I'm mutual on 3D I did like it at the movies when I seen Avatar and Transformers 3 but it gave me a dull headache which ruined the movie experience. While yes I agree it's cool and I would buy a 3D TV given I had the money just for the gaming and some movie experience. My girl friend hates it so we never see movies in 3D but I don't really care, it's not a big deal for me.
I got a 3D tv cause I absolutely love 3D Blu-ray and I wanted a good tv. I was looking forward to 3D gaming but it sucks and 3D in the cinema is shit. But 3D Blu-ray still manages to keep the crisp quality that you get from normal Blu-ray. I'm annoyed that there aren't much 3D titles available and I think that all Blu-ray movies should be 3D because you'll find that with most 3D Blu-ray movies, you get a normal Blu-ray copy and a digital copy, and its the same price as a normal Blu-ray copy.
i completely agree with you. as much as i would like to get a 3d tv, if it does become a household must have then it will be when it is glasses free, therefore i shall wait.
To tell you the truth I have never really experienced 3D properly such as in a cinema for example, I have only seen 3D in places like PC world and Currys, but even then it seemed not that great. If I had the choice I should rather watch a m
I like 3D only in theaters, and ONLY if it's a good movie, Like avatar or some cool special effects stuff... We don't need 3d in everything! First time I ever saw movie in 3d I said... WOW COOL... every other time, I could care less, I was in it for entertainment not for the 3d. If 3D disappeared from the face of the earth no one will miss it.
For instance; try wearing normal prescription glasses for the very first time in your life and tell me you won't get sick!! Off course you will, like any normal human being.
Nonetheless ALL of us "4 eyed" glasses wearers (including me) get used to it or in raaaare cases compromise with a poor eyesight.
@Isengardtom 3D is nothing like Blu Ray. Blu Ray IS a step in the right direction. Increasing quality of the content deserves to be hyped up. Blu Ray doesn't cause headaches, if anything it helps prevent headaches.
I would much rather see a film on a true IMAX screen then in 3d If any one reading this has an opportunity to watch a movie on a true IMAX screen it is way better then 3d.
Agreed. I can't stand 3D!! I have used a 3Ds before and I can't stand it. Personally, I think it looks horrible. 3D movies are ok, but it seems like every single movie is in 3D now!! Wonder what 4D will be like.
i remember watching a 3d movie in the imax theater in bradford many years ago and i think it was called dinosaur something. their was only a limited time that it was in 3d but the effects were awsome!! this was when i was still in my teens. but now as everybody has got used to the 2 dimensional equipment i don`t see the interest in purchasing this savvy thing. as if the tube goes in it par say. you are left with a unused tv that is costly
Yeah i hated 3d before and hate it now especially with having a weak 3rd optic nerve. The only things that ever did 3d right was a theater at bush gardens with the 3d glasses without the shutter. Just lens coatings. Also 3d comics but thats it. 3d games give me horrible headaches and ive even thrown up once cause of em. And if you cant view the glasses free kind all you get is blurry mess. No thanks at all.
sorry Dave but I can't stand people who hate on shit that they don't own.. only people that hate on apple are people who think that macs are overpriced which = they can't afford it.
If you don't like something don't buy it, you don't have to convince the world that it sucks when other people clearly enjoy it.
I wear glasses to see, and putting on 3D glasses over them is really not that uncomfortable, since they are usually big enough to easily fit over my normal pair.
Also, have you not yet gotten completely sick of that background? Not only are there much better (even stock) options, but I'd get bored with any wallpaper withing two weeks, at most.
This is just me but I'm completely sold on 3D. The home tech is still too expensive for me but I love watching films in 3D at the cinema, the extra level of depth to the image really immerses me in the film. As for the glasses I think they make 3D much more accessible and affordable for a lot of people as long as it's passive 3D; auto stereoscopic 3D TV sets are extremely expensive and the viewing angles aren't great and while active 3D sets are cheap, paying £100 for the glasses puts me off.
It took a long time for color TV to catch on. The first color TV was invented in 1928 by John Logie Baird. I guess it will take 3d a while to catch on.
Yeah 3D is rubbish and anyway a 3D tv is pointless cos there is no content worth talking about. Internet enabled TV is far more sensible. Its something people can see the point of.
Your eyes see in 3d so I can not see how the Nintendo 3DS is hurting people eyes. Games and films that were made for 3d and have not had it added on latter look really good in my view. Most films and games have 3d added on after being done so they look rubbish. Once the3d glasses have been put in to the bin and lots more things start getting made for 3d and not is added on latter 3d stuff 3d will really start to take off because things do look better when they were made for 3d only.
@DylRicho You could use that argument on just about anything for example;
broadband is crap. I won't waste my money on broadband internet. I've been viewing the internet on dial up for the past 16 years without issue, so why change now? Broadband can go to hell.
Toast is crap. I won't waste my money on a toaster. I've been eating non toasted bread for the past 16 years without issue, so why change now? Toasters can go to hell can go to hell.
I hate it, waiting for the hype to be over and I can't wait to laugh at the fools who paid extra for a tv with 3D capability when they probably will never use it.
It's all about the money...let me repeat it's all about the money.....$15 for 3D in theatre...their latest scheme is to release movies in IMAX 3D for $20 a week early first before it's out in 2D. You really think the industry give a shot about consumers. They 're out to make money and we're stupid enough to pay for it. They all use Real 3D glasses and not allowing us to re-use the glasses but pay again for bacteria infected recycle glasses for every new movie?
So was color TV all about getting you to go out and by a new TV when it first came around. Not many people wanted color TV and thought it was just a gimmick when it first came around because their was very little to watch in color just like 3d today.
I work at a movie theatre, and I have to agree. It's a pity at how the industry is pushing all these movies in 3D because they know they have one dimensional characters and plots. Or just to hash more money out of the consumer.

