  • found a brand new westinghouse 32" hdtv near my dumpster. going to look into it today (screen is perfect, no cracks anywhere not even on the tv itself)

i think its just a capacitor problem (our neighbors would throw out something if they plug it in and it doesnt work, no one tries to fix anything) its pretty much a heaven for a tech junkie like me

  • My computer monitor is BIGGER than that ITS 27''.

  • 37'' would be better.

    19'' Hahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • @ziptieTV if money is not a factor!

  • you sound exactly like wheezy waitor :)

  • Excellent. I'm buying a 32' one for Christmas. Hopefully, nothing goes wrong with it. They're known for being horribly made.

  • ive repaired at least over 100 LCD TVs and those shit caps are the most common problem. BUT.....

food for thought: I have a chimei monitor that is 3 years old and still ticking.

And i ran into a westinghouse LCD that actually has good caps, bUT the PWM control IC for the main FET is failed. so.. never know....

  • Congrats on the free TV.

  • my uncle has this tv mounted in his backyard, and it suits the purpose.

  • great find. i am having the same problem. i wish you would have a video showing how u fixed it. i have taken mine apart, but i don't know what i am looking at.

  • You are looking for a capacitor that has either blown its top, or is about to. All electrolytic capacitors should have perfectly flat tops; if you see one that doesn't, replace it with one of the exact same value.

  • Bravo on your find and quick repair.

  • 1000uf radial electrolytic? Dang Chinese caps are in everything now. Printers, computers, microwaves now TVs.

  • thats way too much trunking! I have my bravia on the wall and i have a tiny cable cover. I have my RF, Power, 2x HDMI 3x Coax, 1x Scart all running through a 1cm x 2cm. ALl works fine! Also i painted it the same colour as the wall to hide it a bit better. Nice bargain find :) Way to go!

  • ive noticed alot of flat screen tvs seem to have power suppli isssues after awhile. nice simpsons poster by he way

  • i've got a nice widescreen TV, probably around that size (if not a bit bigger). My cousin didn't quite need it anymore, but i got him to give it to me instead of throwing it away. it's probably 7 years old, but it still works like a charm. playing online games on it is fun, but if i could get it to work with my gaming PC it would be better.

  • Its amazing what a throwaway society we've become. I mean all the owner of that TV could've done was spend a tiny bit of money from their local electrical store and it would be fine! Nice score anyway.

  • I hear you. It's quite ridiculous how people throw things away even if they don't need it anymore. Most of the components from my computer either came from other computers, brand new (rare), or from other things (I use the SNES mousepad I got with Mario Paint), and have other electronics that were given to me or salvaged (like my digital camera or the family's old Tandy 1000EX)

In short, old but still good electronics should be sold online/in a garage sale, not thrown into the garbage.
