Oct 71 I saw the Byrds at a college concert and literally sat at the feet of Clarence White during the entire show. Later after it was over, most everyone had left and the band packed up, I was very fortunate to have had about 15 minutes speaking with Clarence about his guitar, technique and himself. I found him very humble, soft-spoken, friendly and willing to discuss anything I wanted. He appeared a perfectionist in his work, down to his white unwrinkled dress pants. Experience of my life!
Hi again, when speaking with Clarence I asked about this (video) a TV special that I saw on PBS. He said "Yes, we had a real good time down in Nashville with Earl Scruggs and friends." Also asked about the cowboy decal on his telecaster "Oh that's Nudie, he makes a lot of funky leather goods for me." Known for his love of thick guitar picks, handed me the pick he had been playing with which was a small Fender pick marked on it "thin". I still have it. Still can't believe he's gone. A great guy!
@henrynevins My first Byrds show also had Commander Cody onboard, a loose brunette in a Goldcoast monkey coat, Hesterly armory Tampa winter 71. The woman and I drove back from New York the evening before and my brains NEEDED to hear that stuff. Today I know a little more about how to write, play andd sing. Mr White was born ALREADY knowin; it.
On one of my real early 4 tracks I did a version of TIME BETWEEN that is like a SOURCE POINT for me., and anyone who loves this stuff so much
i was born in '68.. 4 much older brothers and sisters.each favored a different style of record collection. But. the ONLY band that could call their collections "home" was the Byrds. Sisters loved the folk stuff of the early days. My brother had all the Byrds' country rock. and since the age of 9 i have played guitar seriously . I worshiped all things Clarence. byrds, kentucky colonels.
There is a small record company which seems to specialize in old Byrds material and side projects by members. Can't remember the name. They are probably the current source of this interview. They've probably produced or are distributing Byrds DVDs.
you can bend one string up and another down simultaneously- Jerry Donahue does it, see it on YouTube.
