  • I am a MAJOR follower and have never seen this one....

  • The man that gave me a reason to ride motorcycles and here I am 45 years later and still riding.

  • 6 dislikes?

Evel must have boned all 6 of their old ladies. Who hates Evel?

  • 25 x 65cc class do this every Sunday now....It is really hard to understand how difficult that was in the day.

  • BIG BALLS

    damn, that triumph runs good!

I love that the announcer keeps saying "Triumph" and "machine"

what a guy, and what a "machine"

    love my '72 tr6

  • Evel said years ago he would have jumped the grand canyon on the bikes they make now a days. His bikes were TANKS. tHE DUDE WAS A CRAZY sob. still have all the toys mint in box at 43..PEACE !@

  • Jumping on an old Triumph - wow who would dare do that today.

  • Its to bad those buttholes at ABC took off Wide World of Sports in the early 90s, they really ruined my Sunday and Saturday late afternoons by doing that.

  • There have been many long distance motorcycle jumpers.....but, Bob was the first one to try it.

Happy Landings....and see you in Heaven.

  • Saw him in Fremont CA like 15 busses sid by side, like butter 1972

  • This guy was a dumb Nigga

  • EVEL KNIEVEL'S RESPONSIBLE FOR MY FRONT TEETH BEING KNOCKED OUT.

HE JUMPED CARS ON A HARLEY, I JUMPED GARBAGE CANS ON A SCHWINN LIME CRATE. BANANA SEAT, HIGH RISE HANDLE BARS, AND A STICK SHIFT. THE HANDLE BARS DIDN'T LIKE THAT TO MUCH AND SNAPPED ON IMPACT. POW THERE WENT MY TEETH

  • @twilliamsusmc ....lol, did you ever jump again?

  • @twilliamsusmc made me laugh and smile a bit , classic ! if ya had that bike today you could sell it to replace those missing teeth. wish i could find one of those bikes now cheap

  • @twilliamsusmc Superman was responsible for my friend knocking his teeth out after jumping out of his 2 story bedroom window with a superman cape on that he'd got for Christmas.

  • we miss Evil and his daredevil motorcycle stunts

  • Hands down he is the greatest of all time Past, Present, & Future... R.I.P. Evel Kneivel

  • hey interveiwer guy, good way to pay attention to evel, he just told you how many cars and then you ask how many cars

  • As a kid this was fantastic when Evel Knievel was a household name.

  • Thats great. We built ramps and lined up lawn mowers, trash cans and what ever to else we found lying around to jump on our bicycles.

Evil R.I.P. brother you was the first.

  • Awful Knawful

  • Lol I can imagine that lil girl is probably like an old woman now watching this

  • That was at the famous Ascot raceway which is no longer there!

  • Knievel was a real hero!

  • ardvarkkkk1 Your right, your forgetting Triumph's restricted to 650's on dirt tracks, & the AMA changed rules in 1970 and that is where the rare 1970 Triumph 750cc Kitted T120RT Converted for AMA Racing Homologation, there were only 204 "Built" the Distriubuters, Johnson motor's and Tri-Cor, pulled the sides off the crates, took the cylinders, & pistons off & bolted on Sonny Routt big bore 750 Kit's, Harley always had the AMA in their back pocket, later on the japs copied Triumph, & beat all!

  • WHOEVER DNT LIKE THIS VIDEO IS REAL EDD

  • A wild way to ride a motorcycle! =D

  • I remember watching this live.

  • I remember watching this live.

  • Yes fokes!! you have just wittnest the begening of what is now none as...(The-X-GAMES)

  • shit bike

  • Oi! Undertaker bloke, I dislike this video, I dislike wanker knieval, I'm not american and neither was the Triumph that the twat was riding. On a different note, check out stunt rider Eddie Kidd, after an accident he was left very disabled. He is half way through doing the London marathon, he's been doing it for weeks. Brave tough man.

  • if you dislike this video ur un american.

  • Was March 25th, 1967 the date this jump was taped, or the date it aired??

