One of my facebook friends posted a U.S. map that showed in blue and red how each district's representative had voted. I live in Houston, Tx and there was only 1 that voted yes (Sheila Jackson Lee, of course). The majority yes votes in Texas came from the southwest part of Texas that borders Mexico...the map was solid blue all the way from El Paso down to Brownsville!! I have some thoughts about this, but I don't have enough characters left to say it.
Here is a cynical view of this entire process: They are all complicit in this. They knew they had enough votes to get this thing through so the votes that went NO they did to look good. It's a complete sham.
It's pronounced G-ao, by the way. And the reason Cao voted for the bill is because his constituents went barmy went he voted against the stimulus, so he thought by voting "yea" on HR3962, he would secure their support. Still, though, it was a dumb move--when he finally voted (he was the last one to vote) the bill already had the necessary 218. Now he's only going to get clobbered by his GOP colleagues.
We need a party that is principaled. If the Republicans can't become the party of principals they will remain out to pasture. If they can become principaled again they will have the house and senate again in 2010.
However, I believe the party is embracing its fringe a tad too much (See Scuzzafava fiasco). As for this Cao character, well, ultimately, Congressmen "care" (if you can call it that) most about their constituents, obviously only so that they may be re-elected.
I think the folks who voted for this will find themselves out of work next year regardless of thier party. People are re-discovering the real America, and our true heritage, and the principals that built this country and they're realizing our freedom, our faith (in whatever you choose, btw), and our constititution are all being destroyed and being replaced with the chains of Communism. Our history is being re-written right in front of our eyes, and I think folks are ready to push back.
