I have a Chinese SKS. It is fun and reliable, and a very cheap alternative to an AK or AR 15. It would work just fine for home defense as well, especially with the 30 roung magazines. Sure there are better rifles, but the SKS works for me.
My SKS is very accurate. I've setup empty water jugs [1 gallon] and accurately shot them and their 24 oz cousins from at least 350-450 yards, with iron sights. It just takes a steady hand, and a steady eye, but I can understand the TV issues. I wonder what explorers 400 years from now will think, of all the junk they find. Oh he was performing a religious ritual! lol. That is always their first interpretation.
I've been very satisfied each time I've shot my friend's (yugo) SKS, moreso than my other friend's AK. I've strongly considered getting one before the supply tightens up with the next "assault" weapons ban.
And now for my nagging gun safety tip: you guys should be shooting into a backstop. All of those misses appear to be rocketing into oblivion and possibly into someone else's property. Forgive me if there's something to catch the bullets off screen that the audience is unaware of.

They use 7.62x39mm - the AK47 round. CHEAP and Plentiful. Buy Wolf Ammo (Russian) though. American Ammo is expensive. Russian ammo is high quality but much much cheapr. Maybe 2.50 bucks for a box of 20
