Is JJ really making a mistake in here? There's a tempo change (which also occurs in I don't need no doctor from the WTLI dvd) but it seems like all the members knew about it as if it were deliberate. John caught on, Dela knew to speed up, and everyone else. It really makes me wonder.

He sped up which John and everyone else obviously caught on to, seeing how it's pretty hard to ignore the drums playing behind you. it's not like John is gonna turn around mid-song and yell at the JJ for speeding up.. and what you're referring to in 'I don't need no doctor' isn't a tempo change, it's an intentional double time section.

@sk8ordie3895 It's really good, but there is a lack of energy. I think it's nowhere near the level of the studio or the "Any given thursday" version. Besides the energy, one of the main reasons is the urgency. In 2002, Mayer was still proving himself. There was a sense still that he hadn't made it yet. He was still hungry and wanted to show everybody. That feeling is gone now. It is that feeling that produces ones best work. Another example of this is "Born to Run" by Bruce. Pure hunger.

I have seen John Mayer live twice and countless number of videos on YouTube. If there's anything that sets him apart, it's that he always sings the song differently from the last time. Sometimes he sings a high pitch where it was originally low. Sometimes he extends a note longer than it normally is. It makes listening to him so much more enjoyable.