First the future is better audio, then is better image quality, now is a 3D feel, guess next is 4k and then real feel (4D as some cinemas call it)
only good 3D movies - Avatar & Transformers 3, otherwise it sucks!!!!! u have to pay $5 extra to view a movie in 3D and $1 for the glasses FUCK THAT!!!!!

i had the same point of view ....but then i watched arthur christmas recently...n i must say the color doesnt get dimmer....its well lit..there was no bluriness around the edges and was pretty clean nd crisp hence it wasnt straining the eyes....the stereographic technical team did a gud job...but any live action film which just uses 3d for marketting i hate that..i rather watch it in 2d !
Omg, guess what? YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE IT. go to a 2D screening of the movie. Don't buy a 3D TV. The 3DS has a depth slider that allows you to turn it off altogether! Just because you don't like it doesn't mean everyone else doesn't.
@MysticMikey The problem is they'll start making it as standard, and they're starting to make "Smart TV's" standard now too, so they'll claim amazing adoption rates even if people don't want them, because they can't buy anything without unless they go for older models. I can't stand it either, it's a gimmick. The only thing i see it working with is gaming, but even there it's a pain if you already wear glasses like a huge number of people do.
I hate it. I hate the movie trailers that announce it's going to be in 3D. I hate having to choose between monitors, TVs, or laptops that offer 3D because I would rather pay a lower cost, keep the same features but forgo the 3D.
simply do not care. Nothing 3d has yet to impress me enough to take any kind of a plunge. The closest was gokarting on Gran Turismo 3d on a 50inch LG 3D TV, but after about half an hour you jus wanna take off the glasses and watch normal tv. Fair City was on. good episode too.....
3D is a cool gimmick, but not worth the price and fairly pointless, considering the only Television service here in the US with 3D content is DirecTV, and they only offer four channels in 3D, three of which are payperview.
Fair play Dave, 3D is a load of boll0¢k§, the only way it will become viable is with holographic tech freely available to the public. I've worked in consumer electronics long enough to know that this is a fad and anyone who buys into it, is a sheep being led by the nose. Love the channel, and keep up the excellent work - a fellow irishman.
I hate 3D, so much so that I simply refuse to see 3D movies in theaters. I will also never purchase a 3D product. To me it's more money for something that degrades the experience.
I hate 3D, so much so that I simply refuse to see 3D movies in theaters. I will also never purchase a 3D product. To me it's more money for something that degrades the experience.
3d in the cinemar Is simply shit, but 3d on a tv Is pretty good, I find 3d gaming good on the ps3 but the 3ds is shit, but the only problem I have on a 3d tv is glasses, I have to wear 2 with a 3d tv, and it's slightly darkend, so yer, what the fuuuu
Back in the mid 80's I was fascinated with the whole 3D concept when it was coming to TV. Movies like "Gorilla at Large" & "Creature from Black Lagoon" were getting a special broadcast and you could get the special glasses at the corner variety store. I was enthralled with it even if it looked horrible!
Now it's so over done that the novelty has worn off. Some animated movies (Like Shrek 4) I thought worked okay, but otherwise, I can do without!
3D TVs are much better than the cinema, cinema is just shite! But for TVs its in a kind of beta testing phase, 6 or 7 years it'll be glasses free and viewable from any angle. You've gotta allow time to work out the bugs! For most people if you tilt your LCD screen its not viewabe, thats a bug only being fixed now! It'll get better and hopefully more sci-fi!! :)
Totally agree if by some chance 3d actually makes it, it will have to be glasses free. No one is gonna want to put on glasses just to watch tv. Think of how much you lose your remote now instead of that youll be sitting on your $50 pair of 3d glasses. just dont see it working.
I agree 100%, never liked 3D TV however watching 3D movie in a cinema is fun but on TV still not working well plus we do not need it, as Dave said we already living in a 2D virtual world so 3D is just scary and creepy at home.
I never believe in 3D technology. They do not add much. More important the content are just not there. Let hope that company start to listen to what customer want and stop forcing the issue. Great video man!!!!
I don’t hate 3D, I simply don’t care all that much for it & think it’s not worth all the hype if you’re not getting a clear picture. Speaking of which, I do happen to LOVE HD!! Get a good camera so we could see your beautiful face!
@blackpheonix200 Chris rambles to dang much lol and never really tells you much he just references articles on his site. im not here to read its youtube man.
3D sucks the big one . I wear glasses & to put those stupid glasses over my glasses ...there isn't enough booze to kiill this pain !!! Over priced , under quality , garbage . Great video Dave . Keep up the good work !!
I have to admit that 3D is just one new gimmick that never seems to die anytime soon. When I went to see Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon, it was awkward to watch because I wear glasses. So I had to wear glasses over glasses. WTH?
oddly enough, I consider it useless, considering I've personally never struggled to understand why a person standing further away is smaller without the need of an imaginative third dimension..
Great timing with the intro part Dave! Keep up the good work!
As for 3d, it's not a big deal. It gets old after watching for a while, and eventually starts to hurt my eyes. I'd take retina display resolution any day over a 3d screen.
3D won't take of until no glasses are needed and you can view the 3D effect from any angle without interference or loss of picture quality. Until then, it's simply just a gimmick. I own the 3DS, the effects are cool but the novelty wears off because you easily lose the 3D effect with the slightest movement of your head or the console.
I agree with most of what you said but the comment about how we don't need to be immersed further in digital entertainment was a bit silly. Immersion is a huge factor in video games and movies and developers/directors should strive to increase it. I agree though that 3D does not increase immersion.
I'm sorry but life (as long as you have two eyes) is in 3D. The point of television technology is to get as close to (or better than) real life visuals. 3D is therefore a crucial step in achieving real life visuals, and while the technology may not be perfect at the moment you can not deny that it vastly improves the visual experience. Watching Avatar filled me with awe because of the stunning 3D visuals dispite the plot not being the greatest of plots.
I fucking hate 3D, it puts me off going to the cinema.

