Why can't you take attack subjects of real Importance, like school funding, medical issues for the elderly, YOUR boredom!! Your priorities are backwards!! Take up knitting or maybe buy a Motorcycle. I look forward to your comments!
This is not an "attack" it is a report, and an opinion. To bad this fest isn't in YOUR backyard, maybe you would enjoy it maybe not, but at least you might have a shred of empathy... that is putting yourself in another's place and seeing their point of view. The event is too big for the venue.
How about putting your name and face with you opinions? So Patchogue has a couple of events each year at Shorefront Park. Anything worth while tends to create traffic issues and involves money, that isn't exclusive to Patchogue. I live in the Village and attend many of the events and don;t have any problems.
sindilk, you didn't leave a comment in support of morning fireworks. Does that mean you agree that is ridiculous and makes Patchogue look bad? I don't know why you are so bothered by my annominity. You're not leaving your name and address here. I explain the reason in the info section, if you really live in the village you might know why.
Back when my grandparents were young patchogue was one of the busiest most modern towns on the island. We were a center of commerce but eventually we got bogged down and stuck in the past and didn't progress with everyone else. Now we are seeing a revitalization. This is for the new generation the new patchogue and this is how it should be. I understand what you are trying to do but in this area you are wrong and stuck in the past.
smaugdragon, I appreciate the thought you have put into your comments. I agree with you that Patchogue is being revitalized, but not by having oversized events at the Shorefront park venue. People talk about these events in a way that applies much more importance to them than they actually have. Everyone enjoys a good time, and what constitutes a good time or good music is subjective. Events like this might make Patchogue a place to visit, but it isn't making it a place people want to live.
All this has to do with attracting people to and bringing commerce to patchogue. Things have to change in order for there to be progress this is part of it. Imagine if they had never torn down that blight on the village the lace mill so many years ago, or rebuilt the patchogue theatre. Many things still need to be improved but that's how progress works and part of that is making sure people know your there.
Visitor have said to me, with pity in their voice, "Oh they have a lot of events here." That translates to I would not want to live here, and indeed if we look at the turnover of houses being put on the market in the neighborhood of the park it is evident that this particular area is not as desirable with all this activity. When I was growing up and did not live here, my family would come here to shop for certain things, and some of those well known stores are still here.
People know we are here, they see the exit signs on the 495 and Sunrise hwy on their way to the Hamptons. They come here by train to go to Davis Park and relax in the $2000/wk beach house they have rented.
Now i can't say if that was the case this year but these event serve to help bring buisness to the village. Also For many years patchogue has been degenerating in to a rather crappy place but in recent years we have seen a major turn around Main street is getting new buisness renovations are planned developers are interested in building here the town and village are finnaly starting to enforce the housing and building codes.
What I saw the year was the downtown area was very quite this year even with sidewalk sale day during the music fest. the business that profited were the vendors in the festival and probably the eateries by the dock. Well, on second thought, I doubt if Louis XVIII got extra business, in fact they may have had to turn away a wedding because of the loudness of the concert.
Even Bald hill hardly ever had anything worth while. These events dont just bring recognition to patchogue but brookhaven town and the surrounding villages. People coming to this festival also spent time shopping in the village. Then there is all the retaurant goers I imagine alot of people discovered good restaurants they did not know existed. Also i know last year proceeds from this event went towards sponsering renovations planned for the playgroung and making it hadicap friendly.
Well, when the music fest is moved to Bald Hill or any other larger venue, the Riverhead Race track would be good too. Proceeds?!? What proceeds? Fund raisers? Making the playground and park accessible to people with disabilities is not that hard and wouldn't be that costly all that is needed is a decent sidewalk. Equipment is another matter.
Did you have a problem with the Sail boat festival they had several weeks later or how about the carnivals they have been having down there for years? I have been a Patchogue resident for nearly my whole life. It used to be i had to go to nassau coliseum or jones beach to see good concerts and hear good music.
Sailboat festival? Oh, you mean the Optimists. Did I have a problem? Let me think, they didn't block the road, they didn't make constant noise, if fact they were pretty quite and most days they were done by sunset. Nope no problem, I would welcome them back every year.
Ah, yes you help make my point! This business you write about was a vendor. With just a few exceptions, only vendors profit, but promoters, including the village idiots that brought this here, would have us think that all Patchogue businesses benefit.
For your information I do not live "next to" the bandshell, and when I did move to Patchogue the biggest event was the Lyons fundraising carnival. Just for your information, many of the houses near the park were there before there was a park.
