Very terrible idea. I have worked in a medium-maximum state prison for years and have seen it all. The only prison that really works is one that keeps offenders busy all the time, accountable for their actions, and enforces strict and unbending rules. It is simple, inmates are given and inch and they take a mile. Criminal thinking is embedded in their minds and most cannot turn their lives around. Sad but true fact, most people end up going back to prison.

I am a correctional officer at a medium-max state prison. Webcams in prisons = BAD IDEA.

1. These are inmates and are in prison to be punished, not pampered.

2. Webcams would be abused, just like every other privilage already in prisons

3. Solitary Confinement is one way to keep extremely dangerous individuals from hurting others and/or themself

4. Their 'buddies' generally get them in trouble in the first place, old relationships like these are encouraged to be dropped to deter further...

I have been to jail many times in the past for drug use. Thankfully I finally got off drugs and have stayed out of jail because of it.

There is no way the jails are going to give inmates computers and webcams.. You don't even get to use a phone in jail whenever you want to and when you do use it , it's when "they" decide you can and it costs the person you are calling $15 to $40.00 for a 15 minute phone call. They make a lot of money off phone calls.

They are obvoiusly in jail for fucking up in the first place. Inmates dont deserve these things. Webcams are fucking luxuries! I dont even like the fact that taxpayers pay to house and feed these idiots. Its estimated to cost roughly 50K a year for one inmate,yet we have people busting their asses just to earn a little over half of that, who feed families on that. Families should pay to feed inmates and buy luxuries like pillows and blankets in prison. None of us are given shit for free!

Prisoners have entirely too many rights as it stands now. When they have more protection by law than their victims, something is wrong.

The new modern jails are nicer than that of most homes in America. These prisoners should be placed in tents in the middle of the desert surrounded by barbed wire and guards with high power rifles.

. We have 2 million people serving away their lives in a prison. 2 million that will most likely be released into society one day(besides life sentences). Do you want them coming out amped up and angry, hating life and looking to not respect anyone? Or how about they come out a little calmer, with rehabilitation, connections with people maintained, giving them hope on the outside. Its risk vs reward. The potential upside to this idea is tremendous.

I'm all for our prisoners being more comfortable and not completely isolated from the world. I often watch vids on prison life and the programs that are being implemented to give them valuable skills, education, etc.I even think they should get too have sex with wives!! Yet, many of them can't be trusted with such vast freedoms such as complete access to the internet. Please kno, I care deeply for those in prison! Yet, it's prison and it's not supposed to be a "cool" place. That's all I'm saying

I think the world has too many cameras all over the place on our streets and highways. I say why isn't our 4th Amendment Constitutional right against unreasonable searches not being enforced? Why is privacy not a priority issue worthy of attention anymore within our society?

Suppose someone put web cams in the outer portions of the living quarters of prisons and on the workers so they could get vollunteer eyes on the facility from the web. That way if or when they jam cell phones theyd have security. But the should limit many hand signals that problem inmates could use to broaden their umbrella of power on the outside.

this is an awesome idea unfortunately solitary confinement is punishment inside of punishment thats the point..its a severe time out.. if u put a web cam then its like killing the whole point of solitary confinement...u have an awesome idea, again, unfortunately that won't probably happen till a like 50 years from now..and thats if we start now. :) oh and one last thing @ 1:33 it looks like u had real bad ADD lmmfo srry im add so i notice that stuff lol

i am not in the law system, but i can say that a prisoner, would most likely not get acces to friends, or maybe a few friends would be possible, one can hope for sure =)) but it can give problems in cases, this is why friends are hard =))

but for basicly all the other stuff you have a VERY good point =))
