Hi there! Thanks for the videos, I really love them! I struggle with the "Doughnut" stage, the stage where I've opened up my piece, and about to make it taller with my hands, before I pull it up. I seem to get it off center really easily when I do it this way, and then when I pull it up, it's not consistent all the way around, because it was off centered. Thanks!
I love being able to throw decent pottery in my basic 3D art class I TA for. Considering I'm an attention whore I get my daily dose of "Whoa! That's sooo cool! How did you blah blah blah?" And it's all thanks to you (Tim) and Youdan. So thanks.
I love your videos. I now know the reasons why my pulling results in twisted and collapsed pieces! I still don't know how what to do about pulling at the top of the wall. I ease off on the pressure but then I have a fat lip! How do you fix that?
Just wanted to let you know how happy I am to have found you. I'm a newbie (about 1 year) and have been getting bored with all the other videos out there. Same thing over and over and over again. I'm loving learning about what I'm doing wrong as well as things to stretch my skills (I love the fake faceting videos!). You are a great teacher. I wish I lived near you!
@farragatish Porcelain is actually very soft and hard to manage. My uncle who does pottery on the side won't even touch porcelain because it's so temperamental. You can pretty much throw with any clay, and most schools have what you need.
These are the best videos I have seen on throwing. Thank you, I had a teacher who said when we begin to sound like a TV hospital drama-" Oh I think I can save it.
Oh no, let's try compression"., it was time to start with a new piece of clay.
@timseepots haha well then i think i need some of that cuz im not good enough to throw with porcelain without messing up and having to re-wedge a couple times before getting a full piece. The cost is just not realistic for me when im still learning although i love smooth clay
Thank you very much :D

If my school doesn't have porcelain, how would I throw? How soft should the clay be?
farragatish 1 year ago
@farragatish Use what you can get. It all works the same when you don't know what you're doing yet.

@finessewes9119 That is the same reason I have funny names for things like the flexible metal rib of death or elephant butt.
