Hi Ableton, Very interesting work! It's fun to work with our MOTU when it comes to producing our music. I love the EQ'ing part. That is my speciality. I have very sensitive ears. When I was a kid, both of my eardrums broke due to ear infections. Ever since then, they have been ultra sensitive for frequencies. I guess I was fortunate. Most people lose part of their hearing.
But... since I didn't, I make use of my gift! Along with my bass playing! \m/ Keep up the great work Ableton!
HELP!!! when i play a song i just put together it speeds up really fast! how do i slow the song down to my liking??? please explain!!! detailed!!!!!!!!!!!
@AlWasHere1; PROTOOLS HD is what I use, but it's extremely expensive. But since I also have the three programs you listed, out of those, I'd chose, FL Sudio Producer Edition. It's an excellent midi software.
what really makes me mad is that you have to have money to put these gadgets or else everything wont be as easy, it really sucks to want to make the music in your head but it just doesn't work out for you because you dont have equipment..or the money for it.
if you buy ableton on the online site or say same with Massive and you download it too that computer if you get a new computer later can you re download it from the website on that other computer without paying???!!?
if i make a song in Ableton live and saves it as "project" , but how can i get it into a Mp3 file? >_> how do you transform it into mp3? if for example i wanna send it over to a friend so he can have a listen.
@Smokieys All you need to do is go to export audio. When you save it, it literally just saves the live set. If you export it, it takes the audio and makes it a regular playable audio file. You can specify file type, depth, etc. Hope I helped! XD
Let's say you're a total newb to ableton. You downloaded a free trial, messed around on the program, went to help view and watched the tutorial videos and still feel lost. What do I need to do to figure out how to work this piece of awesomeness?
i have live 8 lite(came with focusrite),im recording mostly audio and fake drums on 1 track,,ok so with a couple vocals, guitars etc,,i run out of the 8 tracks,,my question seems simple but i still havent seen the answer."does live intro have more than 8 tracks"?not 8 scenes times 8 tracks for 64..blah blah,,i need more than 8 tracks
I got myself cubase 5 over this a couple of years ago but now i'm thinking of getting ableton as it looks immense, was just wondering if anyone could tell me the main differences? like i'm still unsure because i don't want to start production all over again, how long does it take to grasp ableton when changing daw? thanks
@serpz123 the transition is pretty painless..if i were you i wouldnt drop Cubase, just use it along side Live in Rewire mode. there are so many tutorials on youtube..you'll be up and running in no time..i personally think Live is the easiest to get to grips with..so if you've been using Cubase it should be a very easy for you....with Lives apc controllers and the like..Live is truly a sonic Weapon.
i maybe getting ableton becouse ima work on school maybe so i can work on my song at home i already have 1jear knowledge on fl studio and i know almost every thing about it but does somebody has some tips for me for ableton srry im dutch
Hey guys. My name is KuBe. Im a new Miami DJ Trying to make a name for himself. *Please Help support.* Any help is appreciated. If you do, then If I can climbt to the top I wont ever forget you did. Ive released the very first song on my KuBe EP and there will be more shortly to come. Thank you again
Haha, I was watching this vid at the part where Jazzy starts talking, and I was accidentally pressing keys on my keyboard with my leg, so this stupid chord was playing the whole time, and I'm like "What a dumb idea to put that one chord in there for half the video." Then I moved my leg and I'm like, oh. lol. cool story.
@tomskipomski If you're talking about recording/mixing, then yes. That requires a phenomenal amount of skill.
This, however, is just someone lazily finger-painting with preloaded samples. No wonder so many hip hop and "electronic" artists talk so highly of this program.
@samisyosam is wondering why you put electronic in inverted commas?!...and my friend its all about the music...if you can create what you want using arpeggiators or by lazily finger painting as you put it then why not?
@tomskipomski I know of many synth artists who write all their music from scratch. I know a few who actually write their own programs from scratch. I can't think of a single one of them that would stoop to these levels.
To slap together ideas that other people compiled is like making spaghetti with canned sauces and calling yourself a chef because you added some cheese at the end. "Look, I added cheese to it! There wasn't cheese there before!"
you're right, but this allows for somebody like me who has absolutely no musical knowledge to build songs, and make it on the fly as well. What more can be said? Ableton saw the hangups of cubase and others, and supplied an amazing product to the world
@samisyosam@samisyosam You do know ableton is one of the leading programs that many producers and artists use, successful ones at that, you seem to be dissmissing him but you got to take into consideration this is just a 12 minute youtube video compromise is neccessary this is just a tutorial/promotional video. I guess you never used ableton.
@samisyosam you make yourself look like a big joke with a comment like that. it seems like you have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what composing means. so dumb omg haha its amazing.i cant believe you actually have two thumbs up on that comment. like who in the world could ever take you seriously...
