@FriedRation I believe in Beethoven's time, the C was tuned at 256, the "standard scientific pitch" at the time, so the A would vary from 427-430: quite low by our standards.
It's amazing that this happy sounding Symphony was written around the same time that Beethoven found out he was going deaf and would eventually become completely deaf. He was so distraught, and yet he could still write something so happy and joyful. How he did that is beyond me!

@Musicman247 he hid the fact that he was going deaf for a while. some people believe it was all part of him hiding his true feelings from everybody. possibly his way of saying 'everything's fine' when it really wasn't
@layziezx He trust only himself! that's why he don't tell anything else to someone else and that's also means he was so honest with himself before been with others! point of view there was no one who Beethoven was so close with to tell such things not mention big issues like (Deafness) so he couldn't tell he was facing troubles and going to be deaf! simply he always trust himself to thru anything.. anything no matter that things could be or gonna be.
Now that's some Beethoven, ya know? It's hard to point to any Beethoven symphony and say, "this is the best!" It's been my experience that whatever symphony you are listening to is always the best. He was just that good.
excellent, excellent, excellent! Thanks a million for posting this. Am abroad with no stereo so relying on youtube for music. And am happy to be able to do so thanks to good people like yourself posting quality sounds!

Is everything transposed down a semitone? or am I hallucinating?
jimmyz512 5 months ago
@jimmyz512
The tuning system they used in Beethoven's time. As a result, everything sounds almost a semitone flat in comparison to today's tuning.

Nothing but brilliant - but the interpretation of Günter Wand has a little more depth (to my ears at least), his violins seem more differentiated.
Many thanks for posting this!
