  • I Liked out of principle. I don't know anything about war, but I can't even imagine how this could be offensive.

  • I remember my first shot, good times :]

  • What is the world coming to when people find THIS offensive? And I would seriously doubt any Normandy veterans find it offensive. That generation suffered though the Great Depression, then they survive that battle, and that war. I'm betting they have pretty thick skin and don't get themselves in a tiff over something like this. I clicked on the profile of two of the complainers, and both were in their 20's. Who are they to say this is offensive?

  • if you've ever served in the military, you would know that this isn't offensive.

fucking civilians and their pussy bullshit. lol.

  • Kayak should get new advertising executives.

  • Get a fucking clue people. I'm sure they all respect the dead. I know I do too. At first, yeah, I thought: ...Normandy? Iwo Jima? Then I saw Cancun and went: ...lmao. I have the utmost respect for anyone who died or suffered through war, but sometimes, you gotta laugh at some of the small stuff. If a lot of people's grandfather's who served in the war are laughing their asses off, then that's a tell-tale sign that it's okay. Get a fucking grip and STFU. People just need to stop being so uptight.

  • omfg this is funny!

    Normandy...or a vacation? XD

  • Is the man playing Grandfather the actor Cliff Robertson? It sure looks like him.

  • This is stirring, far beyond mere advertising, just an emotional grabber that stands on it's own as 30 seconds of genius: all of what a great movie has; actors, script, direction, casting, etc. (grandsons eyes and demeaner are fifty percent of the enchantment). I cried the first five times I saw it and I had no idea of its context, I thought it was just a grand remembrance of Normandy, 1944, and still do.

  • Anyone offended by this brilliant commercial needs help.

  • I had no idea this add was controversial. This has got to be the funniest add add I've ever seen. I dont understand at all how this is disrespectful.

  • this is one of the greatest commericals ever. makes me laugh everytime i see it.

  • Why is everyone getting so pissy over a funny commerical? My grandfather was captured, tortured, starved, and beaten in Normandy and he laughed his ass off.

    Calm down.

  • Those of you boycotting this ad because of a perceived possible anti-vet agenda - obviously do not understand the humor of the ad. Look at what he's packing and listen to what he says, IT'S A PLAY ON WORDS. He's speaking of a drunken summer spent in Cancun as a young man, not the shores of f--king Normandy.

  • Any time an advertiser has to censor comments about its advertising, it's a strong signal that something's wrong with the message. Wonder if Kayak's investors are watching these jerk offs squander their money.

  • All those chiming in to claim that their LIVING dad/uncle/grandfather got a laugh at the commercial, now I want to hear from the sons/daughers/grandchildren of soldiers buried at Normandy. Let's hear how funny they think it is. This isn't just about soldiers, it's about respect for the dead. Clearly the Kayak company doesn't have any.

  • Excellent point justlaugh, shows no respect for those who sacrificed their lives. This commercial is an outrage & I suspect that's the idea, get people talking about their company. I'd like to think this CHEAP publicity stunt will backfire but it probably won't, just read the comments on here. If something can make them laugh, they feel entitled to it, and that trumps anything else. To hell with the feelings of families who lost loved ones on those beaches. Getting that laugh comes first.

  • not the same. those buried are unable to watch and laugh alongside the rest of us.

  • The most tasteless TV commercial I've ever seen and since I spent 25 years in advertising you can be assured the bar on my tolerance level is set very high. Have to believe Kayak anticipated public resistance and that's part of their strategy, to gain publicity by capitalizing on public defense of dead veterans. For shame, Kayak, you give all advertising people a bad name.

  • @justlaughinthru You need a life!

  • Time out. This is the most creative ad in years, Look at the white patent leather loafers he is packing. After the first shot (of tequila), everything was a blur (hangover) bombshells everywhere (blond bombshells). Look at the face on the young guy as he listens and ponders the old man's words.. Brilliant. If you ever went to Cancun in the 70's, you get it. If you did not go to Cancun in the 70's, sorry dude.

  • It's funny; I first saw this with my grandfather, a vet who fought on Iwo Jiwa, and he laughed harder than I did.

