This was my parents third car. an 01 E320 in red fully loaded, when i was born my parents had 1 car a 93 S600 then in 95 my Mother got a W124 E320 4Matic and stayed with that until 2001 when a drunkdriver front ended her at 35 mph then, she got the 2002 model W210 E320 (which she got in Nov. of 01). and my dad had the W140 (it is still in our garage, been parked there since 03" he didnt want it in the snow anymore, my mother sold the w210 in 04' and they have both had several cars since then)

we had a -00 270cdi great car! we bought it in 2004 with 250 000kms on it, and drove it to 2010 sold it with 377 000kms, we were 2nd owners a week after we sold it it had 6 owners! (car dealers ruin everything!) then 3rd private owner became 7th. and now is had broken bumpers and he busted the engine.. :( only reason we sold it was the insurance and tax expence..

My dad bought a new E200 CDI Classic in late 1998 from the car-shop near of Sarajevo ,Bosnia&Herzegovina.... He bought a brand new fully equiped Hyundai Santa Fe in 2008 ( new version of it ), and gave the E200 to my uncle, I still find the E200, ten years older, better than the Santa Fe.... :)

My dad sold his W124 to a guy in the neighbourhood and bought this w210. I think it was early 1996. But he really was out of luck: He had a lot of troubles, also some strange nasty elektronic bugs. The w124 e320 from 1993 is still driving and looking good. It reminds my dad every time it is not smart to always want to have the newest, so he told me.

@luxembourger normally early W210s have be known for their poor reliability,but that all change when the w210 undergoes a facelift in year 2000.

W210 is the best they have built. W140 was the worst. Take it from a Mercedes-Benz technician.

verglichen mit dem w124 war sein nachfolger ein technisch und haltbarkeitstechnisch grottenschlechtes auto! alleine das rostproblem damals war einfach nur peinlich für mercedes...doch ich denke, der stern ist wieder auf einem sehr guten weg!

These cars are really good, although the first ones (only in bodywork) were not up to mercedes standards. That was corrected though in 1996-1997 (all issues were resolved with the facelift) during an overhaul. I've seen enough of these with half a million km's on em at the second hand dealers. Tell me another car that will still run another half a million. Also, a lot comes down to how the car was treated. If you treat it like trash, it will turn into trash, no matter what brand it is.

I have a Mercedes E230 but he has a AMG completly without engine in a AMG! Tayers 235/45 and 265/35 Michelin. I'm completley hapy whit him,the car is great... 450 100km end 0-100km for 8.4 ceconds... Mercedes Benz-the nuber 1!!!

You get the Good and the Bad. The good: Good engines and good to drive. The Bad: Severe rust problem, body and structure. Inspect the paint very carefully for signs of 'filoform' corrosion (corrosion starting in the metal under the paint). Also inspect for corrosion in the seams, behind the seals at the tops of the doors, and in the underbonnet seams.

i have a e290 td its a good car very smooth but it has a few problems first the ellectric is not so good on this car the display lights starting to not function not more then i have problems with corosie i tell you something this cars have a big problem with corosie thats a few min points on this car but overall they are very good engineerd cars very nice

Arment - until 1999, W210's were prone to rust due to incorrect pre-treatment of the stretch steel used. Mercedes have admitted this, and a main dealer may contribute partly towards rust repair - they certainly have in the UK.

From 99-2001 this problem was sorted. If you are looking at buying one of these beautiful mercs second hand, a quick guide is to buy a model with indicators on the door mirrors. By this time, the W210 had undegone a facelift and are pretty much corrosion free.

Sadly IMHO this was not Mercedes Benz finest effort.Dynamically was an excellent car,but it was launched at a time when MB was trying to cut costs and it showed!.Interiors Quickly became shabby and in the UKs damp climate, bodywork corroded badly,They're pretty reliable though,and fantastic to drive

I have a 2001 W210 wagon which I purchased new. I love the way the car performs. But I too have to say, this is the most unreliable car I have ever had. Mercedes really dropped the ball in the quality dept. I have endless electrical and body corrosion issues. Three of my family and friends own these same vehicles and they all complain to me about the same things. I love the new 2010 e-class. Lets hope M-B has got thier act together by now.

same as my E320, it's sometimes always back to shop just because of Electronic things.. perhaps the Electronic's poor on that era.. and also the Mercs on that era itself is quite depreciate on Quality..

Depends. I own the early 97', Classic, 2.0 Benzin. No complicated electronics. The 136HP engine is very reliable and still runs like a bee (after 150.000 kilometers). I have no problem with the car at all. The real problems starts on the after-lifting version. The early W210 is too simple to experience any major issues ;)
