Thanks for posting, great video & photos; just saw a vid on this plane in flight at an air-show (somewhere in Germany, I think) restored & air-worthy. Thanks for posting, cheers.
Nice that they went through all of these efforts to recovery that aircraft. Too bad that they did not bother to have aircraft specialists nearby, for they would not have ruined the plane by putting it down on the edge of the ponton then. They cut that part of the video out which shows how the entire aft fuselage gets torn off and sinks again ...
What I find so remarkable is the strength of the plane itself. We're talking decades of decay underwater in a fraction of normal gravity. Then a big trimotor plane is asked to put up with normal gravity long enough to be lifted out of the water and placed on the ground. Sure, they spread the straps out across the wings, but that's still ALOT of stress. Wow.
Let's see Greece? I'm guessing used by the Fallschirmjager durring the 1941 invasion of Crete. Hope they found the crews' relatives to return the remains. Great video!
Your telling me they didn't have the means to get a fuselage other then by getting one off of the bottom of the ocean?? for that specific plane type?? I don't know a lot about planes are they hard to find??

The remains of the flight crew which were sent for DNA analysis in order to find any living relatives. This palne is partialy restored at the Greek airforce museum at Tatoi(Dekeleia)
During WW2 the Ju-52/3m was a one-way plane. The operational task stood in the foreground for which Auntie Ju eventually has to be sacrificed. For example during the fights around Narvik for the operation Weserübung in April-may 1940 30 Ju52 transported mountain fighters to Narvik and landed on a frozen lake nearby. The pilots crews returned with 2planes which were refueled with the remaining gasoline of the other Jus. During the following thawing periof those were sunk to ground of the lake.
Hey. Very interesting video, thankyou. Moreover, even more thanks for using an unobtrusive instrumental soundtrack - and not employing the usual cheesy music that most morons insist on ruining their videos with.
Are there even any parts that are usable or are they just used for patterns to fabricate new parts.I have done Cessna Caravan crash recovery from salt and fresh water and the water usually does a number on the planes.
Cool, i would really like to see one of them raised one day. Its a pity they were scuttled but if there was no further use for them at the time, thats what happened.
I'm going to go back soon to take some video and then see if anyone wants to lift one. If they are serious about it then I would give them the positions.
Hey ,Iwould love to know anything you know of ww2aircraft wrecks and where they are especially allied aircraft,my dream is to find people to raise the rite aircraft
Very nicely shot, edited and audio mixing! Thanks, good subject matter also. Is anyone ever going to lift that PBY out of Loch Ness??? Cold fresh water is the best.
I know this sounds silly, but I heard that nobody wants to lift that thing because they are afraid of the stupid loch ness monster, which is rediculas. The loch ness monster doesn't even exist. I anyone wants to go lift that thing, I can get them on a lifting ship!
Pretty awesome stuff. What was the underwater footage shot on? I saw a similar aircraft in the Munich Tech Museum.. pretty impressive for it's time! Great work!!
They dismantled it in location and transferred it for restoration. The plane was meant to go into a war museum... nothing has happened yet... thanks for watching!
why didnt they use this equiptment to raise the titanic
mrtrainboy019 7 months ago
@mrtrainboy019 lots of reasons-
1.costs to much
2.humans cant go that deep
3.its soo far rusted if it touches the surface it will fall apart
4. its too heavy, unless you cut it up then what the point

Why did they go to all this trouble when they could have asked Aquaman to get some whales and a few octopi to help? I guess they didn't think of it.
