I can really feel for this kid. I never held anyone hostage, but I have been depressed and thought of doing some pretty bad stuff. I've gotten help though, and I think I'm starting to do better now.

Depression can have nothing to do with surroundings. It's a brain short-circuit. The people involved in these things are sick. I live in a middle-class suburban home and I still have depression. It's not because I don't appreciate what I have, in fact sometimes I don't think I deserve it. I just get sad and depressed for seemingly no reason sometimes.

The link between anti-depressants and mass murder is simply not compelling enough yet. Have taken them most of my life (SSR's) Paxil, Luvox, etc. I have stopped taking them at many points as an adolescent and just do not see the victim correlation.

It holds more logic then blaming video games. Prescription drugs are created with a various mix of chemicals and compounds that may contain disturbing effects. Listen to to those prescription drug commercials for the side effects they mention. Keep in mind that these drug companies don't mention all off the side effects and sometimes actually do go out their way to bury the test results.

Shooters of legal age can safely purchase firearms with no cause of alarm where as those under the legal age, if able to, can purchase through private sales or by a middle man

It might also interst you to know that - according to the Archives of Internal Medicine - as many as 200,000 Americans die every year as a side effect of prescription drugs. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, 106,000 of those deaths occur among hospital in-patients. You can, in fact, blame that on the pills.
SSRI can cause weird feelings and expiriences, still it usually is a "Wow that is not good, better go to the doc and talk about this" reaction, not going out and killing people. My explanation for the correlation with antidepressants is simple: Depressed people often take antidepressants and school shooters are often depressed.
I firmly belive that depression is one of the main reasons behind school shootings. Taking SSRI and school shootings have a common cause - depression.
Do not abrupty go off the med. You need to wean (or also called taper) off. If your pills can be cut in halves or even quarters, start by decreasing by a quarter every 2 weeks. If your med cannot be divided (ex. a capsule), if you are on more than one dose of the med, a day - start by only taking 1 a day. If it is only a once-a-day dose. Start by taking it every other day for a 2-3 weeks. Then, once every 2 days for a couple weeks, then once every 3 days for a week or two. That will ease it out.
Antidepressants can cause aggression and agitation, much like amphetamines, in people prone to mania. Especially in a person with bipolar disorder (that may be an underlying illness yet undiagnosed in these individuals). Also, in withdrawal from SSRIs, aggression is definitely a side effect. The shame is that many doctors will say that the aggression is an exacerbation of the mental health illness. In reality, the aggression is either a side effect of being on the med. or a withdrawal effect.

The link between anti-depressants and mass murder is simply not compelling enough yet. Have taken them most of my life (SSR's) Paxil, Luvox, etc. I have stopped taking them at many points as an adolescent and just do not see the victim correlation.

It holds more logic then blaming video games. Prescription drugs are created with a various mix of chemicals and compounds that may contain disturbing effects. Listen to to those prescription drug commercials for the side effects they mention. Keep in mind that these drug companies don't mention all off the side effects and sometimes actually do go out their way to bury the test results.

You're exactly right with the symptoms or side effects from these over the counter drugs..But. It all comes down to where the parents are..Some of these shootings could of been stopped before it left the house! Columbine for instance. The parents knew there sons were acting weird and obviously they had videos of there horribler ideas before they did the murdering. Parenting is failing in the US. Its not that easy in these cases where school shootings happen. These students who plan shootings and succeed in taking it out are either separated from the family EX: Tech Shooting or living in a household/environment that enables him to "safely" prepare the fire arms and other supplies until the day arrives EX: Columbine
Shooters of legal age can safely purchase firearms with no cause of alarm where as those under the legal age, if able to, can purchase through private sales or by a middle man

What they do need is compassion, and to feel like someone gives a sh!t that they're on the planet. As Pollyanna as that might sound, it's based on real life and rigourous research. It might also interst you to know that - according to the Archives of Internal Medicine - as many as 200,000 Americans die every year as a side effect of prescription drugs. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, 106,000 of those deaths occur among hospital in-patients. You can, in fact, blame that on the pills.

SSRI can cause weird feelings and expiriences, still it usually is a "Wow that is not good, better go to the doc and talk about this" reaction, not going out and killing people. My explanation for the correlation with antidepressants is simple: Depressed people often take antidepressants and school shooters are often depressed.
I firmly belive that depression is one of the main reasons behind school shootings. Taking SSRI and school shootings have a common cause - depression.

Do not abrupty go off the med. You need to wean (or also called taper) off. If your pills can be cut in halves or even quarters, start by decreasing by a quarter every 2 weeks. If your med cannot be divided (ex. a capsule), if you are on more than one dose of the med, a day - start by only taking 1 a day. If it is only a once-a-day dose. Start by taking it every other day for a 2-3 weeks. Then, once every 2 days for a couple weeks, then once every 3 days for a week or two. That will ease it out.

Antidepressants can cause aggression and agitation, much like amphetamines, in people prone to mania. Especially in a person with bipolar disorder (that may be an underlying illness yet undiagnosed in these individuals). Also, in withdrawal from SSRIs, aggression is definitely a side effect. The shame is that many doctors will say that the aggression is an exacerbation of the mental health illness. In reality, the aggression is either a side effect of being on the med. or a withdrawal effect.
