  • 5* nice nile

  • Poor pinky! Why does everyone love to see pinky suffer?

  • no its not pivot ornates have pink tounges and around five stripes

  • that an ornate?

  • teste di cazzo

  • lol whats wrong with reptibark genius?

  • lol cant you see. Kenshinsgirl18 obviously has no idea what she is talking about. Any person with common sense knows you cant feed any reptile dogfood alone. She doesnt even have a nile monitor. Id even bet she doesnt work at a petstore either.

  • And did I see you say you feed it dog food to tame its aggression? YOU BOUGHT A NILE MONITOR! WTF!? Its GONNA be aggressive! Thats its freakin NATURE! Its not a lap animal, its a wild animal, ok? If you want something without aggression, get a hampster, dont debilitate a monitor.

  • Your right its no lap puppy BUT it is possible to tame nile monitors you need to hold it everyday BE GENTLE with it let it climb on you in the bathtub let it know who is feeding it.

  • Get its heat up. Get it some real freakin food. Get it some good substrate. Get it out of a glass tank, if thats what its in... oh, btw, within the 2nd year, that animal should be in an enclosure AT LEAST...ill say again... AT LEASTTTT 8' x 4' x 4'.

  • People are arguing about this for one reason you naive twit: THEY DONT WANT YOUR ANIMAL TO SUFFER ANYMORE! Get it something to burrow in so it can feel safe, not "jungle mix"... christ. Dirt costs less than $2 a bag for what you need, the stuf without all the stupid fertilizers and manure. And besides that- Im from Pittsburgh Pa and we've got alotta nasty environmental problems, but I could STILL take 30 minutes, find a good, deep strand of woods and go back to find a clean creek bed.

  • (135-150 basking/ 85-90 ambient day; drop those by 10 degrees at night [mind you, these are SURFACE temps for the basking areas, not AIR temps]). Thats what you want in your cage, no less. If your animal has survived this long, on 3 years of dog food, it must be a real fighter. Get it mice, dog food is NOT a good equivalent and no matter where you heard it was, you and they, are wrong. Maybe as a supplement, but not alone. Even mice alone arent a balanced monitor diet!

  • Do some god damned research! You cant feed a Nile exclusively on DOG FOOD!! Seriously, are you really trying to say that you think your ways are right, despite the advice of people that actually know what theyre talking about, not from 8 years of experience with 1 monitor, but from decades of experiences with thousands of monitors of god only knows how many species, that YOU ARE WRONG. Get that poor lizard some dirt, get his bloody temps up.

  • What a stupid argument.

  • I love how a simple suggestion on a random YouTube video can start a fucking war. Everyone's a fucking critic, trying to tell everyone how everthing should be done. Like they're fucking King Shit on Turd Island.

I'm not going to answer anymore of your questions because it's like beating a dead horse now. There's no point.

BTW...the "suck it dry"...4 letters. ATHF. Figure it out, genius.

  • Why are you still trying to argue with me? You say I sound like and immature retard, but when I just suck it up and try to end the whole thing, you insist on continuing. A mature adult would have simply put something along the lines of "That's fine with me. Bye." It's nice to see just how mature for my age I really am. Although it was silly of me to argue in the first place.

  • :P I'm bored with this silly argument/conflict/debate/WHATEVER. I've been using the same methods for 8 years and for 8 years they have worked. I don't need to continue this futile attempt to support my methods, because everyone is different and everyone does things their own way. This ends now. Toodles!

Oh yeah...and suck it. Suck it dry. :D *giggles*

    BYE!

  • Also...I live in Baltimore city in butt-fuck Maryland. Where do you think I'm going to find a "dry river bed" here?? Or even one that is clean enough to trust in my monitor's tank??? Don't you think I would rather be getting my own dirt instead of PAYING out the ass for it? But there is just so much pollution here, I wouldn't dare risk it.

  • ALL the reptiles and birds in the store were BRED by us employees!!!! And that's the way it's been done for 40 years. I am the only one there currently that has been able to succesfully breed iguanas repeatedly and bring babies into the store. Not to mention the dozens and dozens of water/nile monitors, bearded dragons, ball pythons, kingsnakes, milksnakes, ratsnakes, redtail boas, mali euromastyxs and such that I've bred. Please don't take me for an idiot when I know what I'm talking about.

