Falling into the hole of religion or ideology, thus trying to impair and change true knowledge will ALWAYS lead to a failing society. Not once has a purely religious country, or pure ideology driven country produced progress for mankind. Let's fight these silly ideas with everything we have, even ridicule

I'm American and I'm brilliant. Furthermore, out of all the people I know and associate with, only a handful of them believe in dumb things (i.e. creationism). Most people are actually pretty sharp, and I live in Mississippi for fuck's sake!

I think it has to do with how much rural land we have. We have a lot of country-folk in this country who don't have access to good education. Unfortunately this minority represents my country. It's sad.

i dont understand how you can believe the bible AND evolution tho. i myself am a former christian of 21 years who is now an atheist. I know enough of the creation story to realize that evolution and the biblical creation completely differ from each other. Now if your a christian, believe in evolution, and just dont believe the creation story of the bible how can you not realize that the bible is fallable and if it is, everything else could be false including Jesus.

@autopsy87 You can't believe that Genesis 1-2 is more than metaphor, but not much else in the Bible is contradicted by the theory of evolution. Certainly there's nothing in evolution that contradicts the story of Jesus (unless you drill down into the 2nd law of thermodynamics, but that's what miracles are for). Thus, you compromise on the creation of animals, and yeah Adam wasn't made from clay, but the REST of the Good Book is mostly true.

I am always infuriated by Creationist Christians who look at televangelists who they already know use their influence to decieve people and say "Oh well he's just not a true Christian like me. I would never do that to people." But they refuse to see that they believe the exact same things as those fake-ass liars!

@ikinmoore The trouble with that theory, is why do most Nobel Laureates in the sciences come from the US? (to respond to others they are NOT creationists). Kenneth Miller suggested in "Only a Theory" that it is because Americans are not respectful of preconcieved ideas, but he doesn't give alot of support for that claim.
