the music is great. Only own the first DVD, as it's a bitch to find. Does it get better as it goes (anyone)? I like it so far, but I don't see why so many people love it to death. It's cool but why is this a masterpeice? I assume it gets much better later on right? So far it;s a nice relaxing cute series that I would love to finish, but not a masterpeice.

Well, I think it really depends on your tastes. If you like anime with lots of action and adventure then you're going to be disappointed by this one. This anime is really about emotions, questions of identity/belonging, sense of salvation, and existential things. Insofar that is explores these themes I think it is fantastic and very original. As you watch more you'll see that the story becomes deeper. I like it so much because I have never seen such ideas rendered in such a beautiful way.

Well I do like a good action and adventure series, but I didn't buy this looking for that ;). I heard it was very deep, original, and interesting. So far it's a cute slice of life fantasy, but I'm not sure i see the themes you and others say it has, but I assume that's because it's still early in the show? BTW I love stuff like "Kino's Journey", "A Wind Named Amnesia" , "Serial Experiments Lain", "Petite Princess Yucie", "Paranoia Agent" and the like. Those aren't actiony shows.

Ok so I bought the entire series awhile ago (found it in Coconuts! go me), and I agree with you guys 100%. This was really an amazing show! Very deep, very emotional and powerful and it had a lot of good moments. And Oh God the ending. That made the entire series worthwhile!! Why didn't anyone tell me this had a linchpin ending! What a perfect conclusion to a great show.

I always wanted to watch this series. If you love this show you should watch Serial Experiments Lain. It's sci-fi but it has a good story. Although it is very confusing so have to pay attention or watch it over (it's about 12-13 episodes).

There are people I desperately want to see this series -- my parents, to name two -- who I think would love it, but who will never watch it because it is fantasy, or because it is animated, or because it is in Japanese.

They miss beautiful characters, beautiful music, and a beautiful and truly profound story, one of my favorites in any medium.

Truly it is said, this is not a good introduction to anime, because it will spoil you for the rest. Nothing else even comes close.

It's an excellent dub -- not, say. Disney quality, but fine nevertheless.

My recommendation is to watch it English first time through, so you can get the story unimpeded by squinting at subtitles.

But a second viewing is mandatory with this one. So much that is passed over in the first viewing glows and thrums with meaning the second time.

So, read the subtitles on the second pass. The translation is slightly different, and the Japanese voice acting is in general better than the English.

I hate that stigma. That way of thinking bother sme to death!. I had a conversation with someone who thought that, and he could not admit he's wrong. He said "cartoons are for kids, and can't be taken seriously" and "I won't like it because it's made for Japanese people not Americans". His logic is clearly flawed...sigh...

Because they are creatures called 'Haibane' or charcoal feathers. The world almost seems like some kind of limbo place.  Normal humans and Haibane live there.

This show is follows the life of mysterious individuals known as "Haibane", and their journey to find more about themselves and who they are, and where they will go, through the eyes of a girl named Rakka; a newborn Haibane, and those around her.

I highly recommend this title, because it was one of the most honest and faithful adaptations from a source in 2002.

I really love this anime, despite being it short it really touched my heart and I ended up watching the entire series in 3 days. It had such and sweet, beauiful storyline that made me feel warm inside. I really miss it and only wish there was more to watch.