  • Now a days, Dirt Bikes with a lot of suspension clearence are used. Evel used Dirt Track Racers that had very little suspension. (Maybe an inch.) It took balls to do that.

  • @TheRealJamDawg I don't know much about suspension... what exactly does it do?

  • @hattrick116 "Suspension" has to do with the Shock Absorbers, etc on any large motor vehicle. Dirt Bikes are made for jumping, therefore there is plenty of space between the tire and the fender. That space compresses on impact. The bikes Knievel jumped on at the begining were Triumph Dirt Track Racing Bikes. (The Hard, Flat Dirt Tracks seen in the Midwest.) and they're built for sped, not jumping. Later on, Harley-Davidson custom built lighter weight bikes for him.

  • Original American Bad Ass!!!

  • Hey, I'm not saying he was a "knight" in shining armor. He was a very difficult man. Heck, his family can testify to that! He certainly is not considered a failure though! The man nailed most of his jumps. Those that he didn't were just as spectacular to the viewers. He wasnt just an innovator, he was an inventer of a genre. Bad personal life? Yes! Great showman and performer? Without question or equal!!!

  • As his popularity grew, Evel began wearing the red, white and blue leathers which made him an American icon on WWofS. Noone had more swagger than Evel! Many people think he failed alot of jumps, but he actually nailed about 90% of them. A true man!

  • @terleeher . as much as kids loved him, he was a dick to alot of people. the problem was that evel missed the biggest jumps so people consider him a failure as a jumper. wouldnt consider jumping cars the measure of a "true man"

  • I never saw one this old he always had red white and blue on when I was alive.

  • @smithsmithdt Are you not alive now then?

  • evil knievel is the best stunt man i think he died november 30 2007

  • evil knievel is the best stunt man

  • Luv the Old Skool leathers & Bell helmet, too, huh?

RIP, Evel & Happy Landings -

  • wide world of sports was fantastic...we had EVEL, we had ALI., golf, tennis, world's strongest man, olympic coverage, NY cosmos coverage...and the classic ski jump wipeout in the credits !

  • Evel Kievel is largely responsible for most of the scars on my head - and those i got riding my bicycle!! Those were the days before bicycle helmets, and any kid who wears one today is a pussy.

  • @lukeman62 What a stupid thing to say.

  • @del690 Nonetheless, it's true. KMA, pussy.

  • @lukeman62 Once again you prove what a colossal idiot you are!

  • Evel Kneivel riding a British motorbike to jump over fifteen cars.RIP Evel Knievel

  • Not many people would do that nowadays.

  • 1:19am Thursday (CST) - Time in Mississippi

  • Nice bike...should have stayed with the Triumph........HD sucks balls

  • He once said in an interview that the bike bottomed out so hard on the takeoff ramp, it was about enough to knock you silly.

  • LOL ... a mot unusual young man ....

  • Evel Knievel.......THE MAN >THE MYTH >THE LEGEND!!!

  • RIP EVEL

  • That landing was smooth as SILK

  • This was a sideshow to a major championship motorcycle race that "Wide World" was taping.

"Wide World" ended up also taping Evel Knievel's jump, and decided to use it.

This may have been a defining moment in television history: The ancestor of today's "extreme sports".

  • kinivel is my hero

  • THEE MAN

  • Chuck Norris bows to Evel Knievel.

  • @geektoro , chuck norris bows to everyone

  • Those bikes r a lot heavier then the new ones... He was out of his mind!!! Gotta love him!!!

  • Evel was the fucking man.

  • balls

  • That jump could've cleared 16 cars, his rear wheel didn't land until the middle of the ramp.

  • i was betterno i am better

  • plus the lack of trajectory science... shit he was probably testing everything right in front of everyone insane

  • This was great to see!

  • It takes a real man to get busted all to hell on a jump, and then try to jump farther.

  • I bet that Bike was Heavy and Hard..The Dude had no fear !

