The juice from a juicer is the best. In liquid form your body is able to readily absord the nutrients. Not only that using juicing allows a person to take in more of the vit/min because it does not fill the stomach as easily.
I enjoyed your debate on this topic. Regarding smoothies however, you did not mention how heat can destroy important nutrients. Some of the blenders out there are pretty powerful machines that blend at lunatic speed thus creating massive heat. So what happens to all the heat sensitive vitamins and enzymes? My body feels good after drinking a green smoothie but one still has to wonder...

@ontheflymonkey yeah, good thought.. thanks. i think the very high speed blenders can ultimately make warm/hot soup if you let things blend long enough. the key is to pulse or just blend quickly to preserve the nutrients and also to surrender and not lose sleep over it. yeah, smoothies feel great! :)
Sorry to comment again. Thanks so much! This video was so helpful!! I was thinking, even though I'm saving up for a food processor, one would not find food- food processed in nature either. From what I understand though, food processors just break things down a ton and mix things together really well. It does not change the nutrition value, right? Any thoughts? Can't wait to make some recipes from your book!! :)
no need to apologize...we LOVE comments and interaction. that is why we make vids... to get people fired up! :)
food processors can be even more gentle than blenders and juicers. i would not worry about any nutrients being destoyed or anything as long as the machine is not heating things up for long periods of time. they usually stay relatively cool :) have fun with the recipes! thanks so much!
Another great video. I would love you to take on the subject and expand upon some of what being said in this vid about 'breaking down plant cell walls in raw foods'. Im sure youve seen the youtube vid 'raw v cooked'. Susan weed argues that raw foods contain little or no nutrition because the plant cell walls in raw fruits and veg cannot be broken down. She argues that only heat or fermentation can break these plant cell walls and not even blending or juicing raw foods can do it.
i have not seen this video. i would have to do some in-depth research to completely tackle this from a scientific standpoint. i do not, however, believe for one moment that nature designed our food to be unassimilable unless cooked. people's health and vitality ALWAYS decrease on a high level cooked diet, and then vitality and health increase on high raw food diets. my first questions is: what is she selling? chances are there is money to be made off telling people this...
... is she selling cooking equipment? cooked food coaching sessions? does she have hatred toward her own path and inability to stay on a raw food diet? guilt? there are a million questions i would ask of her intentions and background before i would give this a trace of credibility. it actually makes me laugh, but i will try to check it out... :) thanks!
You are absoulutely right!! I was planning on doing a short vid on the cons of juicing, but you have already done it...hmmm maybe I should still do it? LOL Great job!!
thanks so much! :) sure, if there were things we missed, make your own vid and post it as a response to ours :) if not, pass this vid forward! take care, magical days to you!
Hi Jules and Sarah..Wow! Another GREAT video. Especially for me with my Stomach stapled! I am so motivated after this one too that I have BOOCOO ideas to help myself and others Thanks! Will elaborate soon..Remember-Auntie Hal LOVES YOU!
glad this was helpful : ) we ahve viewers who are bulemic and anorexic and only can stomach blended or juiced food, so this is a really big topic. :) anyway, i will reply to your e-mail you sent shortly. working for a while and then talk later. love you , thanks for the comments! xoxoxoxoxoxox
I sweethearts! Love your stuff! I have a question about jujube fruit.... my friend recommended it for clarity... Can you elaborate on this fruit and the pros..cons...etc? I appreciate your help! Thanks and keep up the phen---work!
Hi there- thanks so much for the question and comments. i have heard that jujube is used for clarity, for people with fogginess of the brain, or alzheimers, etc...gotu cola and ginko are great herbs for this as well. see our video from a while back on jujube and please let me know if you have questions beyond that. be sure to do fresh raw jujube or else herbal extract form, not the cooked/dried jujube as the active constituents may be gone. thanks! -jules
Great video. Do want to add that it's not natural to have hundreds of nuclear weapons gone off in the atmosphere and being bombarded with EMF radiation and 100's of poisons in our food, air, and water that weren't there 100 years ago. So for that, we need something a bit beyond. Also, there are blenders in nature -- our mouths for one, but also, humans have ground things up and made soups and mushes and things for years with simple simple tools. A blender is just a fast one.
thanks for the comments.. :) great points! yes, people used rocks and handmade tools instead of blenders. granted, they were not 10 billion horsepower, which is what most purists argue with, but still...people have always blended to some degree i believe. we just feel people should stick with whatever they are comfortable with. if they hate the notion of a blender, it will probably not create health for them, as they willl internalize that. anyway, thanks again! appreciate it!
yeah childrens taste buds are really sensitive to bitter foods, I read that childrens bodies can think bitter foods are like posions. I personally never ate any leafy greens growing up but as I matured, It be came an aquired taste that I was more able to stand and take in.
interesting, we have never heard that they think it is poison. very intriguing. well, aspirin and medicine tastes bitter like that, so it is not so surprising, i guess. :) thanks for sharing!
and I don't say that lightly, this is honestly something that everyone can benefit from. Your points are so spot on here, so spot on. Masticating - yes, please keep stressing how important it is, chew your smoothies and your juices. People need to stop sipping and gulping them down, it drives me nuts. Slow and chew till your jaw hurts, lol. Hugs. Ps. I know you support the fact that I literally have to juice and blend due to damage... XOXO this is grand daddy papey signing out!
chew chew chew! so important. i have to remind myself every day cuz i love to gulp my smoothies. bad girl, julie. ha ha! thanks for favoriting our video. we will be posting your how to eat raw foods in winter video idea soon. :) great idea for a post!
