When i ear this I think himself at the end of his life, and all the joy he gave to us all with his music. It's sad, but take us to see that life is worthy !
The guitarist is Ulf Wakenius, a Swede. This music piece is the most moving Oscar has ever done. The bass solo is also very good. Oscar is as fabulous, as always.
someone could say me what does he say when he speak before playing the song ? mi english is not good and i can read but is a bit complicated to listen .
@melinken "Thank you. Thank you very much. During the last years, jazz has taken some very heavy blows with the passing of some very wonderful players and people in the jazz world. First and foremost, sentimentally, I mention a man who was very close not only to jazz but certainly to my career, Mr. Norman Granz passed away. Then there was Ray Brown. And a whole bevy of loses. John Lewis of the Modern Jazz Quartet. When I heard of the news of John I happened to be on vacation at the time..."
Ulf has got three "Oscar licks" that he drops in almost ever solo he ever plays... I wish he would take it easy on those and show us more of his ideas
Life experience teaches us that music is communication and here Oscar is simply showing his respect, love and sadness for his friend who passedon. Would that we could all be lucky enough to have such a gentle genuine giant for a friend. It's not always about complexity and chops ,that's just some talent and a bunch of practice. It's about depth of feeling.Look at Horowitz in Moscow playing Traumerai. If this piece makes you cry then you get it. If not keep looking. Thank you Oscar,Goodnight.
This performance illustartes the essence of true musicians. This is a sad and moving composition for a genius-John Lewis. Seeing Niels and Oscar together makes me cry.
What a pretty piece. It's especially poignant to see NHØP playing bass behind Oscar--probably one of his last performances before his own sudden, untimely death the following year at the age of 58. Really sad.
Beautiful

@melinken "...and I wrote just a little melody for the sadness that I felt. This is simply titled "Requiem"."

This makes me feel sad. I loved it when Oscar played with Niels and Ray. His expression at the end nearly made me cry...
