It's unbelievable how the train rides by at the exact moment that they shake hands together. You just don't see things like that nowadays. This movie makes me proud to be born and raised in philly.
The tone of this movie is what makes it better than all that followed in the franchise. It's a bunch of broken characters all looking for redemption. It really is a great movie. It's Dark and it's real. Love it.
my favorite movie scenes: this is one, ..then Brando and Steiger ( (taxixcab scene) in "On The Waterfront" and Brynner and McQueen in " The Magnificent Seven" Just stays with you forever...
i love this scene the other scene is in rocky 2 wen rocky asks mickey to let him fight agan and mickey hits him to show his eyes are to bad to fight very sad scene beutifuly workd by these two guys
That's classic Mickey, and one of my all time favorite lines. He had so many memorbale lines from the Rocky films. He was the best character in my opinion. Rocky films weren't the same without him
two tough guys dropping their pride and asking for help from one another. well written and acted scene in movie history. most people say they dislike the rocky films, unfortunately they base it off of the sequels. that's too bad. most will never watch the original and miss out on a great, great movie.
@zippydedoo Thank you, you summed up my feelings right there. This scene had nothing to do with fighting. It was all about a tired old man who sincerely wanted to help a younger man, and a younger man who was scared. Stallone has made a lot of dreck, but this scene is truly timeless.
when i first saw this movie i was blown away by this scene, i thought how mick was going down low but because he wanted the best rock and you feel the tension when rock is telling how he felt like this whole time and when he goes outside to chase him, man this is a beautiful scene.
Mick always thought that Rocky had potential but never got the chance to properly train him because he felt that Rocky was just wating his life with his other job. He always thought that he was right, but he swallowed his pride, took the initiative and finally offered his help to Rocky when his big break came.
I never thought of it as Mickey trying to get famous thru Rocky. I see of it as a father, who was observing his son from afar, finally taking the courage to set him straight.
I may be wrong, but on the behind the scenes clip of the special edition, the director says that when mickey touches his head and remembers his hat and rocky comes out and goes back in, that's all not in the script and was just improvised and fit perfectly.
@Cristalship88 I like how Mick turns around and reacts has though Rocky's was going to hit him. Then he quickly realizes that Rocks coming to accept his offer.
I didn't watch the first Rocky until I was a little older and had already seen parts 2 through 4. When I did finally watch the original (because I used to think it was boring and uneventful) I still used to skip over this part. But luckily, thank God, I matured and realized this is probably the best and most heartfelt scene in all 5 (and now 6) movies put together! So much truth and emotion! Love it!
good scene!rocky is full of them..... i like how rocky doesn't yell at mick to his face, he yells at him behind a closed door before finally, he forgives him. the scene where he forgives him and accepts his help is silent which is a great touch! in the end Rocky wasn't REALLY mad at mick the anger came from being upset about his life... isn't there where arguments come from between two people... some other place?!
Its funny beccause this scene is so real in terms of how peopel start coming around yuo giving you attention when you get money/ or are doing well in life/ and try to become your friend/lolool thats the bitterness that rocky was expressing/ but in the end his good heart gave in and thats why he let mickey train him
This is the story of 99% of all struggling artists...now one cares of your existence...no one unless you get freak luck mean big bucks...the sadness of this world
i like how he was a nobody and when he got a lucky break to have a shot at the title, then everybody wanted to be around em,i love the qoute he says WHAT ABOUT MY PRIME MICK......ATLEAST U HAD A PRIME!!!
one of the greatest scenes in filmdom. Burgess is as good as any actor in his prime..and Stallone makes his character indelible in movie history with this scene - the best ofthe movie !!
god this scene makes me cry every time i see it, forget star wars, star trek, lord of the rings as the best movies mad, the rocky collection are by far the best,he was the hero in us all
I must have had to watch this movie ten times before I realized how much Mickey loved Rocky and that his constant belittling was because of the disappointment that Rocky was to him for all those years. After the second one, they probably should have just quit because without Mickey, the on screen chemistry just wasn't there. I didn't buy into the Rocky-Apollo kinship and Rocky IV was totally predictable. Rocky V would have been better had there not been 3 and 4.
forget all the people who say "all you bums just fantasize over a fictional character!" its not so much the fictional character as much as it is the spirit and courage portrayed by the character. Rocky I is the best in the series!
yeah exactly, he did feel scared. imagine being in that position and only having your 2 turtles to talk to. what a story this was. has to be one of the most inspirational movies of all time. to me rocky is real.
This was a very great scene in a very great movie. I think the first Rocky movie is one of the best in the series! Rocky is a very emotional man, showing a lot of anger in this scene especially when he yells and punches the door twice. WOW!
Rock is the store of a WORKING man a real working man that had hard times and people that love him.. for all the bad and sad thing around him..MICKY is that light for a man that needed to sail too.. MICKY is that.. wonderful light....of hope and strength .... we losing and missing so much.. there so many MICKY out there that people are forgetting them..... i had a Micky he was GREAT ... thank you for posting this.. get up ..you son of bitch....from New York..
my favorite part (other than this) was when little marrie said "screw you creepo" and he walks away after trying to help her. It shows how he has heart.
Such an emotional scene. Much like a father and son moment with pride getting into the way. Then when Rocky runs after Mick to gently embrace him and apologize is something special.
Seriously. I agree times 10!! Its great seeing such kick ass acting. I could watch this scene over and over again. Mick wants his shot in the spot light and help Rocko at the same time, and Rocky dont wanna hear it cuz Mick never helped him those years in the past coming up.
the train is very simbolic Notice in the scene in rocky 5 when rocky is in the Floor The trian apears and mickey says get up you son of a bitch Cous mikey Loves you. also look when rocky and mickeys shake hands the train is also there.... lol its just me but its cool to notice every detail.
this video is the best , rocky feels that's most of people left him he doesn't have a job , they look to him as a bad person , as a loser but he is good person they don't understand him , but when the chance come to him all of that's people come to him and change that's look about him this is our world :( i will add it to favorite thanks you
The last part where Rocky let's it all out is where I can relate the most to. This righteous anger, never being respected nor noticed, unless wealth or an opportunity comes along. Then people suddenly find interest in that person and try to buy a friendship or take advantage of that person, like here like here when Mickey tries to trick Rocky into thinking that Rocky needs Mickey as his manager, which he really doesn't. I believe, trying to be tricked by Mickey is also Rocky's biggest pain.
you could argue that's because he was really talkin about himself. remember he was 30 when he got his big break with Rocky and up until that point hadn't achieved much in life...
great scene and a great movie, its never been a boxing movie..its about love and relationships...thats what people love about the character and the film...the fights are secondary!
if rocky was only this movie, rather than a hundred sequels,it woulda been legendary After this rocky they should've made rocky 2 and then end it up
As most great movies, the more rocky movies done the more fucked up it became as rocky was slowly losing his fighting spirit and became a star rather than the poor but kickass boxer he originally was
it still is a legendary movie cuz we wouldnt be talking about it now if it wasnt.. But i do absolutely agree on ur other point.. they did mess it up by making too many sequels! Rocky 1 was by far da best
i didnt say that rocky 3 and all the other after it were bad,but in these movies rocky lost himself.I mean he became nore arrogant and forgot his town and his previous life..
i know its physical for a fighter to turn from a nothing to a star but rocky wasnt just meant to be famous..after all he suffered the most losses(adrian, mickey)and got hurt much more while he was famous.. so once again
Theres a blooper in tht scene.....which turned out to be brilliant....mickey forgot his hat and before he went back to get it he slammed the door and sly came out early....the look on their faces was great....
It's unbelievable how the train rides by at the exact moment that they shake hands together. You just don't see things like that nowadays. This movie makes me proud to be born and raised in philly.

