what sprockets should i use? i ride a yz250f but it doesnt feel like it has a lot of speed.. im riding 13 front and 49 in back. can anyone help me out? i race outdoors
hey man quick question a got free sprocket for my bike its a 13 t rite now it has a 10 tooth in the front and 41 in the back could i just slap it on or do i need a bigger one in back?wheel is locking up when i try to bump start it with the 13 t and 41 in back?
hey, i was wondering if you think that a back spocket could be bent back, im not talking about the teeth. i was riding yesterday and i hit my sprocket of a rock and it bent it in a little is it worth bending back or to buy a new one cause the ones that is bent i could of gotten the whole summer out of it
Thanks Gary, since seeing this video my chains are lasting much longer. I have also been using a brush and solvent to disperse the water from the rollers, I chose this because the spray oil is very expensive where I live ( almost 20USD for a canister! ).
I have a brush I use to clean out the dirt in between rides, and I use white Lith. grease I every time I come in for water or a break and lube up my chain.
Using X-Ring chain for the first time.. I guess they are spose to last longer.
And since I'm not a pro I dont need to use them lighter alum. sprockets because I go just as fast with heavier ones.. :)
Most Japanese O/X-ring chains I've bought have a warning not to soak the chain in petrol, it can damage the O/X-rings. I think this warning is also on regina and cz chains, but I'm not sure.
I have never bought a Chain with any rybber O rings so the gas works just fine for me. The best chain I have used is D.I.D ERT gold chain. A little more money but does not stretch near as fast as the cheapies.
Ok, I don't buy the non o/x ring type because I think it wears too fast. I clean the chain with a wire brush and then use a kerosene solvent to clean the sand and dirt off, then a lubricating oil ( based around Gary's cleaning protocol he outlines in the video ). In fact, after this I go through each roller on the chain to ensure easy rolling, then spray chain lube. I also try to avoid using petrol because it's hazzardous, but if it's working for you then... good luck

I've never heard of a 10 T sprocket on a dirt bike. I'd say the 13 T should be a lot better. No you don't have to change the rear sprocket.

@greasyredneck
I would get a new one. Bending it back perfectly straight would be very difficult and you would be taking a chance on it breaking later while riding.

This is my Chain, sprocket setup and maintenance info:
- RK 520 XSO Performance RX-Ring Drive Chain.
- JT High Carbon Sprockets.
- Bel-Ray Super Clean chain lube.
Like ImMattGetit stated kerosene/Varsol are great solvents for cleaning.

Dude, that's way too much work to do every time you wash your bike. Maxima's Clean Up is inexpensive and it lasts a long it.

Take the chain off and soakit in 10 cents worth of gas hang it up to drain and dry .
Clean the sprokets with a little gas on a paint brush and a drip tray. Put it back on and put on the chain lube. Save a lot of money.
