I mean, I just wanna go back to this moon thing... As you might already know, the moon's gravity controls the tides, so a sudden decrease in the moon's gravity - say, by Eggman FIRING A GIANT SPACE LASER AT IT - would cause the tides to go berserk; the resulting storms and tidal waves would make Hurricane Katrina look like a lawn sprinkler. Eggman has a 300 IQ, so he knew exactly what sort of body count his moon stunt would rack up...

...and he did it anyway. AND LAUGHED ABOUT IT.

Actually his name has always been Robotnik, even one of the Sega worker's said in an interview that his name has always been Robotnik, but for some strange reason his name is Eggman in the first game in Japan. So in conclusion, His name is and will always be Robotnik, Eggman seems to be just an alias

Fun Fact: Robotnik had ALWAYS been known as Eggman in Japan from Day 1 on the genesis but when Sonic 1 came to the USA they changed it to Robotnik, it wasnt til 1999 when Sonic Adventure debuted and renamed him Eggman but his full name to make both Japanese and US fans happy is Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik so "eggman" is simply a nickname or 2nd alias now but he embraces the name and made it his own >:]

Just as good as the original song. The sound from 0:48-1:00 sounds oddly heroic for a villains theme song, showing that Eggman isn't ALL evil and has a lot of character depth. The Doc is the best video game villain ever!
