The Danes were eventually driven out of the British Isles, with the remaining settlers eventually being assimilated into the Native Culture. The same happened in Ireland, with many Danish settlers assuming Irish surnames and the native language.

Britain squandered any potential for ammicable relations in Ireland by developing a culture of marked divison. This mis-management spurred Nationalism and an Irish idendity.
