An hour day? that doesn't sound to bad. I would expect from any where at least 3 to 4 hours of rigorous intensive studying. Then 1 to 2 hours of revision for everyday of your pre med career.
This notion of how much a premed needs to study, and the notion that that amount is virtuous, may be in fact detrimental. We had a bunch of freshmen premeds in physics who all felt that the way to grasp a difficult subject was study - i.e., 6 hours per night of rereading and redoing problems, and yet the only ones who did well in the class were the ones who had taken a suitable physics class in high school. Somehow, failure to do real science started when they declare themselves a premed.
