  • Has there ever been a voice like this? Answer: No.

  • @TeteFutuito never was- never will be- lucky us:) enjoy,

  • I thought I had seen all your videos Lenore and I find for some reason I missed this one. It is wonderful!! Love both the songs. As you know Johnny can do no wrong!!!! It's already in "my favourites"!!!!

  • @mathismagic37 - funny you should say that, Carol, about missing it ,It was tucked in amidst my live videos yet to put up and it was dark - so did not open it for the longest time- finally when i did- what a surprise! I love it as well! Of course he is golden in our eyes- but this is outstanding! (how often do we say that?? LOL!). Glad you found it:) enjoy

  • just found this today, the older Johnny gets ,the more beautiful the voice and the more handsome he becomes

    Thanks so much

  • @vandasvideo -yes, yes and yes! I'm glad you found it- it's a wonderful pairing of songs- and shows his diversity- you're welcome! Enjoy:)

  • What fun!!! He looks like he enjoys singing this song, as much as we like watching him. How beautiful after all these years. He's still the best. Love ya John.

  • @internetmimi - so glad you're enjoying it- hard not to- i love these two songs together- such a range- . He is by FAR the best!

  • a fan since 1959 when i saved to buy his LP "Faithfully".........still perfection in everything he sings..just perfection

  • WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @lovethediscogirls - Pretty on target response! I heard he sang In Love for the Very First Time very recently- just like this- the big finish and all- he is ever lasting- and terrific. Both great songs. Enjoy

  • I sang this in 'Search for a Star' in England and secured 2nd place. Its a great orchestral arrangement and such fun to sing!

  • @newgeneration123 - congratulations! both great songs- you might be talking about Love for the Very First Time- I can imagine that would be a fun song to sing- I already get that 'vibe' by listening and watching Johnny here- thanks for sharing! enjoy

  • I'm In Love .... is one of my favorite Mathis songs.

BTW, there is a video downloader I'm using that will download and save all of these great JM videos. It's called savevid and it's a free download.

  • @catinhotlanta Not only a wonderful song- but oh, how Johnny looks! This is a great duo of songs- they are such a great example of the range of his work. Thanks for sharing the downloader tool. Good to know.!

  • He is wonderful! He can sing anything. Thank you.

  • @mimibella12 - really- and truly- just anything - he puts his whole self into whatever he sings and makes it his own. This was a great performance- you can see the diversity right here between these two very different songs. enjoy!

  • Johnny Mathis is amazing. He sounds as beautiful as when I first heard him.

  • @alyrial - Not long ago in an interview, I think it was related to Johnny's last CD, Night to Remember, Dionne Warwick said- he is one of very few people who not only endure- but get better and better. What a great following he has- and often- many people who write here are of a much younger generation- so nice to see that appreciating great music and quality has not age boundary, Enjoy!

  • WOW Ive never heard this before...ONLY Barbra singing this from Yentl...WOW he was incredible!!!!

  • @sandiegosinger - you are enthusiastic!- i'm 'with' you. Glad you found it. I love it - I was listening to some interviews of other singers describing him recently- and one of them said ' he has a certain vulnerability' to his voice" - This song is a perfect example of that quality expressed. Enoy!

  • @sandiegosinger

Ask Barbra who she considers the best male "pop" vocalist of the entire 20th Century, and you just, just might here Mathis. Mathis. Mathis!!!

  • wow.....what treat for the live audience that night!

  • Agree! Would've been great to have been there that night- very special. Glad you like it- enjoy.

  • Wow!!! THIS is why Johnny is so GREAT! I never dreamed I would see him do "In Love for the Very First Time" live! Let alone in 1993! Wow!!!! I'm thrillllllled!!!!! :-D

  • I love it too- i was so excited when I found I was able to share it- both songs are terrific- show Johnny's diversity of emotion and style- . SO glad you are enjoying it!

  • Hey~! Where's my dance partner . . . ?

This definitely wasn't a JM tune. But good anyway.. .

  • Anyone who likes to dance will have no problem getting the rhythms here. Johnny takes any song he sings and brings his magical qualities and THEN it becomes his! This is more than good- that's a major understatement.

  • Gosh I have tears in my eyes. John will always give me goosebumps. He is my hero for all time!

