I'm going by my ancient Greek professor (I'm taking it at Uni), the ensemble of academics on the Ancient Greek language, and of course Ancient Greeks themselves, from passages were rhymes can only work based on certain pronuncations. Yes, you are right, there are many dialects, both today and back then, but that does not mean that they sounded like modern greek.
Every language undergoes phonological changes and Greek is no exception.
The criticism is more that it was NOT the modern greek pronunciation. It's not a claim that I know exactly what they sounded like.
It is however worth noting that Greek is probably the only language that is close enough to its 2000 year old ancestor enough that one COULD use the modern pronunciation, but it doesn't make it correct.

I'm going by my ancient Greek professor (I'm taking it at Uni), the ensemble of academics on the Ancient Greek language, and of course Ancient Greeks themselves, from passages were rhymes can only work based on certain pronuncations. Yes, you are right, there are many dialects, both today and back then, but that does not mean that they sounded like modern greek.
Every language undergoes phonological changes and Greek is no exception.

The criticism is more that it was NOT the modern greek pronunciation. It's not a claim that I know exactly what they sounded like.
It is however worth noting that Greek is probably the only language that is close enough to its 2000 year old ancestor enough that one COULD use the modern pronunciation, but it doesn't make it correct.
It's a great video and kudos to its makers, but this is just healthy criticism.

The Hittites realized that the Achaeans were very powerful after they had some fighting , and from there on tried to play friendly with them. The Mycene Greeks settled in few areas of Asia minor , but most stayed in mainland Greece. The Ionian Greeks went to Asia minor from North Peloponisos in greater numbers. The turks did go to these lands as invaders 2.000 years later.