  • yall are so stupid!!! he aint talkin about war!

  • Tasteless and repulsive

  • Skip Pipo and that cat portrait wall plate were what interested me in this commercial.

  • That is bad. I will definitely avoid this company. We need to honor our veterans not make fun of them.

  • Calm down. It's a commercial and a damn funny one

  • any person offended by this commercial needs to get a life and lighten up.

  • ya big knucklehead in the face

  • This commercial was filmed at a 125 year old historic estate in Altadena, CA..The Kayak company did a superb job! My father who is retired Air Force thought it was funny! I hope they re-air it!! Good work Smuggler Films!!! :) (the guys who did the stock commercials with the babies talking!) Hilarious across the board!!!

  • I would like to know the song used in this add, can someone help?

  • The song was created specifically for this ad.

  • I was talking about the song used on the tv commercial, because this one is different.

  • It's the same soundtrack and video as the one used on the tv commercial.

  • I agree. This commercial is very clever. And people who think it's disrespectful need to lighten up. It's meant to be witty.

  • you are one dumb fuck you know that? yea fucking war is witty and meant to be made fun of or made as a joke. good job showing how fucking stupid you are.

  • This is a really clever ad,

  • damn another dumb fuck! are you a guido or something who is just fucking retarded. you cannot fucking refer to a situation like WWII and find it clever for a fucking cancun or kayak ad. tasteless and disrespectful.

  • Some say that they would "Venture A Guess" that others in the military would not find this film offensive. Some say that if you haven't wore the uniform you are not qualified to comment on the video. That pride and honour and love of country are only for those who served and I know nothing about.Every day I wake up I am thankful for my freedoms.I live my life and raised my daughter based on Honor pride and love of country.I know men sacrificed and continue to sacrifice for me and I am Thankful

  • YouTube is clearly withholding comments back that oppose this video. They are fostering a trend that is not healthy. If I have something to say though its contrary to what there sensor believes in they will not allow the comment....What a disgrace

  • Youtube has nothing to do with it.

See the name of the person/group that put this video on Youtube? It's Kayak.....the company the commercial is made for. Don't you think they might want to get rid of negative comments towards their commercial?

When anyone puts a video on Youtube they have the right to take off any comments they please.

  • Brian Dennehy.... hahahahaha! OMG! I laugh everytime i see this!

  • the look at 0:25 priceless...... Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!

  • It's not disrespectful. It's a commercial and its funny, get over it. My entire family is made up of veterans from Afghamistan Vietnam and WW2, all thinks its funny. It's people like you who make life worse for all of us. Guy who doesn't get jokes and just wants to complain to be heard. I'm so annoyed I had to repond to ur unintelligent comment. Good Luck in life douche!!!

  • WOW, The best commercial I've seen in like forever. It really draws you in and whoever came up with it is, or should be given the best commercial award for the decade.

  • That deserves best commercial award like Tiger Woods deserves Best husband award of the century

  • That's my uncle Ryan. He is the man. Some of you might know him as the grandfather from AMC's Mad Men. It's ironic that he's playing a vet since his father was one, but he never served in the military.

  • Comment removed

  • Anyone who's been to Cancun knows what this guy is talking about.

  • FunAndRerunTv, you need to lighten up. Look at the commercial as a whole, it is funny as hell.

Are you in the military? Are you a Combat Veteran? Have you showed this to those who were there at DDay? Well I am a Combat Veteran, and I showed this to my great uncle, he didnt find it offense, he just let out a small laugh and shook his head with a smirk on. If they can find it funny and not bitch about it, you should too.

  • Hilarious video. A lot of men died during the D-Day invasions but I dont see how this commercial is poking fun at their sacrifice in any way. People who take offense to this can find a way to turn any compliment into an insult.

  • Screw Kayak. This commercial sucks.

  • An amphibious landing to most people is swimming up to a bar set up in the middle of some swimming pool.Tarawa ,Guadalcanal aren't those battles Napoleon fought? battles Napoleon fought?

  • Research the Battle For Tarawa over 1100 United states marines were killed in three days of fighting. That was just one of many battles the Marines suffered large losses in Pacific war battles for our freedom. We need to show at least a little respect for these men.I know the battles are over 65 yrs old but they still happened.