  • Ok...and you're not Frank Retes, so how do his accomplishments apply to you??? And umm...yeah, I can see that you don't realize by now that we're not your regular run-of-the-mill pet shop. This isn't like a fuckin' PetCo or PetsMart. There are people here that KNOW what they're doing.

  • Yes, monitors need whole food, not unbalanced food (dog food, etc). The reason your monitor "mellowed out" is because he is unhealthy, dog food is crap, he willl die young. That canned "monitor food" is just as bad. A 130-150 basking spot is good, along with yes, 2 feet of dirt. Bark sucks. 2 inches sucks. Your husbandry most likely sucks. I'm sure you could be a good keeper if you get it better living conditions.

  • While I'm not trying to argue with you, I must disagree. My monitor is a good 7 years old and really did all his growing after I got him from my late grandfater 5 years ago. He's been on dog food for the past three years and still is beaming with energy and is a very healthy weight. He's just not aggressive anymore. I fill baby wading pools with water and he LOVES it, I'll let him free roam and he just does his own thing and goes back in the tank calmly.

  • Kenshin, ur a baffoon. Jus cuz you take an animal and break him in, doesnt mean it's the right way of minding them. Any animal will get accustomed to how it's treated. The point is, you're not bringing the monitor up in a natural state.

  • Also...I would definitely not wanna use a 130-150 watt bulb in a tank that is hardly 3 feet tall with two feet of dirt. Let's see...3-2=1. Yeah, that would be bad. And I can't afford a larger tank at the moment. Like I said before...I'm not made of money. I still have bills to pay.

  • As for the substrate and their source of security, that's what hide boxes are for. It's a lot cheaper than buying enough dirt to fill a 150 gallon tank with two feet of dirt, which is what I have my monitor in...I'm not made of money ya know!!! Also...with the dirt being so high up and close to the top, my heat lamp would burn my lizard if I were to use a high enough wattage to keep the tank itself warm...let alone all that substrate!!

  • I never said it wasn't good...all I said was that it made MINE much more aggressive and that after I started feeding it dog food regularly and mice rarely...he mellowed out. My reason for the dog food is just that! Aggressiveness is an important factor when it comes to handling a fuckin' 4 foot monitor.

  • I'm sure. You're right...we know NOTHING about "proper reptile husbandry". That's why our store has been in business selling reptiles, small animals and fish for over 40 years, and it's also why I get constant phone calls every day from people asking me questions about their reptiles and people thanking me for the great advice. Just shove it, dude.

    Suck it dry! XP

  • just because u say your an expert doesnt mean its true jackass

  • actually it's better to feed it canned MONITOR food. It's food specifically made for monitors so that you don't always have to feed them mice. You can also feed it pre-killed mice and rats, just make sure you give it plenty of exercise and balanced nutrition.

  • And 2 feet of dirt?! You're insane!! Why not just fill the whole TANK with that shit and bury it alive?! I think what you meant to say was "2 inches of BARK". (A.K.A. - Jungle Earth)

  • Also...he wasn't "playing with it" or "kicking it". We was simply moving the mouse so he could bite it at the throat. It's instinct and common sense. He bites it's throat hard enough so the mouse can't breath, then it dies.

  • Oh yeah...I'm definitely stupid. That's why I work at a pet store and take care of dozens of reptiles 6 days a week. I have people telling me every day how nice their pets are that they bought from the store and how I did such a good job taming them and getting them used to being handled. BTW...I feed MY 4 foot nile monitor dog food regularly and he's the nicest lizard I've ever worked with. But he only started to mellow out after I stopped with the mice.

  • Has it affected his health at all? Cuz I hear dietary changes can seriously affect some animals...

  • Not at all. He LOVED the dog food. I'd fill his whole bowl full and it would be gone in 10 minutes. Every once in a while we give him a mouse just as a "treat" or whatever you want to call it. But no, he's actually healthier and happier now. Also...if you're feeding your reptile any kinda live or frozen food...don't feed them in their tank. It's not safe and it only makes them more tank aggressive.

  • nice lizard man...real nice!

  • Lol shut up its nature.

  • LOL...yeah. Nile Monitors are wild. Just for future reference, as it gets bigger and you start to feed it adult mice, it will start to get a bit more aggressive. Try not to make the mice a regular part of his diet. If he starts to get really mean, try to feed him regular canned dog food. I've found that they love the stuff and since feeding my nile monitor the dog food, he's mellowed out A LOT! Give it a try.
