you can actually just go to iPhoto and there is already an option there to export the photos into iphoto if you already have your device connected. but i only found that out after i used the image capture app but thanks alot still

The technique he uses (using Image Capture) works for the iPhone 4...just tried it and it works. MacBoy Productions - many thanks, have been searching the internet for various 3rd party Mac Applications all night for a way to download a 3.5Gb file I recorded today. Little did I know that all I needed to do was to use a standard iMac application... :-) Cheers!

Perfect! I tried this a while ago on my iMac G5 and it didn't recognize the iPhone at all... but it worked perfectly on my work intel iMac. It's very nice to know I can have a physical backup of these images and videos (not just the weird data files from Apple's iTunes backup). Thank you for the info and the peace of mind!
