why bury people in concrete vaults? This is insane, put them in a wooden box in the ground; they're going to rot either way, or cremate them. As to the vaults in this video, maybe that's a normal plan for expansion of the cemetary, why not ask the people who run the place?
I think cemeteries are a big waste of real estate in general, but the concrete vaults are mandated by law to keep the soil from settling and the graves from collapsing. Otherwise, you would eventually get sinkholes or even have bodies getting disinterred if there's a flood.
Those kinds of vaults shown at the end are actually pretty common in the rest of world, notably Latin America. I know this because I live in Chile and just buried my mother-in-law in one that is very similar.
Could it be that with the fast growing Latin population in California would want to bury their relatives in a culturally familiar way and a cemetery (as a business) is responding to that increase in demand by building one? I think that makes more logical sense.

I think cemeteries are a big waste of real estate in general, but the concrete vaults are mandated by law to keep the soil from settling and the graves from collapsing. Otherwise, you would eventually get sinkholes or even have bodies getting disinterred if there's a flood.

Those kinds of vaults shown at the end are actually pretty common in the rest of world, notably Latin America. I know this because I live in Chile and just buried my mother-in-law in one that is very similar.
Could it be that with the fast growing Latin population in California would want to bury their relatives in a culturally familiar way and a cemetery (as a business) is responding to that increase in demand by building one? I think that makes more logical sense.

Meaning instead of expanding it outward, they're expanding it upward to conserve space. I am not saying that there isn't some gov scheme because there may be to some extent, but if so, it isn't only FEMA.