  • good jump from Evel actually one of his better jumps! because a lot of the times he would land the bike on the front wheel which made the bike harder to control then fall off and get really injured, no doubting thought this guys had balls:-)

  • Travis Pastrana would double backflip that shit

  • @PRETZ3L5 Not on an old Triumph TT he wouldn`t ¬¬

  • Whew. Good thing he had that parachute, huh? ;)

  • This is early footage. Thanks for posting.

  • Gardena California wtf I live right there!!!!!!

  • @dragonmemories He also jumped at ontario motor speedway. Ofcourse like everything else in So Cal it has been demolished. So Cal had alot going on in the 60's and early 70's. Gardena is not the same as it used to be. Pomona is the same way. That is where i am from. Used to cost 6 bucks to go to disneyland!..I would just lift the chain link fence and get into pomona drags. But evil was an american icon back then. But snoop doggy style is the man now?...LMAO

  • Evel is and alway's will be an 'American Icon'. Great man indeed!

  • Anybody that would attempt to jump 13 cars, and be laid up for 5 months and then come back to jump 15..not sure what to say, but, Right on..Good work. That's the kind of fearlessness we need. That's liket super human. Most people would give up at a whole lot less than that.

  • wow he didnt crash! first video ive seen that he actually made it lol

  • long live the king.

  • H E R O

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, that old Triumph could FLY!!! Very kewl, indeed! This guy was nuts. But thats whats so awesome about Evel. When he switched to Hardly Ableson, how many times did oil leaks contribute to his crashes?

  • @waterfordjim None. The XR750 has won more races than any other bike in history. It's still going strong.

  • @ardvarkkkkk It only won so many races cos they kept banning anything that could beat it.

  • @arrowtaxi Are you really that stupid? You're right, there is some favoritism going on. If you run a Harley, you have to run a carberator restrictor plate. Any other bike, you don't have to. The AMA made this rule because Harleys were dominating. They decided to change the rules to make it more fair for the jap bikes.

  • @ardvarkkkkk1 No not stupid History tells a differant story. But thats getting away from this post. Evel was a great showman and a brave man. There will never be anyone else like him.

    Respect Evel.

  • @ardvarkkkkk1 Uh, hang on. You have it backwards. Harleys were getting killed by the Japanese so dirt track rules were changed to favor Harley, not the other way around. That is why Harleys continued to win on American dirt tracks but disappeared everywhere else. In racing circles, Harleys have been obsolete for 40 years. My uncle used to drag race Harleys. By the late 60's he couldn't keep up with the Jap stuff anymore.

  • Honor and respect to this great figure who has left a huge imprint in this world of acrobats jumping. Evel rest in peace.

  • can you imagine what he would of done with todays dirtbikes if he was in his prime..

    he'd still smoke em all

    R.I.P

  • where was this??

  • Ascot Park, Gardena California just south of Los Angeles.

  • I thought of him as a hero when I was a kid.

If you learn about him, he's a bitter, arrogant prick.

  • Comment removed

  • Arrogant ? yes, but you don't sound far from him, So you know, the best known cycle jumper in the world in our lifetime, All real men's childhood Hero, and the most widely watched events on the wild world of sports are ONLY Evel Knievel jumps to this fuckin day. What can you do nancy? thats what I thought mouth.

  • I never understood why they never laid rubber mats around the landing area. It would have been better than bouncing off the pavement.

  • Evel should've stuck to Triumphs. They're lighter and faster than the Harleys he kept breaking his bones on. It's very simple maths

  • They weren't American. Many of his stunts were overseas like in the UK, and while he was loved there he probably felt he was representing America.

Besides the Harley he used was the XR750 dirt track racer. Not a hog or sportster. A little research will reveal that machine was second to none in that arena at the time. Best for jumping? Questionable, but he did tout he was using an off the production line bike, with that parameter it probably was. More important Triumphs were unreliable (ctd)

  • and vibrated a LOT, leaked oil (disastrous on the ramp or practice area)AND had no model with electric start- a big deal to a man who was essentially a cripple. (not sure if his XR had electric but it had accomodations for one or external as it was based on the XL which got electric in '67)

Finally Triumph was in serious financial trouble in '69 with the coming Japanese "revolution". The BSA group which owned them folded in '72. So... :-)

  • @ufarkingdie Harley had a better promotion sound to it for both the brand name and the difficulty aspect. Both of those helped to put butts in the seats. Though I do agree that if he had jumped more on Triumphs than Harleys he would have probably landed safely on many of those he crashed on.