  • Not offensive, but the old guy is a total asshole

  • I love this video! If you're offended...HAH I say to you. Get over it...it's classic.

  • I'm sick of thin-skinned people trying to read an offense into every little thing.

  • this commercial's freakin amazing

  • Get the hell over it, people. It's a harmless fucking ad. Bunch of idiots you are.

  • Someone's offended at this? Get the hell over it. It's a lighthearted ad, ffs.

  • it's NOT a funny commercial, and it IS offensive, and I'm GOING to bitch about it. I'm only 20-years-old, but i have respect ofr the men who died on the beaches abroad. you punks who comment on this video and say that it's "no big deal" should have a grenade shoved up your ass. no doubt you're a xbox 360 playing, twilight reading, 'i'm a loner yet a rebel' bitch. you need to get over the fact that there are people with respect in the world. you should also try it sometime.

  • Right funandrerun, it's not funny, it's disgraceful & disrespectful of our military & the sacrifices they made FOR US!! What fungus crept into the brains of these Kayak marketing people & you people enjoying this ad? How hollow are your hearts, amused at the expense of war veterans who charged the beaches and took bullets AND DIED to keep us free and safe. Where is your appreciation? They deserve reverence and respect and honor...but I realize these are concepts only mature adults can grasp.

  • Inchon,'Guadalcanal,Iwo Jima,Saipan,Tarawa, peleliu,Okinawa,Omaha Beach, and so on.Who ever thought that these would be fair game for jokes. These battles were fought for freedom, for friends, for family and for the soldier next to him. Pride, honour, family and love of country used to be the norm. However unfortunately we face a bigger enemy more savage then those our brave soldiers faced on those far away beaches. The savages we face know live among us.

  • I wore the uniform for 8 years and I think this commercial is not only clever but hilarious!I don't find it at all disrespectful to our military. I would venture a guess that most military people that see it think it is funny too. it always cracks me up how those who have never wore the uniform like to proselytize about that which they know nothing about.

  • i have heard from others who were in the military that maybe Kayak was refering to other Beach landings such as Inchon or Khe sanh.Thow I never served in the military I know Khe sanh is not an Island and has no beaches.

  • @cappyjones Probably cause people in the military have a sense of humor compared to people who just read history books about war and think they know everything.

  • you're the kind of faggot we shouldn't have sacrificed our life for.

  • excellent commercial not offensive..dad is retired air force he loved the commercial..The commercial doesnt even hint disrespect none whatsoever......Rock on Kayak!!

  • I don't give a fuck if it's not "really" offensive. It's mind-numbingly stupid, and all you assholes laughing at this could probably get a laugh out of anything.

  • This is GREAT! I love the joke here. To quote an earlier poster "The advertisement is not suggesting that the guy is a veteran. The viewer initially thinks that it is about WWII, but then suddenly realizes that the beaches are those of Cancun - the shots are shots of tequila - and the bombshells are women."

Do you get that? Those of you who are offended?

  • Comment removed

  • i called the vfw over this commercial. i find it odd every group in the country looks for a reason to be offended, and thats fine with liberals. but vets real anger is shunned by these fools.

  • Too many whiners. It's a funny commercial, quitcherbitchin' people. My grandfather took part in the Normandy invasion, and while he isn't alive now to give me an opinion on this commercial, I'm betting he would have found it amusing.

  • D day and Normandy are anything but Funny.

The men who died there should not be mocked for air fare...

If you don't care about this sort of thing as a company... why not make your next commercial terrorists booking a flight to new york?

  • Get the hell over it, people. It's a harmless fucking ad. Bunch of idiots you are.

  • There is absolutely nothing offensive about this commercial. It's damned funny and some of you need to get off your high horses.

  • very corky don't see no point in it

  • Borderline tasteless. It will fit in well with modern American culture.

  • Well, it's somewhat amusing, yes. I do think it makes light of a terrible battle though, but that's just my opinion.

  • I find very few things offensive, and I mean VERY few, but when you insult some of the bravest men in history who died to defend your right to make this very commercial, that is too far.