does the cartoonish display look make it that it uses less cpu? it seems that it's not as cpu demanding as sonar which has a higher resolution display.
@CKponysongs Lol I know they are both beast I was just saying cus the interphase looks really similar. But I have been wanting to get into more dubstep material. It's just really hard to get used to something completely different
I have headphones on, and the first 3 seconds of this video scared the shit out of me. I started this video and switched tabs, and I thought a jet flew over.
this stuff sounds so cheesy. like it sounds professional but at the same time so cheesy and cheap? maybe thats just the subtle softness of the genre idk
@axlrod05 That's true of all DAWs. That's because they're using built in stuff which is never going to be on par with third party synths and VSTs. Anyone who knows anything about producing music knows that this software is all about the workflow, organization, compatibility, stability, and features... not the sounds it comes with.
@Sr7Sr7Sr7 true. but logic has very very high quality native plug ins. but yeah ableton is a great daw for what it is generally used for. i like how you subtly tried to call me a newb.
fuckry this man you aint even do that last part on the computer using the program buttons so we can understand what you are doin you usin that akai i dont understand!
This isnt music..Its computer geeks pressing buttons..learn to play a guitar, take drugs, fuck women, do gigs in a room with hardly anyone there.. do drugs.. write a song about something that you experienced along the way! this isnt music! what does it say?
@BruisedArcade09 Do you do 3/4ths of those things? No So STFU and stop trying to Troll. Trolling means something has to be decently true you dumbfuck.
@BruisedArcade09 Music is anything, it could be the natures sounds to the rambling of the people on a train. Music is what you make it to be. This has a steady beat, Some may call it music. So next time you wanna fight throw your gloves on man.
@Matashi911 Like the comment above with 54 thumbs up...it's porn music! I agree with some of the things in your comment.. music is anything.. but people who pass them selfs off as musicians just by pressing some buttons does my head in.. anyone who can afford this sort of equipment can make these sounds...It takes talent to learn to play an instrument and write original stuff..It takes years and years of pratice..not a flick through a manual...believe me! Peace
@BruisedArcade09 that's load of bollocks. do drugs...make music....do drugs. the only thing i did while on drugs is.........get more drugs.....and find out the most creative of ways to acquire it. my music took a back seat
can anyone help me out im looking for a software that i can make all my drums and bass for when i.play gigs ill have a set tempo in the drums and then i loop and play my other instruments over it live. I just need something simple and easy to use, ill also be using a midi keyboard and mpd 18 to create the beats. I just dont want to spend alot of money on something i cant use.
@dakidrick At first i thought that ableton was a total mindfuck. I did not know how to do anything. I used to use fl studio. trust me, i played with ableton for a day and learned the basics. That paved he road for me and opened up a world of possibilities that Fl Studio just does not have. Music sounds crisper and cleaner, and everything might not be as up front as FL but when you find it, ableton will make producing a lot easier. Peace
to be fair, abelton is good but when i make music i use more than just 1 program, last song i wrote i used Reason, FL8, LSDJ, and Abelton :) abelton is good and its very ope, but i am still to find a program that does everything in 1 package.
I need help. I have some Vst's and when I set them to their sound, they play. But when I press the stop button and then the the play one again, the vst resets to its default sound. can anyone help me with this?
i own both propellerheads reason and ableton live and honestly i find it more easy and intuitive to make music in reason. though ableton offers some stuff that reason doesnt incorporate like a sampler.
@Versus61 Live is indeed fully rewirable; both as a master and slave. I do agree that if you only use Live as a sequencer or such that its not very feasible. But if you're fond of some of Live's samples or if you also own one or more instruments then it could be a nice combination.
@ShelLuser Why is it not practical as a pure sequencer? I use Logic and I am unhappy with the totally counter intuitive midi facilities. I will switch over completely unless someone can tell me why ableton is inferior as a sequencer.
I mean have fun, dig music, gig, noodle, twitch, flick, whack and toss off, but for fuck's sake don't call yourself a musician! Unless you're exceptional, I suspect you know as much about music as you do quantum mechanics!
@thrunobulax1 You don't need to be the best at making music to be called a musician. If you love what you do, and wanna do it for a long time. Then you can call yourself a musician.
ey guys!:) should i get fl studio or abelton live? i want to make music like deadmau5, lots of people say fl studio, and lots of people say abelton. what do you guys think?=o
@zipproductionz In my personal opinion, Fl studio is more user friendly and is easier to become accustom too, but Ableton allows to go more in depth with your song and allows for more possibilities, but is harder to use