  • I remember watching his jumps on TV. Even after a very painful failure he was willing to jump again after he healed. For a while he lived in North Royalton, Ohio after he retired from jumping. He devoted his time to painting then.

  • He was the coolest guy... an American original.

  • I'm 40 yrs. old and Evel Knievel is one of my heroes from my childhood. I had his toys and pretended to be him on my bicycles too. To me he was a incredible showman with nerves of steel. I will always remember watching him on wide world of sports. Almost superhero like in my eyes. We miss you evel!!

  • Absolutely was too on ABC's Wide World of Sports in 67 and has been rebroadcast by ESPN since then...Evel was the original "dare-devil" and the best...Crash or successful jump...it was always a show!

  • es el mejor motociclista del mundo!!!!

  • Ranhughes...the ESPN logo has been added recently, as they currently own the video. The vid is 100% authentic. It was originally done on Wide World Of Sports...and was part of the WWOS intro for years.

  • oh...i know...i was just being a smartass with one of my friends here on youtube...sorry for the confusion.

  • ummm duh

  • Apparantly ESPN was showing the original footage

  • this guy is one of the true, real, bad asses! He sure walked the walk.

  • I think he rode nortons first, then triiumphs, then laverdas then honda, then ended up with harleys.

  • Evil knievel Rocks!

  • Evel was one of the reasons that made the 70s a special decade.

  • It's nothing to jump that nowdays, but that the motorcycle suspension back then was terrible. Evel had brass balls.

  • @Gaspipenicklioni Yeah, there are probably dudes who could do it on a bicycle today

  • @themeaningoflife38 Let's see you do it.

  • @JP5466 I already did it

  • @Gaspipenicklioni you are wrong. miss the speed and you are going to die.

  • You know Ascot was the Bomb When Evil made his premier at Ascot

  • He was a heck of a showman.

  • It's weird not seeing him in his red, white and blue leather outfit.

  • Evel Knievel is the one who should've been nicknamed the folk hero, not D. B. Cooper.

  • good ole Triumph..

  • That bike must have weighed a tonne.

  • nice video -- in good times or bad, pursue danger, not comfort

  • EVEL KNIEVEL is why i named myself Crazy Lacy back in 1980.

EVEL KNIEVEL is one Bad Dude.

  • good thing your name wasn't Richie

  • from butte mt

  • WTF?

    Racy Lacy.

    or

    Crazy Lazy.

Your way only works for harelips. LOL!

  • Cool video. Wide World of Sports was a great show.

  • Thanks man, excellent quality.

  • Awesome! Evel was a hero to so many kids back in the day (myself included), who played w/ the toys and reinacted those jumps over and over. And as a black person, I find that joke extremely insulting.

  • ALMOST RIP !!!

  • Tell his wife and children.

  • THIS IS REALLY COOL! I remember Asccot Park back in the day. Too bad it got torn down. I wish I could find the other video of Evel Knievel at Ascot Park when he returned there a few years later.

  • Knievel is an American legend. Although he did look like a crash-test-dummy in that yellow gear.

  • it said that he did a previous one, but didn't make it .. so it was technically his second jump.

  • fist jump showed on the wws, first one over 15 cars. he failed on 13 cars previously :)

  • He was and always will be an American Icon!

    MusicMatty67 on Youtube

  • Evel when he was wearing a suit and had short hair. Wow! He looked so preppy then.

  • Kool vid. shame evel's dead now.

  • After 1967 they didn't show Evel jump again on Wide World until 1973. The first time I saw this clip was around 1976 or so . Evel and Frank covered a motorcycle race at that same track

  • I wish abc would release the jumps in full on dvd.

  • yes, i'm sure that would be a real moneymaker for abc...not!!!!