Their ridicule is really ironic, considering the sacrifice and heartache Stallone actually had to go through to make this movie.
The movie industry thought he was a joke, his wife left him, he had to sell his dog, and he was barely avoiding starving to death.
Stallone was every bit this character when he played him: hopeful, broke, scared, and taking the best shot he could.

you could argue that's because he was really talkin about himself. remember he was 30 when he got his big break with Rocky and up until that point hadn't achieved much in life...

Rocky said to him what all men say to their friends when they f'd up. It is what we do.

great scene and a great movie, its never been a boxing movie..its about love and relationships...thats what people love about the character and the film...the fights are secondary!

if rocky was only this movie, rather than a hundred sequels,it woulda been legendary After this rocky they should've made rocky 2 and then end it up
As most great movies, the more rocky movies done the more fucked up it became as rocky was slowly losing his fighting spirit and became a star rather than the poor but kickass boxer he originally was
ROCKY 1 AND 2 FOR EVARrr!!!

it still is a legendary movie cuz we wouldnt be talking about it now if it wasnt.. But i do absolutely agree on ur other point.. they did mess it up by making too many sequels! Rocky 1 was by far da best

ridiculous!! rocky 3 was a classic!

i didnt say that rocky 3 and all the other after it were bad,but in these movies rocky lost himself.I mean he became nore arrogant and forgot his town and his previous life..
i know its physical for a fighter to turn from a nothing to a star but rocky wasnt just meant to be famous..after all he suffered the most losses(adrian, mickey)and got hurt much more while he was famous.. so once again
rocky 1 and 2!!!

that's not a blooper. Stallone said it was a great moment that him and Burgess worked on, but it wasn't a blooper. God, you suck.