Wake up mate and think about this historic summary:
Once upon a time there where noisy black and white images. They improved and got closer to the REAL image.
Suddenly these images got crappy and over-the-top colours, but soon enough these colours got better and more REAL.
Then the resolution got higher than the human eye can tell the pixels apart as the IPS screens you have mentioned almost with love ;-)
Now, in the quest to make it even more REAL, the only missing peace of the puzzle is 3D.

I can't stand it either, it's a gimmick. The only thing i see it working with is gaming, but even there it's a pain if you already wear glasses like a huge number of people do.

I hate it. I hate the movie trailers that announce it's going to be in 3D. I hate having to choose between monitors, TVs, or laptops that offer 3D because I would rather pay a lower cost, keep the same features but forgo the 3D.
doomtomb3 1 month ago
Well, the 3DS doesn't require you to keep 3D turned on and most people buy it for the awesome games, not the 3D effects.
But that's probably the only device that is an exception to the fact that 3D sucks.

Agreed - and I second charleswolfman.
Sure it's 'cool' to have, but as of right now it's impractical iThinks.
BTW - great opening Dave:-)

simply do not care.

I don't usually see movies in 3D, but Avatar, Tron Legacy and The Adventures of Tintin had fantastic 3D effects.

The timing of the opening was prefect! LOL

well said, looking for new tv 2d, not 3d does not interest me at all. 3d is just a gimmick.
emikes123 1 month ago
Totally agree if by some chance 3d actually makes it, it will have to be glasses free. No one is gonna want to put on glasses just to watch tv. Think of how much you lose your remote now instead of that youll be sitting on your $50 pair of 3d glasses. just dont see it working.

3d is a load of poo. went to a movie and didn't know it was 3d until i got the cinema. so i had two pairs of glasses on. sum buzz.

I agree 100%, never liked 3D TV however watching 3D movie in a cinema is fun but on TV still not working well plus we do not need it, as Dave said we already living in a 2D virtual world so 3D is just scary and creepy at home.

There are 3D Tv's from LG already that you don't need 3D glasses.
Besides that the 3D technology is there already and beyond..they just need to sell their crap models first..and then go on to the next stage..

I have to admit that 3D is just one new gimmick that never seems to die anytime soon. When I went to see Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon, it was awkward to watch because I wear glasses. So I had to wear glasses over glasses. WTH?

As for 3d, it's not a big deal. It gets old after watching for a while, and eventually starts to hurt my eyes. I'd take retina display resolution any day over a 3d screen.
spacekid407 1 month ago
3D won't take of until no glasses are needed and you can view the 3D effect from any angle without interference or loss of picture quality. Until then, it's simply just a gimmick. I own the 3DS, the effects are cool but the novelty wears off because you easily lose the 3D effect with the slightest movement of your head or the console.

Hugo in 3D was worth it - Scorcese is the one who cracked it.
sleepyskunk 1 month ago
