I was just watching your The Caern vid. Curious, is the Corrie Folk Trio's Bill Smith related to The Caern's Tom Smith? Do I thnk I see a family resemblance between the two or is it just my imagination? :-)
This is incredibly beautiful! Although I live in California the Corries will always be my all time favorite folk singers. No one else can even come close their amazing talents -they literally touch one's soul. Thanks so much for posting!

Aw, man - this old CFT stuff is fantastic. I only saw the Corries once - at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh and have loved them since, but this stuff should be made a national treasure. Keep it coming!
Thanks your kind comments. Glad you enjoy it. This track was never released at the time. Maybe it should have been.! Thanks to Linda it has now seen the light of day.
Don t recall this song being performedfrom the time. What a wonderful arrangement . The song was my late father s favourite. He learned it during the war in West Africa from an Aberdeen loon. Brilliant!!
I think Bill's was the romantic voice of the trio, and his sweet voice appealed more to the ladies ears! (mine being included!). Lovely to hear this again!
That being said, cherrydavie,I feel yours is a very rash and cynical comment that should've been kept to yourself!
I agree anniesgranny2! it's very annoying when people post these useless hater comments on videos that everyone else seems to love. And they're ALWAYS there, on EVERY VIDEO! Makes us wonder why these people bother to watch videos they hate? Doesn't make sense to me. Obviously they're nothing but obnoxious losers who crave attention so badly that they feel the need to humiliate others to make them feel better about themselves. AND having too much time on their hands to do so!
Thanks for your kind comments. As a group we always favoured the softer, close harmony and more melodic treatment of love songs at a time when pop was busy arming itself with massive amplifiers and speakers that could blind. Glad you like them. Linda has more up her sleeve or wherever she is hiding them.
I don't agree! Bill Smith sang this beautifully! You could hear every word he sang very clearly, unlike some singers who sound like they have a mouthful of rocks when they sing. Thumbs down for your comment!
In the halcyon days of the television shows we received a letter from a lady in the Midlands thanking us for "putting the words back into the songs". I think she said it all.
Such a rare treat to hear! Bill Smith captured the essence and lovely vocal style of the world-famous singers of that era. He certainly should have continued as a soloist!
Coming from your grandad's Corries vault, are they? Hope it's an endless vault, for all the endless pleasure they're giving folks! The pictures themselves are a treasure!
So I see I'm not alone in enjoying these old gems by these three! Braw lads they were indeed, in their time. Love the classic pics as well! Thanks again Linda. Do also add a hug to your grandfather from me! :-)
I actually have a very rare recording of the CFT signing at the Fleadh Ceoil in Kilrush in 1963 courtesy of the late Liam Clancy. I doubt if he would mind you posting it.
Can't believe you dug this one up. Very nice nevertheless.
Fantastic! Brilliant harmonies here. This is a new one to me! Thought I'd had them all! Thanks for this one mandolinda6, your grandda will be a legend for finding these treasures!
It's a track on a very hard-to-find cassette issued in 1996 to aid Cancer Research. It features covers of Corries songs by a group called Spindrift. Ronnie Browne and Bill Smith provide forewords on the inlay card so they were very involved. Linda and her grandad have done us a service by giving this lovely recording a more general airing. Bill is in fine voice here.
A totally unexpected treat! The Trio at their tuneful best on a great old ballad. And, as you say, very difficult to find--your grandad's Corries vault must be very deep indeed.
I first heard this sung by the late Jim Reid (of the Foundry Bar Band and An Teallach) on his 'Wild Geese' solo album released away back in 1984. This is a great version too. :-)
OHHH! I LOVE this song! The only other version I ever heard of this was by Ewan MacColl....and this is better by far! Bill Smith has done this brilliantly!
Linda, please give *the keeper of The Corrie Folk Trio vault* a hug from me as well! ;)
Absolutely beautiful! Linda please give your granfather a big hug from me for finding these vintage gems! You mentioned on another vid that he is the keeper of your "secret Corries vault". So he's now the keeper of your "secret Corries Folk Trio vault" LOL tell him to keep them coming. I'd thought I'd heard all of their songs.........then you bring out these rare treasures for us! wonderful!
Thanks for uploading this...i never knew there was a corries trio...and ive been a corries fan since a tot x

Glad you like it. This was recorded at a stage in our development when we were innocently singing the songs we loved.
