Check your corners, and if your feeling clustered, try and roll out and run the shit and lure them out. and if you bother to read the signs on the floor that say, example "Boss Ahead" or "big Enemy", you know what to expect, so check your corners and pay sharp attention. I am not sure what your point is about getting gangbanged by skelletons. In demon's souls if you were an idiot you also got gangbanged by the enemies (e.g. The area after the tower knight) so I do not see your point. The camera and the lock on system is a bit annoying but still better than other games in similar genres... Anyway for me this is the 4th game that would get a perfect score (after Bioshock, MGS4, Demon's souls) this generation...

Completely disagree with your point regards the A.I, as do most others clearly.
It reminds me of games on the ps2 and earlier in that it is actually difficult and you have to be methodical about everything, first game on 3rd gen thats done that for me.
No enemy is meant to be taken lightly, yes walking into a room full of skeletons will get you killed and yes you are meant to take them one at a time, there's even a message in game players can give: 'try luring it out'
its not rewarding when your really bad at the game and don't learn, what is rewarding is the fact when you beat the skeletons you think "yes i beat these guys, they thought they were going to gangbang and i showed them who really does the gangbanging here!"
your too impatient if your getting mobbed by enemy's. rarely will they throw more than 2 at you and when they they do they are weak ones like those scrawny zombie things or just normal skeletons
and with large difficult enemy's if you take your time like you should be doing then you can always creep up on them to only gain the attention of one at a time

And Exploiting the AI Pathfinding is what you're suppose to do, every enemy is like a puzzle, there is a certain way to kill each enemy, this is no Hack n' Slash, its a strategy game! I play as a theif. they are stealthy so i can easily backstab my enemies (knives for the win!). im getting good at repostes, so yea, its hard but amazingly exciting.

I kind of regret buying this right before skyrim came out. Ive just got to undead parish after about six hours(bad i know) and i'm having a lot of trouble and not very much fun. do you think i should sell it or does it get better? i kind of want to buy assassins creed revelations but i also don't want to give up so fast. i got it new so i cant return it, so i want to hear people's opinions on what i should do.
After the first few deaths if your still stupid enough to blindly charge into a new room then you deserve to get mobbed and killed. I lost 20+ humanity and over 30 thousand souls once and I never made that mistake again.
getting caught by skeletons from behind is unfair? the game is in third person.... you can never totally be caught without at least a split second warning, someone just needs to get better reflexes to roll out of rape's way.
the deaths in this video are quite dumb, but i will say this game has it's shit, in some areas the frame rate goes down the crapper, the camera angle can actually kill you sometimes as well, some AI are really really stupid, like they roll or backstep off a cliff and kill themselves. Even with these flaws dark souls is one of my favorite games of all time.
This game sounds great- not sure if I should play demon's souls first though. i'm thinking it's ok to just jump into this one without playing the first?
@blackcath20 It may not be a bad idea to get the 1st one on the cheap first just to see if you can hack the gameplay in this series. If you can hack it, then you'll want to spend dough on the second one. But these game are not for everybody, so see what you think of Demon Souls first is my advice. (On the cheap.)
@CarlosJr812 OK- if it's just the gameplay warning, I should be OK. I mostly didn't want to miss any context in an ico / shadow of colossus type thing. I'm actually pretty psyched for the challenge and exploration. Someone said it reminds them of playing the first Zelda and I totally feel the same way- the challenge, the exploration, the community trading secrets- bring it on!!
that seems dumb to complain that you have to use range attacks to lure monsters so you don't have to fight a group. thats like exactly what you would do if that actually happened to you in RL(maybe dumb comparison but still). and undead monsters are supposed to be dumb right? if they are mindless undead then who cares if one of their buddies runs off for no apparent reason that they can tell. only having 1 monster in a room all the time would be stupid.
I'm 42 hours into the game and this review is a very good one. The game has flaws the review mentions and also some more that don't come up in the video. I'm thinking about the descriptions regarding the moveset of your character in the tutorial here. I beat Demon's Souls multiple times so I felt right at home but I can see that there are some shortcomings in this department for new players. That said, I still come back every day and can't remember the last time a game got me so hooked.
If your just diving in for the first time dark souls earns the 8.5 but like i said in previous post, if your a fan of the series you will def enjoy the improvements and rate it higher, shame people dont remember how hard games used to be, and now enjoy playing games that hold your hand and push you along to beat it
I agree with the score given, but as a fan of the series id add another full point just for that. Only gripe is the lock on, its shoddy at times but i lived with it in demons souls ill manage in this haha

I play as a theif. they are stealthy so i can easily backstab my enemies (knives for the win!). im getting good at repostes, so yea, its hard but amazingly exciting.

