@drc1981 Is is, however, and optical illusion created by a staggered formation; i.e., the P-51 must be a good fifty feet nearer than the F-22 (don't forget that the latter is comparatively massive - the size of a Second World War bomber), the F-22 must be nearer than the F-15, and the F-15 must be nearer than the A-10. Otherwise, they would be sucked into one another by each's wingtip vortexes (and the three jets would likely choke one another for oxygenated air).

I will admit the Air Force was regretting not having any P-47N's left for ground support in the Korean War and was forced to use the P-51.

I believe that finishes any discussion except from those from the East who are so awestruck by their MiG-29's and Su-27's.

I still don't know why the USAF didn't go foward with the 'active" Eagle and put it into production.

Perhaps with the F-22 cuts...maybe be an idea?

I am hoping you are refering to the scrapping of the great carrier from WWII ? The only carrier to survive the war with a unbelievable combat record.

Very nice vid; an old friend of mine was a P-51 Mustang pilot in the war; he said he could get it up to 500 mph, but it shook "really bad" at that point, haha Simply amazing.

I agree with the F-15 but as for the P-51 no way!!! By the time the 51 came along in early 44 the P-38 n P-47 had already taken out most of the German air force. Its best thing was its range. And in the Pacific the Corsair, Hellcat, and the previously meantioned two, along with the Wildcat and P-40 had definately wiped out Japanese aviation.

Not true. The P-51 had more enemy kills than any other U.S. fighter in WWII. The P-51 didn't come in in 44, it came in 43 in the midst of the aerial conflict. The closest fighter to it was the F6F Hellcat. The P-51 made it's mark in Europe... thay were not used in the Pacific until our forces took Iwo Jima. The P-51 also went against much more experienced pilots. Japan's vets had already pretty much been wiped out. The Hellcat still doesn't come within 5,000 kills anyway.

The P-47 actually outscored the Mustang in Europe for sheer number of aircraft destroyed-the 56th alone had over 1,006 confirmed kills of German aircraft-the Mustang was a phenomenal aircraft when it came to dog-fighting, but very fragile-giving it a poor kill-to-loss ratio.

The Mustang has a 30:1 kill ratio... although it is very fragile. As far as air to air kills the Mustang has an estimated 10,000 enemy kills mainly in Europe. The aircraft that takes second is the Hellcat with 7,000.

oh and the f-22 has a internal weapons bay, which allows it to be stealthy. Although you can put estra fuel tanks on the wings.

the raptor has a thrust vectoring engine( it's engine can move up and down making it very monuverable) It has supercruise(can go supersonic speeds without using afterburners) it stealthy, and it has better avionics then any plane.

I respect your opinion, but I disagree. Think of it this way, would you rather have a 1972 Chevy Corvette with a modern engine and everything else being nearly 40 years old, or a brand new 2009 Corvette completely built from scratch using modern thinking, components, and technology. The 2009 would be above and beyond a '72 Vette regardless of upgrades done. All things must progress, and the F-22 will rule the skies for a long time.