  • right with you! beautiful pairing of songs. So glad you found it here. Enjoy.

  • Lenore...Thank you so much for sharing this video...He is and always will be the most romantic singer in the world! I have been listening to him since I was 3yrs old!!! Parents loved him to! I would lay on the floor near the door at bedtime so I could hear the music in the next room...lol

    Linda

  • you're so welcome! I love to watch it over and over again as well. Great way to go to sleep as a child:)

  • Thanks for posting this video!! Absolutely Love Johnny Mathis. He is a master at his craft. He absolutely was NOT lip syncing.

  • I'm so glad you like it- you're right- this is the REAL thing! One can't put their whole self in and fake it.

this is a very special video and I was thrilled to share it. Thanks!

  • Johnny Mathis makes me feel like I'm in love for the very first time. Thanks to you and your generous friend for sharing this exquisite video for all his fans to enjoy each and every day. This is definitely a 5 star.

  • great reply! He does weave the 'web romantic' - doesn't he. So glad you like- a real pleasure to share it. Thank you for the rating:)

    -Emile

  • thanks for dropping by Emile- glad you like it.

  • Just a note for all you Johnny Mathis fans.......June 9th there will be 5 old Mathis LPs released on CD! Rapture.............UP UP and Away.....and a few more!

  • Thank you for sharing the information-! These are being being released by Collector's Choice. Enjoy.

  • Lip syncing????? NO WAY!!!! I'm not saying Johnny Mathis hasn't lip sync'd. On low budget t.v. shows they couldn't afford to hire musicans, yes Johnny Mathis had no choice but to lip sync. Other t.v. shows use recorded music that Johnny sings live over. The Tonight Show, starring J. Carson thru J. Leno's stint, have had a live band. This performance, had an orchestra. Strange to hire all those extra people just to have Johnny Mathis lip sync. I bet my life on this one, live, NOT lip sync.

  • i would have to agree- that there is no possibility that Johnny is lip synching- he is singing 'full out' for real.

  • Hi, Mystic47

I´ve been a JM fan for 50 years, I love him as much as you do, believe me.

But look closer, pay attention to the small lip movements, compare them to what you hear. I´ve seen things like singers lip syncing just because they didn´t feel well or think their voices were not 100% that evening, things like that. If that was the case, as I said, no big deal, I´d let it slide.

He is and will ever be the greatest singer that ever walked on Earth.

    All the best,

  • If you are judging lip movement and sound from this posting, thats where you might be getting the wrong impression. Internet speed is causing that difference. I happened to watch and record this particular appearance, There is no timimg issue with voice and sound on my recording. Second, usually lip syncs require using the studio recording which in this case was done in the 60's Johnny was in different voice back then from this later performance.

  • Yes, while I encourage people to express themselves in relation to these videos- I would appreciate this being put to rest. Johnny is far too professional to do anything but sing 'live' on these particular shows. He has over 30 years' history on the Tonight Show- and has no need to do anything but be his pure self. I'm glad you are enjoying it.

  • Yes, Lenore and Mystic, think you are right. The milisecond image/sound diference caused the wrong impression.

    Thanks for the clarification

Please keep posting those wonderful videos,

    Love,

  • Thank you Lenore, for sharing this very rare video. I am under the impression though that JM was lip syncing. No big deal, he´ve done that a few times before.

    Thank you again,

  • thank you, i'm glad you enjoyed it- this is very unique.

  • AWESOME! This one is very SPECIAL to me and I do have it recorded. I met Johnny Mathis backstage less than a week after he performed this on Jay Leno. Yes, he signed my CD (plus more music) that is being promoting on Leno; "How Do You Keep The Music Playing." Thanks for this wonderful memory you've uploaded on YouTube for me to enjoy with a 'click.;

  • thanks for stopping by- really glad you like it (who wouldn't??). Great that you met him- how special.

    enjoy, enjoy.

  • Really enjoyed seeing this. There are so few videos out there of Johnny, in the nineties. Thank you and your dear friend for these songs.

  • Thank you- i'm so glad you like it - I was thrilled to be able to put it up for everyone. I will definitely pass on your 'thank you' to the person who shared these.

    Enjoy!