Well, "dancing b" that fire truck fortunately wasn't going to a fire, but if it had been it would have been greatly delayed, and therefore, more property and possibly life could have been lost. If NYS parking rules were followed then the corners would have been maneuverable. BTW truck and school buses normally have no problem traveling those streets. Definitely some of the beer was from inside, the bluepoint cups didn't jump the fence by themselves.
furthermore nice litter close ups, you fail to mention that that is all cleaned up by the event staff as part of the deal when it is over, so I am offended by this video and think it is STOOPID!P.S. nice voice altering?????
Thank you. Yes, is was cleaned up by village employees, presumably getting overtime since they do not work weekends. You can be offended, I was offended by the noise and the mess.
Get over it, stoopidville. How long have you lived near the park? What did you think when they re-did the bandshell a few years ago? This event was nice and I live down the block. The event was good for the village of Patchogue and many of the residents went to the festival. The park was actually cleaned up by the following Monday afternoon, so I don't know what "overtime" you are talking about to clean up the park.
Redone a few years ago? I think you are suffering from time distortion, this is the second summer for the new bandshell. Why do you think this is good for Patchogue? Yes village employees were needed during the weekend. Maybe you should volunteer to have this in your back yard.
Yes, it was done by last year. Oh wow, so I said a "few" instead of now nearly two. And since I live in the neighborhood, yes, it is practically in my backyard. Maybe you should be more like our neighbors on Ryder Avenue and have a party when the festival occurs?
This is good for Patchogue because it allows people to "Discover Pathogue" and the wonderful village we have.
I wouldn't invite people to my home, when I know they wouldn't be able to park near-by. I'm always amazed by people who do not give a thought of consideration to others. Perhaps I work the night shift at a hospital, or work as an air traffic controller and need to sleep during the day.
Why should anyone be subjected to three days of loud music? Even if all my favorite bands were playing, I'd rather see this event at Bald Hill. People that had a party- good for them- making lemonade from lemons. That is their choice, it worked for them. That doesn't work for everyone. I trust that whether you agree or not, you can have a little empathy, and I hope this administration pays attention to its taxpayers. If not the streets here could be full of rentals in 10 years.
I absolutely can have empathy for the people who might be bothered by such a festival. What I find a little perturbing are those who seek to make videos of the thing and then post them youtube instead of doing something significant. Hey, I've lived in neighborhoods where it wasn't 3 day music festivals, but constant partying almost every night...by the neighbors and not some festival promoter. These are the chances we take when we live in neighborhoods.
When private citizens are disturbing the peace people have recourse, they can call the police. When the village administration organizes an event that disturbs the peace there is little that can be done outside of voting for new leadership at election time. So that is what this channel is about, away to let it be known that not everyone is on board and thinks events such as this one are okay to host at the park.
Yes, you presumed. And you are wrong. The OT was paid for by the promoters. It's always best to find out the correct information first before making any accusations.
Seriously, I'd like to see proof of that. I had people contact the promoters and the village about fees paid to the village and no one could/would answer the question. Since the village is a "sponsor" it is reasonable to think the sponsorship was in exchange for the venue and the services of our constables and highway workers. If the village collected fees why would they hide that fact?
I am also very good old friends and business associates with the local bands who play and it is very good for them to have the opportunity to play such an event it is also good for the FAMILIES who live local that have children and cant go far away to see a music event.besides one weekend of "noise" out of the whole summer-come on you act like it is every weekend.
so you are protesting an event that you paid to get into and tape?I have personally worked at that venue and it greatly helps out local business owners who need the profit from a festival like that to keep their business alive,
Hi "dancing b" no I did not tape from inside the event, this is not a protest it is reporting from another perspective. Very few local businesses had a big increase in business. that is just propaganda, and an excuse to feed to the community in an attempt to have community support.
Why can't you take attack subjects of real Importance, like school funding, medical issues for the elderly, YOUR boredom!! Your priorities are backwards!! Take up knitting or maybe buy a Motorcycle. I look forward to your comments!

"propaganda" I work for one of the local businesses that has vended both years and the profit greatly helps feed his baby boy!
BTW why did you move next to a band shell if you have a problem with this sort of thing?
and if the noise was so terrible why not close your windows turn on the a.c. and the t.v. or something.
do you listen to music at all?
because that was some of the best thats out there or would a concerto have been more to your liking?
well it could have been
rap/heavy metal - lol
