats that tortoise like its his son... btw pens/enclosures are the best things for a horsfield tortoise.

  • where i can get one russian tortoise? i have a water turtle but i ont one from floor =P...where u bough her?

  • I got it from a pet shop, I believe they also sell them online.

  • I just got a Russian Tortoise and he's not really coming out of his shell except to eat, or when I soak him. He also buries himself a lot. How long do u think it'll take for him to open up?

  • Do you know whether it is a male of a female? Male tortoises seem to be more active in general. Another factor that changes their behavior is the temperature and the season. The temperature is pretty obvious and they are most active around 28-32 degrees C or 82-90 degrees F. But no matter how warm it is, starting this time of the year, ours would become more inactive even at those temperatures above. Try handfeeding him/her with a treat, so that he/she will associate humans with tasty food.

  • Some of them never do! Go here for the best information ever! The site moderator, Joe, was the first person to hatch a Russian Tortoise in the U.S!

  • @dookadooka4

Russians do not only hibernate during winter, but also have a "low power" phase during summer unlike other European tortoise which only hibernate during winter. Maybe because the Russians naturally have nearly nothing at all to eat during dried out summer high times in Kasachstan and similar countries?

  • where did u buy it?

  • This is a nice video and you have a nice tortoise.

He certainly enjoyed his meal, how is he doing now?

  • u should change the bedding

  • why do some people says that their tortoise are overcalcuim and their shells are bad

  • " im know everyting" ???

  • boring but cool

  • I laughed at the end when he looked like "What?", Jethro to clear up your question, tortoises are herbivores (MOST, REMEMBER TO CHECK FIRST)

  • what is it eating????

  • i might buy one today

if its a boy i gonna call it Bill Slowsky

if its a girl i call it Karolyn Slowsky

  • i'm kind of a nerd because my russian tortoise's name is michealangelo but i mostly call him mikey

  • What kind of bedding are you using?

Doesn't look like something that's too good for it.

    I use coconut fibers :D

  • poor

  • no they dont bite only snapping turtles at the most.. i have one and i found it in the wild!

  • Do these guys bite ?

  • Of course! How else would they eat? Naw I'm just kidding, mine doesn't. But as long as you take care of it and nobody messes around with it to much, then they are pretty docile little guys.

  • They can bite, but normally only on accident, like if you're feeding them something with your hands and they accidentally bite.

If they know you feed it regularly, they try not to bite, but they still can.

  • Do you know how big these tortoise get im planning on getting one..

  • Russian tortoises get 2 like 9-11 inches I think

  • I bought a Russian Tortise yesturday. I believe they grow up to 6 inches.

  • that little nigger didnt even chew his food!

just downed a whole stalk in under 15 seconds

  • What plant is that?

please tell me because i have the exact kind of tortoise and i always give him cabbage and lettuce but im trying to feed im something else so...

  • I think it was sow thistle. Dandelion is another plant that most Tortoise like. Some on-line stores sell "Russian Tortoise Seed Mixes" which is a mixture of fast growing weeds that they eat. you can look up the seeds that are mixed in these products and go out to find them in your neighborhood.

  • It's called Rucola.

  • what did you tie the greens with?

  • Soooo cuteeeeee.

  • hi william i am in your 6th grade class

  • lol

  • you and your tortoise have been through so much together, through feeding time to being a once in a while ninja! it's going to be awful when he kicks the bucket ='(

  • Oh my goodness! Your tortoise is ADORABLE! Especially the end, where it was looking around... XD

    Cuutee!

  • I like this a lot, but I have a question. Seriously, can you actually pet a tortoise? Like, hug it and stuff?

  • Well I haven't had many turtles/tortioses, but from what i've seen if it grows to like you i'm sure you can.

  • i just bot 1 frum a petco and i put it in a sort of black water trough about 3 ftlong and 2ft wid and a little over a foot tall and i coverd the inside with coconut bark is that good enuf?

  • i was wondering if anybody here knew if there was a differance between a russian tortoise and a horsfield tortoise or is it simply just a different name for the same breed like a german shepard and an alsation dog?

  • gotta love those russian tortoise. I've read that they make perfect first time tortoise pets. How much did the little fella cost you and where were you able to purchase it from?

  • We got ours in Japan, but in the US, they go for little less than $100 at a Petco (it is probably better to get them a pet store with somebody who knows stuff about tortoises)

  • thanks. I'm currently in Taiwan at the moment so trying to locate a Russian tortoise has been rather difficult. I am considering importing one from Petco when I return to California for a month but I'm worried if it will stress out the tortoise when traveling.

  • Wait! Before you bring one from California, you should check out various laws + rules in bringing in & out these tortoises between US and Taiwan. They are listed in CITES so crossing borders is a big problem. I can't remember the details, but I think you have to be able to establish that you had the particular tortoise(s) as a pet for some period of time (six months?) in order to cross borders. A medical record by a vet is one document that supports this claim.

  • thank you hakugan, i'll check to see the regulations first for both the US and Taiwan law in regards to importing reptiles.

  • I love your tortoise it's so cute.

  • doesnt even chew it scared me thought it would chock

  • how old is your turtle
