@irishlynch777 Greatest of the 80s and 90s? Are you outta your mind? Alice In Chains is a very good band. But nowhere near the best in the 80s and 902. Just sayin.
@irishlynch777 Well there's an argument for many bands or artists in the 80s. You have Michael Jackson with Thriller in 82 which holds the record for most sales ever . Motley Crue is up there with Girls Girls Girls 87 and Dr. Feelgood 89. G'N'R with Appetite for Destruction 87. Metallica with Master of Puppets 85. AC/DC Back in Black 80and For Those About to rock 81. It's not just your opinion. It goes by success too. In My opinion It's probably Metallica. The started the thrash metal era.
@rroybraves OK YOU GOT THE 80'S COVERED THAT'S FOR SURE, THE 90'S WAS THE GRUNGE ERA WHICH THESE GUYS HAD DOMINATED MAYBE NOT IN RECORD SALES BUT AS FOR THE MUSIC ITSELF, STILL NO MATTER WHAT I THINK THEY ARE ONE OF THE GREATEST BANDS EVER
DuVall is really not to good at covers of Alice in chains material that was done with Layne. I mean, nobody can sing like he did. But, DuVall is good at singing Led Zeppelin covers:)
@MrsStormyHedlund Seriously. I would be more then happy to go to an Alice in chains concert where they play only their material from after Laynes death, because they can't do anything more then that.
Roughly 7 minutes times 15 equals105 minutes.....YEAH, she was not only happy, she asked me to do it again the next night.......Over hour and a half..do I need to say more.....My flavor savor lasted til 4 pm the next day....DAMN!!!!
That song has always taken me to places I have never been............also great muff diving song....I pushed the repeat song on my stereo and the song played over 15 times while I was "down there". You do the math, she was happy ever after.....
I'm not a big fan of Alice In Chains, however, after watching this vid,I'm very impressed with the performance of them and the symphany that performed behind them, they did a great job!!!Thanx for posting thiis video,Redsand!!
No slam to Robert Plant but honestly I liked William's version much better than the original. William needs to get out from behind the microphone stand though lol. Excellent symphony support as well. Not enough Jerry finger work either lol
There are a lot of comments on the conductor. He is Matt Messina, a composer and musician originally from Seattle, most notable for his work on the soundtrack for the movie Juno. He is a fan of all types of music, and was able to put together this particular benefit show with the help of Alice in Chain's manager and Seattle music scene legend Susan Silver. Matt puts together a symphony each year to help raise funds and awareness for Seattle's Children's. Ann and Nancy Wilson also performed.
Layne wasn't the only member. He was 1/4 of the band. There is no reason why 3/4 of the band shouldn't carry on with THEIR name because one guy made some bad decisions. I miss Layne too but your comment is bullshit.
If Layne would have been there it couldn't have sounded better! Great song, great band. well the first scream lacked something..but how could you go wrong with a symphony to back you.
Classic. That's all that I can say. This is one of the most dominant songs in Zep's catalog and this is one of the most dominating bands from the 90s. The only thing that is missing is... Staley (RIP)
the conductor was rockin harder then everybody on the stage, he looked like he was enjoying it more then the band. still cant get into William DuVall, as their lead singer, rather hear Cantrell sing lead. good vid though.
@TheMattio100 I'm just about sick about these statements. Guess what? Layne died almost 10 years ago. All AIC fans miss Layne, but it's time to stop and move on.
This Literally gives me goosebumps! Incredible performance by my Favorite band. Only way it could have been better is if robert plant himself were on stage singing this, or layne lol
I never realized who the new singer of AIC was until I recognized his voice in this cover, I saw Madfly back in the 90's, glad he's he's still getting some stage-time, and playing in front of sell out crowds.
Robert Plant and Jimmy page are fucking masters. A freaking orchestra is playing this song. A freaking orchestra. Led Zeppelin literally got a conductor head banging. That's like....godly....
I bet everyone in the audience got chills. I know I did and I'm playing on youtube. I thought they were going to do some shitty mock up, but no...fuckin boss is what they did.
Does anyone notice how Mike almost lifts the conductor off his feet and makes him wobble, I thought that was really cool, especially that each member gave the man a bear hug. You just don't see that that often anymore.
Thumbs up to get this heard: release this as a high quality download with proceeds to the Symphony Guild or their chosen charity. I WOULD FUCKING BUY THIS.
This is the best cover ever! I know Led Zeppelin is an epic band and did the world a favor by writing this great song, but in my honest opinion, Alice In Chains played it better here than they ever did. Alice In Chains is so underrated, in terms of talent they stand up to any band ever to walk this Earth. They are and always will be my favorite band of all-time!
Amazing rendition of an incredible song-not one of Duvall's strongest vocal perfomances (i'm sure he'd agree as he's humble and talented) but by far pays homage and respect to one of the best bands in the world by a band that has been so underrated in music--Great choice for a tribute song and the conductor's enthusiasm makes it even more entertaining! Symphonic Zep on an entirely new level
Hey... I think they did a damn good job of this cover !!! And let's not forget the reason they did this was for a BENEFIT CHARITY CONCERT... NOT to line their own pockets with cash... Looks like 2 people overlooked that FACT !!!