Clunky Controls?!!! Are you kidding me? These controls are absolutely spot-on, giving you the ability to strafe, flank, and precisely land calculated attacks and block easily. They are even comparable to the precision of Zelda controls, and thats saying a lot. Its your fault that you backed up off a huge cliff without looking...

@EVS2585 it wont be if u are using internet for secrets or walkthrough, stop being sarcastic.....when i bought demons souls it took me one year to discover most of secrets in game without internet, and about 1 week to pass first boss phlanx, but did that on my own, now my SL is 346 in demons souls and 126 in dark souls,and i can definately say its not easy.

well, yes it was more like hyperbole than sarcasm. perhaps its more accurate to say that the game is hard AND today's gamers are lazy. also this game was built with a community in mind - you may discover some secrets on your own (and share them with the community) while seeking help for others. i for one enjoyed being part of the original wiki crews and sharing & learning secrets as we were going along...

@EVS2585 so thats what i am saying, its almost impossible to know all secrets without internet, getting platinum trophy is almost impossible, i was only able to reach 78% without assistance, see any other game which can kick gamers ass badly, i found dark souls not that difficult coz i was very much experienced with demons souls, but i will not change my opinion that game is easy, and ya most gamers today just play for fun or little entertainment, and ya that sux,

@EVS2585 To be fair it isn't incredibly difficult like many say if you know what you're doing. New players will find this absolutely mind bending. Even if you aren't new it is still somewhat difficult. People either say it is incredibly difficult or not difficult at all and both are simply not true.

I kind of regret buying this right before skyrim came out. Ive just got to undead parish after about six hours(bad i know) and i'm having a lot of trouble and not very much fun. do you think i should sell it or does it get better? i kind of want to buy assassins creed revelations but i also don't want to give up so fast. i got it new so i cant return it, so i want to hear people's opinions on what i should do.

the deaths in this video are quite dumb, but i will say this game has it's shit, in some areas the frame rate goes down the crapper, the camera angle can actually kill you sometimes as well, some AI are really really stupid, like they roll or backstep off a cliff and kill themselves. Even with these flaws dark souls is one of my favorite games of all time.

I gotta say, I can see where this reviewer is coming from, but fighting the hordes of mobs isn't THAT bad. <.<
And the lock-on system isn't hard to get used to at all. Switching enemies can be a bitch while locked-on, but really, it's not that bad lol x.x

@blackcath20 It may not be a bad idea to get the 1st one on the cheap first just to see if you can hack the gameplay in this series. If you can hack it, then you'll want to spend dough on the second one. But these game are not for everybody, so see what you think of Demon Souls first is my advice. (On the cheap.)

@CarlosJr812 OK- if it's just the gameplay warning, I should be OK. I mostly didn't want to miss any context in an ico / shadow of colossus type thing. I'm actually pretty psyched for the challenge and exploration. Someone said it reminds them of playing the first Zelda and I totally feel the same way- the challenge, the exploration, the community trading secrets- bring it on!!

that seems dumb to complain that you have to use range attacks to lure monsters so you don't have to fight a group. thats like exactly what you would do if that actually happened to you in RL(maybe dumb comparison but still). and undead monsters are supposed to be dumb right? if they are mindless undead then who cares if one of their buddies runs off for no apparent reason that they can tell. only having 1 monster in a room all the time would be stupid.

wtf is he talkign about? You can pulll enemies in dark souls 1 by 1, you dont have to be swarmed.
Only sometimes there are a group of enemies that will attack you but they are in a open area anyway so you can dodge.

I'm 42 hours into the game and this review is a very good one. The game has flaws the review mentions and also some more that don't come up in the video. I'm thinking about the descriptions regarding the moveset of your character in the tutorial here. I beat Demon's Souls multiple times so I felt right at home but I can see that there are some shortcomings in this department for new players. That said, I still come back every day and can't remember the last time a game got me so hooked.

dude, demon's souls battles with enemies were mostly 1v1!
that's what made it super easy! i was SO happy that dark souls lure you in more traps where multiple foes attack you!
it's something challenging!
game trying test you in dealing with multiple foes! and being cautious in exploring new places!..
any learning player can easily take on multiple enemies!
the game throws at you many weps and spells to assist you! Bone fires to assist.
but it seems reviewer misunderstood the game..

If your just diving in for the first time dark souls earns the 8.5 but like i said in previous post, if your a fan of the series you will def enjoy the improvements and rate it higher, shame people dont remember how hard games used to be, and now enjoy playing games that hold your hand and push you along to beat it
