This game had great colours. Realistic. And by having the backing colours duller, the important colours (such as your side colour) really come to the fore. If only more game visuals designers understood this.
for me, this game completely and utterly defined coolness. it didn't even matter that the A.I. sucked, this game came upon us PC gamers like a religion.
Although Dune 2 introduced me into RTS games, C&C definitely set-in-stone my love for them! Listening to this music brings a lot of nostalgia. My favourite songs: Act on Instinct and Warfare.
@GodHatesDonkeys I agree on one thing, Frank is the best music creator for games, however he managed (unbelievably ) to create a track better than any of the ones in cnc. But i still love the game and I always will. Think the name was Enter the Harkonnen in Dune 2000.
i remember playing this game and getting goosebumps from the hell march tune and the rest of the music was incredible and i love command and conquer red alert nod and the one with the terrorists in are great games i just love all what they have done with command and conquer
I would love to see someone remake this game on the same format, just improve the AI and unit controls. No telling how many times my attack force was oblitterated because I told them to go across a bridge and half of them go away and straight into an Oblesk of Light. 0_0
And yet, this game had the biggest influence on my childhood than any other game. I was so young when we got this game, I called Medium Tanks "Size Tanks" if that's any clue.
What was different about EA and Westwood was simply the immersion factor. Does anyone remember the cut scene where you attempt to rescue a trapped informant above a flight of wooden stairs? He was getting the tar beaten out of him and by the time you reach the door, you see the silhouette of his head get blown away by what appeared to be a very high caliber sidearm. I still remember that vividly and that was over 15 years ago. RIP Westwood, you are forever missed.
The soundtrack to my childhood. And the best computer game music ever. Better even then Red Alert. And brilliantly evocative of the high tech yet gritterly down to earth world of C&C with enough power to keep the game play flowing.
Frank Klepacki thank you very, very, very, very,..., very much!
RA has a great soundtrack too, but this here is almost unbeatable.
I'm addicted to CnC! But only the Westwood Games. EA has transformed it into bullshit, ok I must understand, the whole company produces only bullshit. :)
@RA9935 You only got 6 mammoth´s in the Beta version, when they released cnc they removed them so you only got like 1 construcion yard and a few expendable units (graneiders or something, don´t remember exactly).
me too, i tried reinstalling this game on my better and faster computer and the seemless framerate on such shitty graphics takes away from the feel, you need a sub shit computer to feel this game correctly. lol
When the enterprises think only in money they create bad games, that first Command an Conquer was the best game ever played, the missions, the graphics, the music...them only think in money "ok the first one a lot of people like it,lets create 10 command and conquers, is no matter if they will be good games, les think how make more money" (im sorry if mi english is bad) From Argentina
This is the demo. They wanted this to be easy for first-time RTS gamers. This was my first RTS and I became addicted to Westwood games after.
I remember playing the demo because the building and infantry icons have a sort of gray background. In the full version, you get more "scenic" pictures of the buildings and infantry.
Don´t ask me, the german fsk meant, it would be to brutal with blood ect. and westwood got to remove the blood or the game would have been forbidden to sale in germany... the same shit with the NES-Pistol, Nintendo had to change the colour, cause the fsk said, it would looks too real, like a real gun -,-
I've always wondered about that. Reducing gore in games doesn't reduce violence. Like in Half-Life, when scientists would just sit down after being shot, basically telling people who are supposed to be influenced by games (right...) that shooting people in the head just makes them sit down and sulk.
this game I played for first time on pc in 1995 by a friend. I was so amazed by it. now years later I bought it for sega saturn for only 10 euros and it's still amazing!
It's a shame that EA ruined the franchise... If I could go back in time, I would warn Westwood Studios not to let themselves be tempted by EA's money...
that last song i think its called looks like trouble, but that might be a different one... anyway, that used to be my jam, haha that and C&C thang or something. i was hooked on this game when i wasl ike 6.
Love this game even when graphics did not matter compared to what we have now. If you love it too I may mention that this game is being recreated and is released as a C&C Generals Zero Hour Mod on Moddb or you can also look up the "Tiberian Dawn Redux Trailer" on youtube here. ;)
I remember getting this game the year it came out - Frank Klepacki's music blew me away. It's a bit better than the Red Alert one but damn, everyone knows the Hell March :)
C&C Gold (for win 95) works on XP if you manage to dig up the patch on the internet.
I'd try it on the newer operationg systems too. Never tried it on DosBox as I dont have the dos version but I've used DosBox for other games of similar calibur so I dont see why it wouldn't work.
The game is now freeware. Just look up command and "conquer gold freeware" on google. There will be numerous sites for downloading the game+instructions on how to run it on XP. I have it on my XP right now and it is fully functional.
@DUDEDAMAN321 you can get the C&C The First Decade. "The games it includes are: C&C, Red Alert, Red Alert2, C&C Renegade, and Commander Generals" All would let you play on XP, and Vista. the cost is about $10 which is not bad of a deal...i have the game and it is a great deal...i still play it today.