  • How does this commercial insult anyone?

People really need to stop looking for excuses to get offended.

  • Amen to that. I'm sick of thin-skinned people trying to read an offense into every little thing.

  • whoa. i had just read the book in my english class that this is off of..

  • he's talking about d-

    day isnt he

  • I can't watch this and not think it's making fun of the troops who died at Normandy...but that's just my opinion.

  • Mocking Normandy... Hmmm. Y SO SRS? Well, my grandpa was there. He was a good man. A lot of those guys didn't come back and wouldn't find this funny at all. You say I have no sense of humor... I say you have no sense of honor, pride or respect. Watch some video footage of those men being killed obn the beaches but still running toward the fire to free France. It was real. This is a mockery of a sacrifice you will never understand..

  • great!!!!!!

  • You %$#$ing knew! Chuck Ramparts Shark Attack 3!

  • Great commercial!

  • Holy smokes, is that Chuck from Shark Attack 3?

  • This Commercial is excellent. Please keep running it. You will generate far more business if you keep running it. It's in now way shape or form in bad taste. Don't even think twice about the people with no lives that are crying about.

    Remember publicity is publicity.

  • i think people should just loosen up. It's advertising and people just want to make creative ads.

  • If THIS offends you, you have bigger problems. Wow.

  • @klatica i couldn't agree more...

  • Way to shoot yourself in the foot, guys.

  • LMAO!!!!!!!!

  • I find this commercial objectionable-after sending feedback to Kayak I was told:

"We've pulled the ad for right now -- mostly due to the Fort Hood

tragedy, but I do expect to start airing the ad again, along with some

other ads we're about to start airing."

Kayak-I would appreciate if you could elaborate on how you're able to realize what a terrible tragedy the Fort Hood incident was, but at the same time are unable to see that the Battle of Normandy and WWII itself were also atrocities.

  • amazing commercial, very funny. My grandfather served in WWII and he even thought it was clever.

Some people are so up tight. If an add like this bothers you, theres far worse going on in the world, why don't you get off your computer and go make a change instead of whining on youtube.

  • That commercial is in incredibly bad taste

  • shameful... i won't be using Kayak

  • Disrespectful? Give me a break. My Grandfather who is a proud WWII veteran would LOVE this commercial! I think I'll show him when we meet for Thanksgiving dinner. Thanks, Kayak. Great spot! Ignore the over-sensitive whiners and complainers.

  • We definitely meant no disrespect and have the utmost respect and gratitude for our veterans and the sacrifices they've made for us. Many of us have family members who fought in WWII and other wars, and truly understand the gratitude we owe them.

The intention of the ad is meant to convey that the character is poking fun at himself, certainly not at veterans. We've received a great deal of positive feedback, but we are truly sorry to those whom we've offended :(

  • I am currently serving in the military and find nothing disrespectful about this commercial. It is a hoot! The advertisement is not suggesting that the guy is a veteran. The viewer initially thinks that it is about WWII, but then suddenly realizes that the beaches are those of Cancun - the shots are shots of tequila - and the bombshells are women. I laughed my butt of and then sent the link to all of my military buddies. Well done KAYAK!

  • KAYAK, this is an amazing commercial. I wouldn't worry to much about people who find this offensive. If they're not smart enough to see the humor in the puns and the masterful delivery by this amazing actor, they are probably in financial dire straits and can't afford to travel anyway. So it won't be effecting you business. Keep em coming!!! More spots with this actor too!!!

  • if it was some liberal group getting offended because they wanted to be offended i bet you would support them

  • thats soo disrespectful, people died, good men, for our freedom! and now your making a joke out of it.

if you are willing to laugh at our soldiers lifes like this, i sugest you go to the frontlines and see if its jokeing stuff.

  • Extremely disrespectful.

  • facepalm ;_;

  • I just saw this commerical for the first time on T.V. and laughed my but off. I rewound it 4 times on the DVR and was still laughing.

  • LOVE IT! GO Kayak, GO!

  • I love it; SUPERBOWL worthy!!

  • It's getting kind of dusty in here... NOT!

  • kind of amazing

  • haha. luv it