It's either that or a feeding tube pumped with unnatural crap. No thanks. I do not use the fiber bits from my juicer for myself, I give it to my dog with his raw meat. I do get whole food fibers through through my food processer and Vitamix creations. Anyhow, I know I must do what I know works and be patient and gentle. What is meant to heal will heal. I have a lot of faith in God and healing. Anyhow, you bring up some really good pros and cons. I'm saving to favorites, this really good!
Another groundbreaking video. I have done intensive research on both these topics and you covered it very well Julie. Juicing and blending, story of my life. I felt like you were describing my dietary methods here. I am one of those people that agree to eat whole foods picked directly out of the ground. However, do to major damage eating disorders have done to my body I have to, atleast at this point, eat from Eden like that of an elderly - it must be blended for me or juiced. Continued'
glad you are good with the answer. its one of those tough questions we dont have the right to say do one, but never the other. all about balance, baby! :)
on a not so related note... whats your opinion on raw honey during a juice fast. i've read that the maple cleanse doesn't lead to a complete cellular renewal the way water fast and juice fasts do. yet i am not sure if honey can inhibit that.
while honey is essentially a whole food, complete with minerals and vitamins and protein, etc... i think it is best to stay away from during juice fasts. if you are just cleansing on whole raw foods, its okay, but for juice fasting, the pancreas really gets some rest and time off from all the heavy sugars, so i like to do just plain juice or water. especially if you do apple and orange juice, which provide plenty of sugars in themselves. we must give the body rest from sugar.thx 4 thequestion
thanx a bunch for the thorough answer. but that leads to another question. how to avoid weight loss on juice fasting. or at least too much weight loss :)
also there is some protein in juice so i have a hard time believing the digestion turns itself off as it does with the water fast
you are right, juice fasting will not turn digestion off to the same degree that water fasting will. but if you leave out the extra sugar like honey, you will still give more glands a rest and cleanse better. :) as for weight loss, that is complicated. most people only lose UNHEALTHY weight, such as material in the colon, toxins in the glands, unhealthy fat. even skinny, bony people can have unhealthy fat on them. this all goes first. the body does not get rid of healthy tissue...
...cont'd.... for no reason. it only will get rid of muscle and good tissue if you enter starvation phase during prolonged cleansing such as a couple of months, or even one month for some people. usually this is after a month and a half to 3 months, and generally on water fastin, not juice fasting. also, thin people may gian weight on a juice fast when their body has released all toxic material and then re-generates. hope that all makes some sense. the point is, dont worry. just listen...
...cont'd... to your body. if you need to cleanse, do some juicing or water fasting or maybe under the guidance of a naturopath if you are worried . always talk to one who supports these type of cleanses and is an experienced guide. :) later, alligator! p.s. the protein in juice is much easier than protein in whole foods. all whole foods must be broken down by the digestive tract into liqquid. so you eliminate a step. :)
great video! lots of helpful pros and cons to consider. i have type 2 diabetes and have heard that juicing is a no no. but i do the green lemonade once in a while for breakfast. do you think this is ok? it consists of 1 lemon, 1 fuji apple, spinach, some ginger root and some cucumber.
this juice sounds very fine, but it depends on your blood sugar readings. i cannot really say if it is okay or not as everyones body is different. you should read "The 80-10-10 diet" by doug graham. an essential read for anyone with diabetes. it explains blood sugars, etc.. and gets rid of the fruit fear. unbelievable book! check it out. i get no money for referring it. no worries. juicing can be tough because you have no fiber to slow the sugars into the body, but green juice should b fine
wow! thanks for this.. i will definitely look into that. i appreciate the help. i don't think that drink hurts my numbers. but i want to be careful. i like having that drink. it makes me feel good and i know that i am doing wonders for my system. i have heard that going raw helps reverse diabetes. is this true?
yes, going raw can help reverse diabetes. it depends on how people eat when they are raw and their physical activiyt, etc... people can be very unhealthy raw foodists if they live off all the packages sweet treats, too many nuts, chocolate, etc... but for people who eat lots of greens and fresh fruit, etc... it is possible to reverse diabetes (which 9 times out of ten is nothing more than a reversable syndrome that comes when health gets out of balance.) good luck with all of it! :)
well thanks. this does make sense. and i have noticed a lower reading in my blood sugar when i eat raw and well. i love it though. makes me feel good. i hate when i give in to cravings and make myself sick. but raw is like a bandage on that part. lol
..,.cont'd...pure veggie juices will have less sugar, so generally diabetics get anice benefit from juicing greens., the minerals can balance you out. again, it all depends on each person's system... :) hope that helps!
awesomeness ! the running raw guy says the same thing 'chew your smoothie till its warmer'. i love how you break this down .
With winter coming i have a question about frozen fruits and veg. i try to eat local so getting my plants in means mostly sprouting or frozen in winter. i was wondering how much life& nutes is left after freezing . should i just go head and buy some shipped in during winter ? Word
i asked this same question of someone a while back...is frozen raw? or does it kill nutrients? apparently, there are many factors. how quickly it is frozen will determine how much nutrients are left. very quick freezing yields more nutrients, and slow freezing, like a basic home freezer, yields a bit less nutrients. i think you would be fine doing a little of each...some frozen stuff (which is still better than cooked) and a little fresh shipped in. :) balance is good! thanks! peace..