Just stick to fl studio... why make life harder?
dakidrick 4 months ago
@dakidrick At first i thought that ableton was a total mindfuck. I did not know how to do anything. I used to use fl studio. trust me, i played with ableton for a day and learned the basics. That paved he road for me and opened up a world of possibilities that Fl Studio just does not have. Music sounds crisper and cleaner, and everything might not be as up front as FL but when you find it, ableton will make producing a lot easier. Peace

Really nice song..

i own both propellerheads reason and ableton live and honestly i find it more easy and intuitive to make music in reason. though ableton offers some stuff that reason doesnt incorporate like a sampler.

why again do I use Cubase over Live?
Versus61 6 months ago
@Versus61 Why don't you use Cubase /with/ Live ?
ShelLuser 5 months ago
@ShelLuser How? is Live Rewireable?
I think because its not very flow creating to use two "big" DAW's and switch around instead of just using one for everything
Versus61 5 months ago
@Versus61 Live is indeed fully rewirable; both as a master and slave. I do agree that if you only use Live as a sequencer or such that its not very feasible. But if you're fond of some of Live's samples or if you also own one or more instruments then it could be a nice combination.
ShelLuser 5 months ago
@ShelLuser Why is it not practical as a pure sequencer? I use Logic and I am unhappy with the totally counter intuitive midi facilities. I will switch over completely unless someone can tell me why ableton is inferior as a sequencer.

I mean have fun, dig music, gig, noodle, twitch, flick, whack and toss off, but for fuck's sake don't call yourself a musician! Unless you're exceptional, I suspect you know as much about music as you do quantum mechanics!
thrunobulax1 6 months ago
@thrunobulax1 You don't need to be the best at making music to be called a musician. If you love what you do, and wanna do it for a long time. Then you can call yourself a musician.

do you need one of the midi controller devices to make stuff properly?

ey guys!:) should i get fl studio or abelton live? i want to make music like deadmau5, lots of people say fl studio, and lots of people say abelton. what do you guys think?=o
zipproductionz 6 months ago
@zipproductionz All preference, pick which one you find more comfortable to use. Music quality comes from the user, not the program.
TrendKillStudios 6 months ago 14
@TrendKillStudios but ableton is better, right? both skrillex and deadmau5 is using, so it feels like fl studio sucks <.<
zipproductionz 6 months ago
@zipproductionz Imo (in my opinion) ableton is a far better program than fl studio.
hughgavinkicks 6 months ago
@zipproductionz In my personal opinion, Fl studio is more user friendly and is easier to become accustom too, but Ableton allows to go more in depth with your song and allows for more possibilities, but is harder to use
10sharks10 6 months ago
@zipproductionz FL and Ableton aren't the only DAWs out there, try some out and see what works best for you.

@TheObscureMind FL is by far my favorite. My only issue is that its windows only.
Idkfawin32 5 months ago
@Idkfawin32 I used FL for a while but it wasn't really my thing. Now I use Sonar
TheObscureMind 5 months ago
@TheObscureMind It all depends, I'm more into hand composing songs, so FL is for me. If I want to record then I'd use something else.
Idkfawin32 5 months ago
@Idkfawin32 Lol that's funny, I used to use FL to record .
TheObscureMind 5 months ago
@TheObscureMind lol see I use mixcraft, but I'm thinking about using garageband in the future
Idkfawin32 5 months ago
@Idkfawin32 Yeah I hear that's pretty reliable. I'm thinking about getting a Mac myself, it all depends on how I feel about Sonar next month lol .
